Project Proposal for Anti-COVID-19 Pandemic

Project Title: Production of Antiseptic Liquid Hand Soap to counter COVID-19 Pandemic

Project Description:

Hand washing is one of the counter for any spread of diseases may it be viral, bacterial or
microbial. At this state of pandemic, frequent hand-washing with soap and water is recommended by
the World Health Organization (WHO) and by the Department of Health (DOH) to observe and practice
proper hygiene. Thus, a project of liquid hand soap production has come to mind to promote frequent
hand washing. The LHS shall be distributed to hospitals, government agencies, and other essentials front
liners of the Anti-COVID-19 pandemic.

Project Objective:

1. Liquid Hand Soap small scale production

2. Liquid Hand Soap product will be distributed to Hospital, Government agencies, and other
essentials/Anti-COVID-19 front liners.

Production Process:

A. EDTA Preparation

For the preparation of EDTA, pour around 3 kg of Distilled water into the preparation tank 1,
then pour 0.78 kilograms of EDTA into the container and dilute the mixture by adding the remaining 3 kg
of distilled water. The mixture is mixed using a wooden ladle until the EDTA is totally dissolved.

B. Citric Acid Preparation

For the preparation of Citric Acid, pour 3 kg of Distilled water into the preparation tank 2, then
pour 0.3 kilograms of Citric Acid into the container and stir the mixture using a wooden ladle. Mix the
solution continuously until the citric acid is dissolved completely.

C. Sodium Benzoate Preparation

For the preparation of PPG, pour 3.0 kg of Distilled water into the preparation tank 3, then pour
0.3 kilograms of Sodium Benzoate into the container and stir the mixture using a wooden ladle. Mix the
solution continuously until the reagent is dissolved completely.

D. Agitation Process

In this process, all of the reagent will be mixed by an electrical generated mixer. The 30.8
kilograms water will be poured into the main tank, followed by introducing 10.8 kg of SLES to the main
tank, this mixture will be stirred until the SLES is completely dissolved by the distilled water. After the
SLES has been dissolved, gently pour 3.0 kg of CDEA into the mixture then continue to stir for about 15-
30 minutes or until it becomes homogenous.

Next, introduce the prepared EDTA from the preparation tank 1 in to the mixture, gradual
mixing is applied, after that, introduce the second reagent citric acid to the main tank, and followed by
the third prepared regent which is sodium benzoate.
Add the 1.2 kg of Polypropylene glycol (PPG) gradually and continue to mix until the mixture becomes
homogenous. Slowly pour the 0.42 kg of Sodium chloride to the mixing tank, and continue mixing the
mixture for 15-30 minutes or until the mixture becomes homogeneous.

Lastly, introduce the 0.3 kg of Benzethonium chloride, 0.06 kg of natural colorant (Yellow
Lemon), and 0.18 kg of natural fragrance (Lemon Scent) one at a time, then continue mixing for 15-30
minutes until homogeneous mixture and desired quality of the product achieved. Sample will be analyse
for the pH and density of the product.
E. Analysis and Packaging
For product analysis, sample will be analyse for the pH and density of the product, the pH must
be in the range of 6.0 – 8.0, and the density of 1.000 – 1.050, but optimum density must achieved is at
1.036. Proper use of PPE are observed during the production to ensure the quality and safety of the
personnel. The LHS is bottled by a 250-ml liquid dispensing bottle, indicating the product name and its
corresponding label.
