What are the scientific principles behind

everyday actions?
(Connection)

Today we will do an experiment that clearly explains how science and scientific
principles are connected to our actions in daily basis.
We will explain Newton's 1st Law of motion or commonly known as “Law of Inertia”. But what is
inertia? “Inertia means: objects in rest will stay in rest. Objects in motion, will stay
in motion, unless they are acted by an external unbalanced force”.
Let's observe these examples in everyday situations:

The car will continue with the The blocks of jenga will keep The swings will remain still
same speed unless a force static unless a force makes them unless a force (push/pull)
makes it stop. move. makes them move.

Let’s test this law with an experiment. To do that let’s follow the scientific method!

Newton’s Eggs Drop Experiment

STEP DESCRIPTION
Observe/ Asking a Why the egg fall in the water
question

Hypothesis Since whoever pulls the plate at any speed the egg is not very resistant to
being moved under an object quickly.

Experiment First I pulled the plate fast and the egg fell into the water, then I pulled it
slowly and the egg fell on the table.

Analiz Data When you pull the plate fast the egg falls into the water and if it is slow it
does not fall into the water.
Report/ Share It depends on the speed you pull the plate the egg will fall into the water.
conclusion

Materials glass, water, toilet paper tube, plate, egg

Here you have some more examples about Newton’s 1st Law of motion. Choose one of them to try
out or you can also look for others on your own.

Title: “The gravitational cube ”

STEP DESCRIPTION
Observe/ Asking a Because when you pull the paper on top of the objects, the objects stay in
question the same place?

Hypothesis Since you pull it very fast, the objects stay in the same place.

Experiment You put a piece of paper on the table a piece of paper that is on the edge
of the table and you put some objects on it and you pull the paper and the
objects stay in the same place

Analiz Data On the first try pull the paper a little slow and the objects fell to the ground,
on the second try I did the opposite pull the paper too fast and it worked.

Report/ Share Is depends on the speed you do it, you have to do it fast for it to work.
conclusion

Materials A table,a paper and any small objects.
