DIY Sight Reading Project

After many weeks of Ms. Tomlinson finding and creating sight reading examples
for you all, it is now your turn! You will use an online notation software called Flat
to create your own four measure sight reading for your voice part. The measures
need to be in 4/4 time and be in the Key of D. The chord progression for your sight
reading must be I-IV-V-I. (We’ll learn about these soon, don’t stress!) Over the
next couple of weeks, we will do some lessons to prepare you to compose your
sight reading and learn about how chords are built using our trusty solfege
syllables. Below I have provided you with a D major scale and its solfege and our
project schedule. Flip to the back of the page to see how I will be assessing your
sight reading examples. Now let’s get working!

Project Schedule
● Day One - Introduction and Create Flat Account
● Day Two - Video Lessons about Chords
● Day Three - Chord Review and Practice
● Day Four - Chords and Melodies Game
● Day Five - Flat Exploration Day
● Day Six to Eight - In Class Work Days - Get Composing!
