Week Three - Research

RESEARCH

What did you learn from your From my research this week I learnt my target audience finds
research? the beach as a much more luxurious and attractive setting
than somewhere like a city of a rich looking house. So I have
come to the conclusion that when my protagonist transforms
into his newer, more wealthy body I will have the setting in a
hotel with a beach window as the target audience would
understand that it is luxury as they voted beaches to be the
most luxury places out of the ones I survey them with. That
was my main issues when coming up for locations in my short
film, so now I just need to decide the best park or pitch to film
my football scene. Having interesting and realistic locations
are key to an interesting production so I am trying to take time
and evaluate all my options about this.

How has the research into existing Researching professionals helped me take some of their
artists and professionals helped you techniques that their productions so special and how I can
improve your ideas? implement them into mine. Having these already popular
techniques will improve my production as these are used by
professionals which therefore should make my production one
of a better standard as I have taken a range of techniques
from my professionals in writing my production from George
Lucas to having specific shots like having no establishing at
until after you have seen the location from James Wan.

How has the research into your Understanding my target audience would lead to me
target audience helped you improve understanding more what they want to see in my production-
your ideas? as if I tailor the production to their needs they are likely to be
more engaged and enjoy the production more. Some things I
can see that they want from the various survey results I have
got from them includes having a beach as the luxurious
location, having my actors show authentic emotions as
possible to make the production more engaging, and also
upload it to YouTube as this is a platform they clearly feel
familiar and comfortable with. I can tell the information I have
got from these surveys is effective as most of the people that
took part in the survey were in my target audience, when I
asked them for their age range.

How has the research into your To research my platform I sent out a survey to my target
platform helped you improve your audience to ask what platform the felt most comfortable with.
ideas? The overwhelming majority voting for YouTube rather than
having it on physical media like a DVD or even on social
media. I think this is because YouTube is so common with this
generation and is so simple to use and find videos that it is a
no brainer to upload my short to YouTube. I looked up about
the YouTube guidelines and my idea goes with it as it as
nothing such a drugs, gore and nudity ect.

What work do you need to complete I am mainly on track, but one thing I need to get done is
outside of lessons to stay on track? deciding on locations I can have my production set, other than
the beach. To do this I will go to both parks that I live close to
and see which is quietist and best looking for a football
training pitch. I have been good with deadlines and well
prepared.

High Grade Tips

Research
● ‘Thorough research’ - include plenty of sources and detailed analysis of this information
● ‘relevant & coherent’ – make sure your research sources are not just the same as the
Media product you hope to make - and talk about how they inform your planning
● ‘sustained’ – continue your research throughout the eleven-week project and don’t just limit
it to the first two weeks
● ‘accomplished & considered’ – all of the above referred to in your daily/weekly reflections
