Instructional Sequence: 

Engagement/Hook  Warm Up- students will complete the warm up to review the 
concepts of Ser vs. Estar that were covered in the last class 
period. This will consist of a few questions where students 
will have to decide between SER and ESTAR and conjugate 
the verb correctly.  

Exploration  Quizlet Vocab Set- students will create a Quizlet vocabulary 


set to begin to learn the new words pertaining to going to a 
restaurant and using ser and estar.  

Explanation  Vocabulary Slides- as a class we will go over the powerpoint 


with all the vocabulary words and repeat all the words so 
students get comfortable saying the words and recognizing 
what the word means in Spanish.  

Extension  Google Slides Vocab Practice- students will work through the 
two google slides vocabulary practice by themselves on their 
computers. If they didn’t bring their computers, then they 
can work with a neighbor. They have to click on the image 
that represents the word displayed on each screen. This will 
help them recognize what the words mean and hopefully 
encourage memorization and understanding.  
 
Papa caliente- Music will play and when it stops, whoever is 
holding the papa will have to say the Spanish word for the 
image that is on the screen. We will do several rounds of this 
to practice the vocabulary. Some of the images will be 
questions instead that might ask if using this vocabulary 
word would you use ser or estar? In order to help students 
understand how to identify when to use ser and estar based 
on the vocabulary. 
 
Fly swatter- students will split into two teams to compete to 
see who knows the vocabulary words. It is a way for students 
to practice the vocabulary in a fun, engaging way.  
 
OPQ Practice- Students will practice their OPQs in rotations 
so that they get used to saying all of their responses. Most 
students at this point should have all of their answers written 
out on their paper. Today students will be able to use their 
paper to work on their answers.  

Evaluation  Exit Ticket- the exit ticket will be based on the vocabulary 
practiced in this lesson. It will indicate where students are at 
with acquiring the vocabulary in this unit.  
 
Differentiation: 

● There are different activities that involve movement, talking, and reading. The 
activities play to different learning styles.  
 
Extensions: 

● There are two vocabulary slides for those that work faster and would like to 
move on to the second one.  
● Students who finish the quizlet set before others can quiz themselves using 
the flashcards or games option on the site.
