Instrument Lesson Plan

Title: Here are some wood sounds Grade Level: 1st Grade

Materials needed:

-Wood Instruments
- Skin Instruments or Drums
-Shakers
-Scraper instruments
-Metal instruments

Procedure:

A.S “What kinds of instruments can you name?”

1. Introduce the different categories of instruments (wood, metal, scraper,


shaker, skins)
a. Explain that all these are percussion instruments
2. Provide each student with their own instrument for each category
3. Ask students who has what instrument in order to assure their understanding
about the different instruments.
4. Explain to students that they will sing a song and use their instruments
a. The song will call out the type of instrument sounds, and when the
student hears their instrument, they must play on the steady beat
b. Students should sing the song when they are playing and when they
are not playing
5. At the end, when it calls for percussion sounds, everyone should play but on
the steady beat
6. Allow students to put their instrument back a few groups at a time

Closure: “What are the different types of percussion instruments we used today?”
