Introduction to the case

The case about the company KUDREMUKH IRON ORE COMPANY LIMITED which was
in the operations of mining activity in the area of virgin forest. The managing director of the
company was Hari prasad. By the year 1976 this company became largest mining and
palletisation complex in Asia.
The company was given the grant to work on its mining business till the end of the year 2005
but the application of the KUDREMUKH IRON ORE COMPANY LIMITED for increasing
its lease for more 20 years was rejected by the supreme court of India due to the certain
charges on the company such as ducking of the forest area, creating roads in national park,
forest area cleaning, also there was certain accusation that the company violated the pollution
norms and the nearby rivers were affected due to that.
This all opposition was done against the KUDREMUKH IRON ORE COMPANY LIMITED
was done by the groups of wildlife conservation and the organisation of environmental
protection and letters were written by this organisation to the central and state government.
But also there were positive sides of this company in the whole mining sector they were the
largest in the export oriented unit and RS 600 crore was earned by foreign exchange per year.
So the prohibition of this company can also affect the economy of the country at some extent
and according to them they have also led various efforts on the protection and upgradation of
the ecology, stoppage of pollution and many more activities
But all the efforts laid by the KUDREMUKH IRON ORE COMPANY LIMITED were in
vain and there was nearly no scope to run the company after the year 2005.
