General information
The WI80 Instrument presents you with relevant wind
information on a combined analog and digital display.
Adjustable backlight for night operation is provided
as well as adjustable intensity on the LED displays for
operation in sunshine.
Instrument layout
The WI80 display includes bargraph, dial with pointer
and LED display. Modes of operation and units for
measure are indicated by monitor diodes.
The instrument is
operated by 2 keys.
These are used to switch
between display modes,
to set parameter values
and to adjust background
illumination.

Panel mounting
The mounting surface must be flat and even to within
0.5 mm.
Installation | 7
Cable connection and interface
Signal input, network and power supply are wired to the
enclosed terminal block that is to be plugged in on the
rear side.
The instrument is delivered with a 0.3 m SimNet cable
with a standard SimNet plug in both ends. One plug
1 must be cut off and the wires connected to terminals 3
through 6 according to the color codes shown below.

Offset adjustment
Any residual error in the apparent wind angle can be
adjusted manually by entering an offset angle.
A positive value (no sign) indicates starboard offset
angle, while an offset angle to port is indicated with
negative value (negative sign).
The illustration below illustrates the required key presses
to offset the angle to 12.1°.
Range: +/-99 Default: 0.0

Bargraph
The bargraph operates as a releative wind gust indicator.
The direction of the wind gust is displayed as shown in
the table below.

Backlighting
The backlighting is adjusted by pressing the Light key
SELECT
when the instrument is in normal operation.
Current light setting will be indicated with the right LED
digit.
The light setting affects the diodes, the digital display
and the backlight as shown in the table:
Error Alarm
In the event the error indicator is lit, the
instrument is not operable and service/repair is
required.
16 | Operation
Maintenance
The IS80 instruments are “repair by replacement” units,
and the operator is therefore required to perform only a
very limited amount of preventive maintenance.
If the unit requires any form of cleaning, use fresh
water and a mild soap solution (not a detergent). It
is important to avoid using chemical cleaners and
hydrocarbons such as diesel, petrol etc.
If a weather cover is available this should be put on
when the unit is not in use.Operation flow chart

Display damping
The damping factor indicates how fast the display will
respond to changes in wind readings. The setting affects
both the LCD and the pointer.
The higher the damping factor the more stable display
reading on the instrument.
Range: 0 - 3 Default: 0
The illustration below shows how to change the Damping
