Senator Schiavoni Rings

Bell for Salvation Army
in Boardman
BOARDMAN— Senator Schiavoni spent a Monday in
December helping out the Salvation Army by ringing the
bell and manning the traditional “red kettle” in front of
Barnes and Noble bookstore at the Shops at Boardman
Park.

Senator Schiavoni, a strong supporter of the Salvation

Army, said that the frigid conditions and long hours
standing were well worth it for the cause. Senator Schiavoni rings the bell for The Salvation Army outside of Bar-

DENNISON— On December 12th Senator Schiavoni volun-

teered as a Storyteller on the legendary Dennison Depot
“Polar Express”. The Dennison Polar Express is a train ride
that takes passengers on a magical journey to the North Pole
and back (Dennison to Newcomerstown).

During the trip, Senator Schiavoni entertained children and

parents by reading to them the award winning story “Polar
Express” by Chris Van Alsburg. During the story elf helpers
served hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies made by
Mrs. Claus. Once the train arrived at the “North Pole” Santa
and his elves could be seen from the window greeting the
passengers joyously.

Also during the trip, passengers played Christmas games,

sang songs with elves, visited with Santa, and got their very December 17th-19th Polar Express at the Dennison Depot:

Downtown Youngstown
holds 2010 Holiday Parade
YOUNGSTOWN— On December 4th, Youngstown held
its annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony at
Central Square on East Federal Street. Despite the chilly
climate, many citizens of Youngstown attended the event.
Children of all ages were in attendance, enjoying Christmas
music and the parade.

“It was great to see all the kids enjoying themselves and
having a wonderful time during the parade,” said Schiavoni.
“Even though it was pretty cold, I had a great time and the
parade brought back many childhood memories.”

Featured in the parade were: Mayor Jay Williams, Youngs-

town Police and Fire Department, Mahoning County Sher-
iffs Department, Youngstown State University President
Cynthia Anderson, members of the YSU football team and
cheerleaders, members of the media, local politicians and
officials, and many more.

ALLIANCE— Senator Schiavoni recently toured the Alli-
ance Community Food Pantry. The pantry is designed to
help families and citizens in a time of need. It provides food
for people who are struggling and in need of a helping hand.

“The Alliance Food Pantry is a great way to assist commu-

nity members and I was extremely impressed with the estab-
lishment after I was given the tour,” Schiavoni said.

After touring the Pantry, the Senator was a guest speaker at

an annual Alliance Kiwanis and Rotary Club meeting. At-
tendees took part in a luncheon that was held in the Hoover-
Price Campus Center, at the University of Mount Union.
Following the luncheon, Senator Schiavoni spoke at the
