According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men
experience violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime (National Center for Injury
Prevention and Control, Division of Violence Prevention). Experts have articulated concerns that
that the number of cases of domestic violence may increase during this period of social
distancing and quarentine.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office takes cases of domestic violence very seriously,
especially during these incredibly difficult times. The office continues to work closely with
County officials, social service organizations, and local law enforcement, making additional
resources available to assist our most vulnerable populations during this time.
“Although situations surrounding domestic violence have certain commonalities, the details and
needs of the victims vary, especially during these unprecedented times,” stated Acting-
Prosecuting Attorney Jean Cloud.
She continued, “Our office is committed to remaining fluid in our ability to respond to cases of
domestic violence. The assistant prosecutors and victim advocates handling these cases are
dedicated to seeing that justice is done as we continue to navigate these cases during this
unprecedented time.”
