COMPANY PROFILE

Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) was established in the year 2006. It is a wholly owned

subsidiary of Mapúa University that aims to produce graduates who are at par with their foreign

counterparts. It was on the 18th of June 2007 that marked MCL’s first academic year.

Located in Cabuyao, Laguna which is near science and industrial parks, Malayan

Colleges Laguna proves to be an ideal educational institution fit for honing its students’ skills

and knowledge through on-the-job trainings, and apprenticeships. With its state of the art

facilities, and IT integrated curricula, MCL is envisioned to be a global steeple of excellence in

professional education and research.

FACILITIES DESCRIPTION

The Gymnasium, and the oval of Malayan Colleges Laguna was engineered to cater to its

students’ athletic, and amusement needs. Surrounded by nature, the oval is where soccer,

Frisbee, and track competitions are held. The newly-constructed gymnasium of Malayan

Colleges Laguna is situated in front of the machine shops.

The gymnasium was engineered to provide better ventilation for Malayans. The higher

ceiling, and the big ass fan was utilized for better air circulation. The big ass fan scatters the air

around the facility in order to cool down the temperature in the area. It was done to improve the

facility for its students’ use.

The oval is where athletic competitions, and programs are held. Its track was designed to

provide friction to prevent its runners from slipping, and other related accidents. The oval is
where students usually play soccer, frisbee, baseball and track. In its location stands a long steel

rod which will attract lightning in order to prevent getting struck by lightning.

INTRODUCTION

Malayan Colleges Laguna is an educational institution that exists to accommodate its

students along with the working body of the school. This would bring about an estimate of 3,000

individuals inside the vicinity. With this amount, the safety of each individual is of utmost

priority in order to prevent accidents. The focus of the report lies on the gymnasium and the oval

of Malayan Colleges Laguna.

Objectives

encounter.
POLICY OVERVIEW

INSPECTION AND AUDIT FINDINGS / ISSUES

Oval

Upon the inspection, there are some parts of the facility that are uneven. The special

flooring on most part of the track are peeling off. It was also found that the markings on the

track are not visible. There is also the lack of proper insulation and connection on the

grounding system of the post. There is no proper segregation of combustible materials which

pose as a fire hazard.

Gymnasium

Upon the inspection, the ramp surface slope is uneven. The drainage cover is also

insufficient. The construction equipment is an obstruction to the pathway entry to the

gymnasium.
RECOMMENDATIONS

Following the observations in the facilities, below are the recommendations:

For the oval, it is recommended that the flooring of the track be replaced by a new one. The

combustible materials stacked on the end of the oval must be segregated and disposed of. This is

to prevent the start of a fire accident. The proper insulation on the wires of the post must be

installed. The exposed wires of the post must be properly insulated and connected on the

grounding system of the post. It is also recommended to have safety yellow tape around the

construction site of the grandstand.

For the gymnasium, it is recommended that the ramp be reconstructed. Since, this could

pose as a slipping hazard. The drainage is recommended to be covered since this could pose as a

slipping hazard.
