April 28, 2020

To Our Dear Nationalian Students,

It is day 45 of the ECQ and we hope that you remain healthy and in high spirits!

It has been more than a week since we resumed the 3rd term with home-based study which we formally call
Remote Asynchronous Learning (RAL). Faculty and students in more than 2300 classes have been busy
sharing course packs and discussing lessons via chat groups. Slowly but effectively you and your teachers
have been adjusting and gaining proficiency in our new learning system.

We are very thankful to you, our students and teachers, for the commitment to learning and for your
innovativeness to adapt to adversity.

Last Thursday, April 23, 2020, the government announced another extension of the ECQ. It is becoming
clearer that with the continuous increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, that the possibility of the
resumption of face-to-face classes this term, has become slim.

It is in this regard that we would like to inform you of our decision to continue-on with the term purely on
Remote Asynchronous Learning (RAL) until May 30, 2020. After which, student will be given until June 13,
2020 to complete (and submit) all course requirements. With this, we are confident that the learning
objectives of your subjects will be achieved. Do expect to receive additional academic guidelines to help
you in the process of completing the term.

The University will also be granting a 25% discount on Miscellaneous fees to you. This discount will be
deducted from the remaining payables or will be credited to the next term fees of each student.

The decision to complete the term in RAL, is the best option during these extraordinarily challenging times.
The option to discontinue the RAL and end the term, was not considered because it will put to waste all the
efforts that each of you have already invested in the courses you are taking. Mass promotion on the other
hand, will not only compromise the course objectives but will also cause disruption in the content of the
courses you will be taking in the following term.

Adapting to this adversity is a learning experience on its own. We know that there are challenges. But the
teaching-learning process must continue because it will help us focus, remain productive and meet our
educational objectives even from the confines of our homes.

Aside from your professors, you may also reach out to the SAO, the ITRO and the Guidance office to help
you cope with any difficulties you may experience.

This is the time for cooperation and mutual support. Let us help each other make it work.

Sincerely,

Renato Carlos H. Ermita, Jr. PhD
