CRAIG DEAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

APPLICATION

Kitsap Peninsula Soccer Referee Association (KPSRA) has created an educational scholarship program for
individuals who have participated as a Soccer Referee for KPSRA.

The Craig Dean Memorial Scholarship Program is a tribute to an individual who contributed to Kitsap Soccer for
30 years. Craig is considered, “… the best-known Soccer Official in Kitsap County history.” He started refereeing
in 1981 and became a high-ranking referee in the state, officiating College and Professional matches and the
KPSRA President from 1987 through 2006. He continued to support Soccer refereeing presiding over matches
and mentorship. This scholarship has been established to recognize Craig Dean’s contribution to Kitsap County
soccer community.

Scholarship Objectives: The objective is to commemorate Craig Dean’s contribution to Kitsap soccer
refereeing and recognize the efforts of our youth in Kitsap County.

Scholarship Funds: Two scholarships will be awarded in amounts up to $1000. Scholarship funds can be used
to pay for educational programs and/or vocational training. Recipients can use the money to learn new skills,
upgrade current skill sets, or pursue and complete a college degree.

Who can apply? All College/Technical School Students or High School Graduating Seniors who meet the
minimum eligibility requirements above.

Application Due Date: The application is due the first business day of March of each year.

Selection Criteria: The KPSRA Board of Directors will review completed applications and pick the scholarship
recipients. Once the recipients are determined by the board, the award of the scholarship will be coordinated
with the College/Technical School or High School of the recipient.

Eligibility: Exemplary individuals that supported Kitsap Peninsula soccer in the role of a match referee:
1) Must be a Referee in Good Standing with KPSRA and WASRC.
2) Must have participated in a minimum of 10 matches (at least 5 as Center Referee) during the eight
months prior to completing this application.
3) Must have 1 Match Assessment from current KPSRA Board Members/Assessors. A list of Board

Members/Assessors is available on request from secretary@kspra.com.
4) Must have 1 letter of recommendation.
5) Must submit a written or typed essay (500 words maximum) “What life skills have you gained
through refereeing soccer?”

Applicant shall attach a copy of a letter of acceptance, or copies of unofficial transcripts as proof of enrollment with this application. If awarded,
scholarship check will be made payable to the applicant’s future or current institution.

NOTE: Applications must be post marked no later than the first business day of March of the school year.
Applications will not be accepted any sooner than January in the year in which the application for scholarship is
awarded.
