I. Warehouse 33X45m installation

I.1. Base Plate installation
First, we must make a reference level (level 0.00) and then we measure up from reference
level of 50mm to make sure that the base plate level is +0.05m from reference level. The reason
we take a gap of 50mm is easy to install mezzanine column and can edit level of base plate. Nuts
are inputted at the base plate level to bearing mezzanine column during installation.

I.2. Tapered column installation

Tapered columns are installed by using mobile crane after we have base plate level and
then we have to make sure that tapered column is perpendicular. After tapered column is
perpendicular, we need to input double nuts and a washer on the base plate via anchor bolt for
stability of tapered column. After we already installed tapered column, we need to cast grout
thickness of 50mm under the base plate.

I.3. Cable, pipe brace and girts on tapered column

After we already install tapered column, we need to install cable brace, flange brace and
pipe brace due to displacement of tapered column. Girts are installed after we already installed
tapered column and for stability of girts, we use sag rod to brace at the middle span of girts.

I.4. Tapered rafter

For tapered rafter, we devise to 3 pieces because the length of the tapered rafter is very
long. So, we need to connect these 3 pieces of the tapered rafter to whole rafter. Then using the
mobile crane to connect tapered rafter with tapered column (beam-column connection). After that
we use 2 mobile cranes for install connection between tapered rafter and tapered rafter.

I.5. Cable, flange brace and purlin installation

After we finish mezzanine installation, we need to install cable brace, flange bracing and
purlin because it can aid stability of mezzanine rafter. For purlin we use sag rod diameter of
12mm to brace it at the middle span.

I.6. Zinc installation

Zinc that has thickness 0.4mm was installed on the wall and roof connect with girts and
purlins respectively by screws.

I.7. Roof-monitor installation

Roof-monitor was installed on the middle roof for reduction the heat in the warehouse.
For installing the roof-monitor, we need to install main structure (column and beam) of it first
and then we install the secondary structure (purlin, sag rod, zinc).

II. BATI warehouse 40x48m design

For this ware warehouse, we design via code AISC 360-10 and we use ROBOT
STRUCTURAL ANALAYSIS software for design it.

II.2. Load
• Live load: LL=0.3 kN (ASCE 5-10)
• Dead load: DL=0.1 kN
• Self-weight (calculated by software)
• Wind load (calculated by software, wind speed=42 m/s)
For wind load we generate in Robot Structural Analysis as following:
1. Click on Load icon
2. Select wind loads simulation
3. Select Generate wind loads
4. Tick on wind direction x+, x-, y+ and y-
5. Input wind speed 42 m/s
6. Input terrain level 0 m
7. Click Start

II.3. Deflection

 Deflection limit = L/120=0.2 m > Deflection maximum = 0.15 m

Thus, Deflection is OK!
II.4. Drift

 Drift limit = H/60 =0.11 m > Drift maximum = 0.039

Thus, Drift is OK!

II.5. Member design

First, we define the Member Type of each element as following:
1. Click: Member Type
2. Click: New steel member type
3. Define: Member type, kz, ky, Lateral buckling length and lateral buckling (Cb)
4. Save

II.5.1. Rafter I (800-500-800)x214x6x8

Rafters are designed as following:
1. Select all rafters and input in Member verification
2. Calculate as ULS (Ultimate Limit State)
3. Click on Calculation bottom
4. Check Ratio: if Ratio < 1, The rafter is OK!
Ratio > 1, The rafter is not OK!

II.5.2. Tapered column I(300-800)x214x6x8

Do the same way to rafter and we get result below:

Thus, the mezzanine column I(300-800)x214x6x8 is OK!

INTERNSHIP REPORT Date:10/10/2019

II.5.3. Middle Column (I 500x214x6x10)

For Middle column, we need to assign live load only one side because the structure is
critic when the live load has only one side.

By using the same way to the rafter and we get result below:

Thus, the column (I 500x214x6x10) is OK!

II.5.4. Column and Rafter I300x214x5x6

By using the same way to the rafter and we get result below:

Thus, column and rafter I300x214x5x6 is OK!

II.5.5. Purlin and Girt Z200x75x1.5
By using the same way to the rafter and using sag rod to brace the purlin and girt at the
middle span then we get result below:

Thus, purlin and girt Z200x75x1.5 is OK!

INTERNSHIP REPORT Date:10/10/2019

II.6. Connection design

For design connection, we design in IDEA STATICA software by export data from
ROBOT ANALAYSIS as following:
1. Select node and members
2. Click: Add-Ins
3. Click: RobotConnectionToIdeaOpenModelWPF
4. Start design connection in IDEA STATICA

III. Conclusion
When I finish year 4th at ITC I just learn about theory but during internship at ISSteel
company for 2 months I have learned a lot of new experiences such as:
 Design steel with software
 Properties of steel
 Connect theory with practice
 Bill of quantity (BOQ)
 Technology of field
Therefore, this internship is very extreme important for all civil engineer students for practice
all theories that they learned at school and especially the internship will teach you how to be a
success engineer and have a good communication with other in the company.
