Standard Two

Standard Two : Key Competency 2B
The competency that I decided to choose is listed under
standard two, 2B. “ Collaborate as partners with families in
young children’s development and learning through respectful,
reciprocal relationships and engagement.
Even though I wasn’t directly involved in
building relationships with my students
parents, i’ve witnessed my mentor
build relationships with parents during
my time being a student teacher. She
consistently communicated with the
parents to make sure that their needs
were fulfilled, but more importantly for
the students needs. One time, my
mentor reached out to the students
parents by letter asking to give her
suggestions on materials that they
would like to see in the classroom, the
parents of course responded and my
mentor decided to add these items to
How does this apply to Key Competency 2B?
By my mentor collabing with the parents and reaching out to them, this shows
that she is truly invested in the child’s development. She may have figured out
other ways to enhance her students development but she gathered much
more information than she intended simply by communicating with her
students parents. By adding these materials to her classroom, her students
were more engaged, and they also got the chance to gain a better experience
in exploration.
