1. EXPLANATION OF ON JOB TRAINING VESSEL

1. Oil/Chemical Tanker Carrying the chemical liquid like It built in 2000 (20 years ago)

with variety of density. From The capacity is 1996 T DWT and
the crude oil with heaviest 12458 GT. With maximum
density to diesel oil. My vessel draught on the river 5.5 m and
sails around Indonesia waters for the open sea due to safety
with tramping line. My vessel measurement is 7 m. She
sails on the river as well. operates all the cargo
operations with hydraulic
power driven. With 14 cargo
tank, 2 Slop Tanks and 12 Water
ballast tanks. She have 149,30
m LOA, 23.95 m breadth.

Description:

1. Master : The ship’s highest responsible officer, acting on behalf of the ship’s owner.
2. Chief Officer : The head of deck department on a merchant vessel, second-in-command after
master.
3. 2nd Officer : A qualified officer of watch stander, directing bridge team and navigating the
ship.
4. 3rd Officer : A qualified officer of watch-stander, junior to second officer:
5. Bosun : The highest ranking unlincensed (rating) in the deck department.
6. Able Seaman : Works under bosun, completing task under supervision of bosun.
7. Ordinary seaman : The lowest ranking personnel in the deck department.
8. Chief engineer : The official title of someone qualified to oversee the engine department.
9. 2nd engineer : The officer responsible for supervising the daily maintenance and operation of
the engine department.
10. 3rd engineer : Second assistant engineer, the third most senior marine engineer on board.
11. Oiler : Unlincensed member of the engine department, carry out the engine room
watch duty.
12. Fitter : Ratings on engine department under chief engineer supervisor.
13. Chief cook : Senior unlincensed crew member working in the steward’s department of a
ship.
14. Messman : Unlincensed vessel crew that work under chief cook’ supervision and working
on steward department.

3. RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CREW ON BOARD

a. Chief Officer : On my vessel the responsibility of chief officer are daily deck work and cargo operation.
All of deck equipment including safety equipment is under chief officer supervision. On cargo operation
chief officer responsible to measure the quantity of cargo, maintenance all of cargo equipment,
calculate ship stability due to safety measurement. Chief officer have to carry out bridge navigational
watch on 4-8 watch hours.

b. Chief Engineer : Chief engineer is responsible and oversee all engine and machinery on engine
department. He must maintain all PMS on engine department. He must understand all engine system
from main engine, auxiliary engine, boiler system. All engine crew are under his guidance and
supervision.

c. 2nd officer : 2nd officer is under chief officer guidance but usually he directly under master supervision.
Because the duty of 2ND officer are make a passage plan, conduct a good bridge team system and
medical officer as well. So he directly give the passage plan to the master. He also have a cargo watch
and navigational watch at 12-4 watch hour.

d.3rd officer : he is most junior officer on deck department. His responsible are safety equipment and
maintain the daily report of the vessel. He must do the monthly and daily inspection of all safety
equipment. Such as lifeboat, liferaft, pyrotechnic device.

e.Bosun : he is the highest ran on rating department or unlincensed seafarer. He is the chief of daily
work on vessel under chief officer supervision. He must know all deck equipment and cargo operation
system. he must have better good seamanship above deck ratings, such as roop slices, mooring
operations and anchor party.

f.Electrician officer : Actually not all vessel have electrician officer, from my experience just on
Indonesian waters vessels that have electrician officer. His responsibility are maintain all electrical
equipment on vessel, maintain all safety devices on vessel and maintain all current and viltage on
auxiliary engine.
