Does this Course Change Your Perspective in ELT ?

Primarily, we know that Intercultural Understanding capability focuses on helping

students to develop their knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes that enable them to
appreciate and respect others different communities and cultures. So it can be said that having
intercultural understanding as their mindset implies that they having appropriate attitudes needed
to respect others, open minded and flexible to various forms of social and cultural diversity. We
can`t avoid that humans is facing multiple culture not only in social environment, but also in
education. Here, As a future English teacher I realize that this knowledge is very important to be
applied. But I think everyone should have it as their support system now or later . In Indonesia,
we know that this country has various of culture. It make sense that every school especially
university or college have different students` background. After I learned this subject, I become
knowing lot of terms that happen in our life related to this subject.
In ELT, this subject seems new and different for me. Generally, in ELT I often taught by
the lecturer how to speak and listen properly, write and read effectively about English. As a
future English Teacher, I got a knowledge that can makes me better in understanding my
students soon. Before I got this lesson, I fluently thinking that when I entered this major is about
speak English in a good way. Never thinking of me to studying about Intercultural
Understanding which is very important for me as future teacher. Understanding the students
background can help us to reach in students` characteristic. Beside it, this subject also provides
social culture in other country which is very new from me and it seems interesting for me.
Intercultural Understanding can be our support system not only in social but also in education.
To sum up, I`ll say this subject does change my perspective in ELT. As a future teacher
we should not only have a capability to mastering the English but we also have to make
ourselves understand about the background of our students. All of these are important to be
considered in order to make the process of learning effective and communicative.
