Presenting about Watercone

Situation: We are working for an organization called Safe Water Now. Our
organization wants to spends $1 million for a new devide that will help provide clean
water for people. We had a discussion and decided to chose Watercone and now, we will
give a presentation to the directors about this.

My presentation is divided into 3 parts: overview, design and function of

watercone.

1. Overview

To UNICEF: "every day 5000 children die as a result of diarrhea coused by

drinking unsafe water" . So we think our responsibility is help children to have a
healthier life. And after discussing, we decide to use Watercone to provide clean water
for people with low price.

The WATERCONE is a solar powered water desalinator that generates fresh

water from salty or brackish water. It is easy to use, lightweight and mobile. The
technology is simple in design and use and is described by simple pictograms. With up
to 1.5 liters in 24 hours the Watercone® is an ideal device to create a child's daily need
of freshwater.
The Watercone was invented in Germany by a man by the name of Stephan
Augstin. The story about how watercone was born is very exciting.
When Stephan Augustin went on a vacation to the Canary Islands several years
ago, little did he know that he would return home to his native Germany, with a ready
concept to change life as it was - often during millennia - for innumerous humans around
the world.
During that vacation and sitting by a beach cafe, he had playfully experimented
with a glass of water and a saucer all the while gazing at the Atlantic, so rich in water
and yet so lethal for human consumption. While inversing the empty glass on the saucer
he realized a build-up of condensation. The Watercone began to take shape in his mind.
Upon his return to Munich, the BMW industrial designer by day began burning
midnight oil, to devise an industrial solution to his brainchild. More than a year later,
following countless drawings, calculations and the lecture of several dozen books -
addressing everything from patents to thermo-dynamics - the first Watercone was
manufactured in Germany.
 In 2008, Stephan partnered with MAGE WATER MANAGEMENT GMBH and
granted the company the rights to produce and distribute the Watercone under license
and worldwide.
The Watercone retails for about $69. With the price of a bottle of water being $.50
the Watercone would pay for itself in about 5 months.

2. Design

This Invention represents a conical, self-supporting and stackable unit. It has 2

main parts, an inward circular collecting trough at the base and the cone covering
outside made from glass or plastic. Besides, It has a distilled water outlet to pour water
to bottle.

The Watercone is a long lasting UV resistant Poly Carbonate product and can be
used up to 5 years daily. The material is non-toxic, non-flammable and 100% recyclable.
The black pan for the saltwater is already made out of 100% recycled PC

The watercone system can be referred to as a one step water condensation process.
The salty or brackish Water evaporates by way of solar irradiation and the condensation
from that Water appears in the form of droplets on the inner wall of the cone. These
droplets trickle down the inner wall into a circular trough at the inner base of the cone.
By unscrewing the cap at the tip of the cone and turning the cone upside down, one can
empty the potable Water gathered in the trough directly into a drinking device. 

Its design seem to be so simple, so how can we use its? Technically speaking, it
likes a solar still. Let’s watch a video about how we use watercone.

After video, I can show you 3 basic steps:

1. Pour salty or brackish water into pan. Then float the Watercone on top. The black pan
absorbs the sunlight and heats up the water to support evaporation.

2. The evaporated Water condensates in the form of droplets on the inner wall of the
cone. These droplets trickle down the inner wall into a circular trough at the inner base
of the cone.

3. By unscrewing the cap at the tip of the cone and turning the cone upside down, one
can empty the potable Water gathered in the trough directly into a drinking device.

The technology is simple in design and use. It is suitable for almost all people,
especially who live in poor place and don’t have academic knowledge. So I think we
should take it for our plan.
 3. Function

We choose this Watercone for its benefits.

First, we talk about the main reason why this device is usefull. Because of the
structure of Watercone, It’s easy to make dirty water become clean and purify salt out of
water. Therefore water which goes out of the device is safe for drinking.(1)
Besides, with the basic parts which are assembled together, this device just has
low cost. This’s the reason why it’s suit with everyone even who have pretty low
income(2). No many market in the world sell this product recently, but we can find it in
amazon. Moreover, it absolutely has low concept and low tech so it’s easy to use by
anyone(3).  There’re also a lot of countries which have islands or near the sea so the
communites in these countries can’t use the water for agriculture beacause it’s saltwater.
However, Water cone can be easy to tackle this problem.(4)
Anyway, the small device with primary architecture call “Water cone” can help
people enable to have clean water by basic process so it’s really a smart inovation.
Beside the main using, watercone is used for drying fruits and fish inside. When
drying fruit, crop, fish or meat in the sun, animals like flies, dogs or cats can either eat
them or contaminate them with dangerous bacteria. The transparent cone is the perfect
protection and shortens the drying process. Even when the WATERCONE® becomes
old and tarnished, it can still be used to collect rain water, as a roof panel or container for
other goods.
There’re a lot of countries which are lack of water because of polution so people
don’t have enough clean water to use. However we have much saltwater from the sea,
but it’s not drinkable. Therefore Water cone is the best approach to create clean water
for people’s demand.
Conclusion:

This device seems to be suitable and exciting than others. So I decide to approve
watercone for our plan. And you have 5 days to submit the detailed plan. The meeting is
