PREFECT OF DISCIPLINE
SY 2019-2020

OVERVIEW

The office of the Prefect of Discipline aims to promote DISCIPLINE in accordance with the Academy
of St. Joseph core values. (Integrity, Social Responsibility, Excellence, Evangelization)

Furthermore, the Prefect of Discipline provides guidance for the integral development of student`s
moral values, habits, ethics and ideals to become a responsible and better person in the future.

The Prefect of Discipline also strives to take part in creating an environment that is conducive to
learning by implementing rules and regulations aligned with the Student Discipline Handbook and
reflecting Academy of St. Joseph Core Values.

The Prefect of Discipline takes the forefront in resolving student disputes, including investigating
complaints and provide resolutions to all student discipline related infractions, moreover, the Prefect of
Discipline also conducts hearing on student cases in accordance with the Academy of St. Joseph`s
Student Handbook.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PREFECT OF DISCIPLINE


1. To ensure that school rules are adhered to by the students.
2. To be involved in solving indiscipline issues that can be solved with the assistance of advisers.
3. Keep vigilance on students when they are in and out of the school.
4. To make sure the students of the Academy of St. Joseph uphold all the values as prescribed by
the Students Handbook
5. To maintain an atmosphere of friendly cooperation, peace, discipline and unity of the School.

DAILY PRACTICES
1. Issuance of admission slip to the students who are late, absent, and incomplete uniform.
2. Check class attendance every after last period in the afternoon to be recorded in the Disciplinary
Record.
3. Collects anecdotal record to the students with indiscipline issues and to be passed to the class
advisers for compilation.
4. Sends letter to the parent of a student with indiscipline case and report to the guidance
counselor for counseling.

DISCIPLINARY CONCERNS
- Disciplinary concerns shall include tardiness, absenteeism, cutting classes, quarreling,
disrespect and using gadgets. This concerns shall be settled first between the concern
student, class adviser, and the Prefect of Discipline (POD) as stipulated in the School
Handbook.
 Step 1. The student will write an anecdotal record to be kept by the class adviser for future
basis. The adviser will give warning to the student regarding the offense.
 Step 2. If the student commit the same offense twice, his/her case shall be raised to the Grade
level POD. The POD shall call the parent of the student for a discussion. The POD will explain the
offense committed by their child and the prescribed disciplinary action.
 Step 3. In the discussion, the presence of the Adviser and the Guidance in Charge is requested,
nevertheless, the GIC shall not intervene. Upon settlement, the POD shall give warning to the
student to the possible sanction to such offense.
 Step 4. If the student committed the same offense, provisions of the Handbook shall transpire.
The Class Adviser shall inform and turn over to the POD the anecdotal records of the student.
The POD shall prepare the Agreement with the corresponding sanction and the Anecdotal
Records of the student.
 Step 5. The POD will turn over the documents to the School Guidance in Charge. The GIC will
then call the attention of the student.
- The GIC shall take over the counselling process and explain the graveness of the committed
offense and the contents of the Agreement shall be discussed.
 Step 6. The student shall serve his/her sanction.
 Step 7. After serving the sanction, the student shall report to the GIC for post counseling.
 Step 8. The GIC shall make a daily monitoring of the concerned student.

CONCERNS ON ABSENCES AND TARDINESS


 Tardiness is a common concern among the students of the school. Statistically, an average of 30
students come late every day. As observed most of the late comers come from the Centro
Barangays.
 GUIDELINES IN ADDRESSING TARDINESS
 A student will be considered late when he/she enters the school premises,
- Five minutes after the signal bell (in reading the daily Gospel) has been rang.
- Beyond 1.10 in the afternoon.

FOR MORNING CLASSES


 THERE WILL BE TWO Central Board of Students Officer who will be assigned at the gate to hold students
during the flag ceremonies. The guards on duty and one of the Prefects of Discipline shall assist
CBS Officers in doing this task. CBS officers will have their own record of tardy students for
references.
 After the flag ceremony, the CBS Officers will submit the names of the late comers to the Grade Level
POD. The POD shall give warning to the students and may give disciplinary action on his/her
prerogative.
 After completing the tasks given as punishment, the student may return to his/her classroom provided,

- He/she is permitted to do so.


- Accomplishes an Anecdotal letter to be submitted to his/her class adviser duly noted by the
POD. The POD shall leave a note for the adviser.
- Secures Admission slip from the POD.
- The Adviser shall give warning and talk to the tardy student
- If the same student commits the same offense for three times (consecutive or successive),
provisions of the Student Handbook shall transpire.

FOR AFTERNOON CLASSES


 Once the teacher enters the class, those who enter after him/her shall be considered late. If 10
minutes had passed, and the subject teacher is not yet in, students shall be asked to look for the
Senior and Junior High School Coordinator.
 Late students shall be asked to write an anecdotal record to be submitted to the subject
teacher. The subject teacher shall turn over the anecdotal to the class adviser for necessary
action.

GUIDELINES IN ADDRESSING ABSENTEEISM


 A student shall be considered absent if and only If,
- Gets late for an hour.
- Committed a three consecutive or successive tardiness (eq. to 1 day absent)
- As a student commits absence in his/her class, the POD shall call the class adviser
regarding the case.
 The class adviser will let the student to submit an anecdotal record for his/her (adviser)
keep.
 For students who will be given the disciplinary actions shall report to the GIC after
completing his/her sanction.
 The POD shall be the one to determine the sanction to be given to the students.
