Online Activity Describe
what the learning activity will be as
the students meet with the teacher

In this online activity, the students meet with the teacher
synchronous. The students will learn about the Judicial Branch
and how the Supreme Court decides cases. Before starting this
activity, the students will already have some knowledge about
the Supreme Court based on their assigned readings for
homework and 8th grade civics class. The online class will begin
by using the software Nearpod where students can engage with
one other through interactive activities during lecture. Before
the lecture begins, the students will submit a Google Form
about how a Supreme Court case trial occurs. The lecture will
then talk about the Supreme Court and their cases. Afterwards,
the students will be able to begin their online simulation. Like a
role-playing game, the students will assist a Supreme Court
Justice in ruling a case. The students get to listen in the case, the
different discussions between the Justices and make an
informed choice on whose side they support. It is very important
for the students to pay attention because there will be points in
the simulation. When the students are done with their
simulation, they will get a certificate. The students will have to
save the certificate and turn it in on the assignment tab on
Google Classroom and provide a minimum of five sentences on
what they learned as a Supreme Court Justice.
