DLBD Method to determine Material Requirement for Nominal
Concrete Mix
The DLBD (Dry Loose Bulk Densities) method is an accurate method to calculate
cement, sand and
aggregate for a given nominal mix concrete. For calculation, we consider a nominal
concrete mix
proportion of 1:1.5:3 (M20).
Since we know the ratio of cement to sand (1:1.5) and cement to aggregate (1:3)
Volume of Sand required with respect to cement would be = (0.035 x 1.5) = 0.0525
cum
So, for M20 (1:1.5:3) Nominal Mix Concrete with regards 01 bag of cement –
Cement – 01 bag or 50 kg
Water – 20 kg
Sand – 84 kg
Aggregate – 152 kg
So, the weight of concrete produced with 1 bag of cement (50 kg) = (50+20+84+152)
kg = 306 kg.

So, 1 bag cement and other ingredients can produce = (306/2400) = 0.1275 cum of
concrete 1:1.5:3
