Hassan Muhamed Younis Al-said (BCNSP, BCCCS, BCPS, MSc.

, CPHQ)
The highest performance and highest quality pharmacist at Heart Hospital-HMC 2018

A wise father, leader, teacher, and friend. A package of great outstanding, exemplary,
inspiring and visionary educator; that is my father AL-Sheikh Mohamed Younis. He Sharpened
and fostered my skills and groomed me to sound professional and has made me life-long learner,
work with full independence and infused me with expertise. I will always be grateful to him for
his support and guidance to the right path. I can’t find the way to return the favor rather than
adapting his style of education and mix it with my finger prints. That what has motivated me to
be a life-long learner and educator. That is why I am trying to improve my skills and took me to
know I am aware that a well-defined teaching philosophy provides stability, continuity and
crucial factor to my sanity and morale. A clear vision about my philosophy of teaching “to know
what I need to teach, how and why” is the best way to be a successful educator.

Teaching and learning should be student-centered. Learning is experience and it becomes

more productive and effective when the learner is engaged, encouraged and motivated about
learning process. I always give my student positive feedback encouraging them to keep good
work coming, show them how important the role of pharmacists in multidisciplinary team. I
believe that learner should be equipped with passion toward humanity, up-to-date knowledge,
sharp skills of applying knowledge and attitude to excel in professional life. I show my student
how caring I’m and I always give them exercises to see how caring they are in order to achieve
optimal patient outcomes.

Additionally, I agree with the fact that the best way to learn is to educate. I infuse the
effective teaching principles, strategies and pillars of scholarly teaching by asking students to do
presentations to other health care providers, discuss the care plan with the team, run case-based,
topics and reflect on their performances. I want my student to appreciate my passion for teaching
of cardiology and nutrition support with distinctive way.

My objective is to introduce an enjoyable session to students but highly informative and

valuable to their time. I am committed to provide a high-quality teaching experience. To achieve
that, I provide teaching methods and quizzes that I have learned from American Board of
Pharmacy in Pharmacotherapy, Critical Care and Nutrition Support. I also, incorporate
knowledge and skills I acquired from the books that I read on how to deal with students and
provide effective feedbacks. Moreover, I have used the forms that are provided by Pharmacy
faculty and my organization.

My methodology entails discussion with students to help them in driving the significant
information using problem-based learning technique (approximately two real life cases per
session with optimum 45 minutes). Usually I am keen to introduce lecturing creativity not
supported by any type of stress. So, I start my session with storytelling to engage them with me
from the first minute. Assessment is an essential component to make sure that the students have
achieved their educational goals. One of the key assessment tools is measuring student’s
independence and confidence to practice independently under my supervision. I always make
sure that student has enough knowledge and skills to make him/her competent.

Effective education requires collaborative efforts from both teachers and students.
Effective teachers usually admit that no matter how good a lesson is, their teaching strategies can
be improved. Self-reflection is important because it’s a process that makes us collect, record, and
analyze what happen in the lesson, so we can improve our teaching strategies when necessary.
Formative approaches provide the opportunity for students and faculty members to create
feedback. I usually ask students to provide their feedback on their educational journey which
include preceptor evaluation.

On regular basis, I provide students with constructive feedback, so they can work on the
areas of improvement and empower them to learn and demonstrate competencies. but as a human
being, I know that certain students may struggle early on, to deal with that, sometimes I provide
extra time upon student feedback or take it to public place like cafeteria. Also, I ensure that the
student feel comfortable to approach me in order to get healthy learning environment. I am very
diligent about responding to e-mails quickly and giving them immediate, specific, obstructive
and constructive feedback. Always, I empower my students to make regular and constant effort
through giving them daily assignments and on the last 5 minutes of each session, I repeat why we
need to cover this material and how it connects with our overall plan.

All told, my genuine passion for teaching leads to more opportunities to teach more. Also, I am
not “good enough”, am seeking usually for opportunities to learn, teach, inspire others and
potentiate my skills to contribute to others.
