Classroom Managment
Schooling should teach children how to identify and regulate their emotions so that
they are prepared to become fully autonomous. Teachers can create foundations for a
peaceful classroom but must be ready to help students process their feelings when
emotions are high. Punishment does not help students process their emotions. Without an
opportunity to reflect on their internal conflicts students will never have the skills to come
to their own emotional resolutions.
Students must be given clear expectations to understand classroom procedures. If
expectations are not consistent students will be confused and frustrated. Below I have
listed some of what I hope to establish as consistent expectations for myself and students.
Teacher foundations for success
● Materials are distributed as needed ● Supplement activities for early
and put out of reach when not finishers
● Classroom seats are ● Project examples are visible
● Teachable moments are respected
pre-determined
● Communicate with homeroom
● Individual station seating available teachers
● Lesson agenda and “I Can” ● ELL students must be given visuals,
statements are posted insight patience, and access to students
● Labeled tables and materials who can translate if possible
● A reward structure is in place
