PROJECT
PROPOSAL
PIVO: Non-invasive blood draw device

Sara Hassan: President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Ari Lenahan:

Justin Le: Vice President

Lauren Ramos: Chief Operations Officer

Steven Soto: Chief Administrative and Informative Officer

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Steve Soto: For centuries, our medical technology has advanced to the peak; but as the saying
goes “There’s always a bigger mountain.” Our medical technology may be at its best but we can
always improve.
Blood draws give us access to so much information on the human body. With a blood draw we
can diagnose most diseases, and malfunctions within the body, and blood type as few examples.
The way we tap into human blood is through a process called blood draw, where a medical
professional will use a needle and stick it through your vein to withdraw some blood.
But with a needle there can be many mishaps with the blood draw process. Some of the mishaps
can be: accidental needlesticks, harming the patient, harming the recovery time of a patient,
disease spread, and etc.
PIVO is here to change that, with our needless technology, we can ensure that the patient has
safe and comfortable time with the blood draw process. Our technology is able to completely
eliminate accidental needle sticks and disease spread. As well as ensure that the patient also has
their recovering time without any interference. PIVO’s main objective is to ensure that the
patient and hospital are able to create a nice and comfortable trusting bond with each other.
Please allow up to 30 business days upon request submission for any project to be thoroughly
completed. Current estimated expenses are to be $150,000 for all production and manufacturing
costs and well training and employment salaries. Proposer will submit to our sponsor a weekly
progress report during the duration of the project. Communications will be done via email, or
first class priority mail. Sponsor is given the right to request a conference whether it done via call
or on site within the first 24 hours.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Steve Soto: Our reason for making PIVO was for a better trusting bond between patient and
hospital. Another reason for making PIVO was to help lower the chances of work-related injuries
such as accidental needle sticks and bruising of the patient for troubles of trying to find a vein.
PIVO assists in causing less pain in blood draws than using a needle. Many patients reported that
they felt more comfortable and that they felt like trust grew between them and the hospital.

OBJECTIVE
Sara Hassan: Throughout medical history, blood draws have been a major component in
diagnosing certain diseases and conditions however they’ve been known to be wasteful, painful,
and risky. Our objective at the Umbrella Organization is to advance hospitals, clinics, and blood
drives all over the nation in order to improve patient care and employers' experience. We plan to
take the process of blood draws to another level by decreasing patient anxiety, discomfort, and
pain. Furthermore, through our product we believe we can help nurses and phlebotomists by
decreasing the stress and time that comes with traditional blood draws. PIVO is a single use,
needle free device that collects fresh venous samples by temporarily attaching to a peripheral IV
catheter. With the PIV line as a conduit to the vein, a small tube is inserted into the vessel to
collect a sample of blood. The advantage of this tube is that it is designed to reach vessels that
possess the optimal blood flow for aspiration to avoid unnecessary injuries and hard sticks. After
the blood is collected from the patient, the device is retracted and discarded. With our device
nurses and phlebotomists can utilize the pre-existing IV catheter to draw blood painlessly and
quickly, and allows for several samples to be taken in case of errors with the first. Our company
strongly believes through our collaboration Carter BloodCare can benefit greatly from our
product due to the proven improvement in patient satisfaction, nurse experience, and decrease in
time.We firmly believe that PIVO will be able to revolutionize the way we work with blood.

TECHNICAL APPROACH
Ari Lenahan: The production of medical equipment is understandably regulated very
heavily. To make a patent that is approved and allowed to enter a hospital setting, it must meet
strict requirements and have little to no risk in use compared to other options. PIVO has gone
through four prototype stages of development, beginning with the general concept of drawing
blood in a minimally invasive way until eventually settling on the IV-based design. From there,

3
Umbrella Org moved into resolving specific issues with each prototype. A vacuum-based design
was crafted to move the blood quickly and without damage to the patient’s arm. Using this
process enables identification of specific design elements that were hindering progress and
preventing optimal results with the product. The end result is made up of a thin flexible flow tube
that enters the blood vessel to collect a sample, with a slider to control the placement of the tube.
This ensures efficiency when collecting. After collection, all but the containment tube is
discarded. Multi-use options may be available one day, but certain portions will likely remain
single use for the foreseeable future due to issues with decontamination. The net waste produced
compared to needles would be significantly lower regardless, due to the amount of needle draws
that are failed and redone.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Sara Hassan: The following Gantt chart demonstrates the breakdown of the steps taken to
reach the final product. During this project Sara Hassan was in charge of the scope, schedule,
status tracking, and performance analysis. Lauren Ramos was assigned to communications,
determining the execution, performance analysis and final report of the project. Furthermore, Ari
Lenahan was leading parts included risk and safety, determining execution, product analysis, and
profit check. Next, Justin Le was in charge of budget, forecasts, cost tracking, and final project
analysis, Lastly, Steve Soto was responsible for establishing objectives, determining quantity,
cost tracking, and final report.

4
BUDGET
Justin Le: Below is a table of the estimated production costs required for this project.

5
DELIVERABLES
Justin Le: Our proposal to our sponsor the American Association of Medical Society Executives
is to provide a disposable needless blood draw. This blood draw is easily accessible with its size
and attaches to the intravenous line. With the attachment of the IV inside, we can attach the
blood draw to extract the blood without creating another puncture. This allows the patient to be
able to have an experience of a blood draw without the excruciating pain. Our data also shows
the patient’s experience with a rating of a pain tolerance of 0.7 out of 10. Blood draw is also one
of the most common and frequent procedures in hospitals. The needleless blood draw is used as
an innovation to optimize efficiency in phlebotomy.

COMMUNICATION AND
COORDINATION WITH
SPONSOR
Lauren Ramos: To ensure adequate and efficient communication, The Umbrella Organization
will submit a weekly progress report to our said sponsor that will contain planning, testing,
research, data, and the various transitions of PIVO. The Umbrella Organization will submit our
weekly progress reports via email in the format of PDF. or at the request of the sponsor. The
Umbrella Organization will also present bi-monthly showcases for our said sponsor to show
them PIVO in action.

Upon the reception of the weekly progress report, the said sponsor has the opportunity to
schedule conference calls or in-person visits with The Umbrella Organization, with appropriate
notice of at least twenty-four hours. Once the sponsor schedules the conference call or in-person
visit, The Umbrella Organization must oblige to attend with the basis to answer questions that
the sponsor has that pertain to PIVO to create clarification and security for our said sponsor.

In terms of all communication, to guarantee full transparency between the said sponsor and the
Umbrella Organization, the sponsor upon receipt should reply at the earliest opportunity
possible. In the interest of the sponsor and The Umbrella Organization, both parties should
maintain open and timely communication throughout the duration of the proposed project to
preserve PIVO.

6
SPECIAL TOPICS:
Lauren Ramos: To protect the handling of confidential information and materials, the sponsor
and The Umbrella Organization will not transfer sensitive materials through unsafe presences
such as electronically. An agent of the Umbrella Organization or the sponsor will make it a
priority to hand-deliver the PIVO products. Due to the PIVO being a material that we consider
sensitive, information about PIVO or the product itself should not be distributed to other parties,
unless the consent and acknowledgment of both parties are obtained since both the materials and
information belong to both parties. Lastly, there will be no loans or returning equipment.
