Review

The subject of this review will be Quentin Tarantino’s ninth feature “Once upon a
time in Hollywood”.

Set in the 1960s Hollywood, this movie tells the story of two entertainment industry
workers - actor Rick Dalton (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stunt double Cliff
Booth (played by Brad Pitt). Their story is intertwined with a tragic historical death of
the young uprising actress Sharon Tate, at that time a pregnant wife of the famous
film director Roman Polanski…or is it? Also, it portrays the life of Charles Manson’s
cultists at the Spahn Ranch responsible for Tate's murder in the summer of 1969,
which shocked American society, as well as the entire international community.

The movie emphasizes the director's love and admiration for mid twentieth century
American movie industry and culture. Accordingly, it does not lack colorful pop
culture references, witty dialogue and popular quotations, all so very much "a
Tarantino thing".

Furthermore, one of the most recognizable features in pretty much every Tarantino
movie is handpicked soundtrack that follows the storyline perfectly, which certainly
does not disappoint this time either.

As a big fan of Tarantino’s work I cannot be completely objective, but I would still
recommend seeing this movie because it is amusing, intelligent, well shot, has great
music and is somewhat serious and somewhat funny. All in all, perfect for broad
audiences with various range of interests.
