Listening

Music Lesson Plan

Title: ​Miss Sally’s Goodbye Song Grade Level: ​2nd Grade

Materials needed:
1) Print out of song “Miss Sally's Goodbye Song”
2) Device to play song
3) Puppet of your choosing
4) Recordings of animal sounds

Procedure:​ Anticipatory Set, Instructional Input, Modeling, Checking for


Understanding, Practice, Closure

A.S: Has anyone ever been shy before? Is your voice low or high? Have
any of you been excited? What level is your voice at now? Low or high?

1. “This is called dynamics and today we’re going to use our listening
skills to recognize whether what we are hearing is either low or high.”
2. “Animals also make low and high sounds. We’re going to play two
short sound clips make sure to listen closely”
3. Play a sound clip and ask students if they can guess if it’s low or high.
4. Ex: Raise your right hand if you think it was low Raise your left
hand if it was high
5. Repeat with a second sound clip and question being asked.
6. “Today we will be singing a song about goodbyes.. Goodbye can be
said in many different ways
7. “We are going to play the song, and want you to listen to the highs
and lows” -Play Song
8. “Now we will sing the song together and we want you to do this with a
buddy or puppet. You can either use your hand or grab a fun sock to
use!”
9. “With the help of our puppet, let's sing the song” (First) T- Whisper
“Thank You” (Repeat) S- Loud “Thank You”
10. Practice Singing again (Make sure to use a low and then loud
voice)

Closure: What is the difference between shouting and whispering? Who


was the high and low one? What is a different way you learned to say
goodbye?
