Designing a Customized Eye wear July 2, 2019
1. Introduction
The following describes the draft proposal for making a Customized Eyewear design. The design is to
fulfill the requirements set by the client as stated below. The first draft addresses the general
features of the design including the design steps and work hour.
After the project is finalized and the contract is made, the design details will be worked out and
checked with the client to assure all the requirements are included. The final design will be made
according to a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) as the final agreement.

2. Requirements
a. The system uses the following technologies
i. Bone Conduction Technology,
ii. Bluetooth 5.0
iii. Geolocation
iv. Biometrics
v. Wireless Induction Charging
b. The Eyewear Frame should include the hardware
i. Blue Light Lenses
ii. Anti-Slide Nose Pad
iii. Spring Loaded Hinges
c. The size of the frame and location of the components should be according to the given sample.
d. The final design includes the followings
i. The choice of cost-effective, yet durable electronic components for the design
ii. Robustness of the final design
iii. Implementation of safety measures

The frame has to use lenses that reflect or reduce blue-violet light from the lense. (similar to Zeiss
DuraVision BlueProtect UV lenses that reflects the blue-violet light coming from a digital screen)
f. Anti-Slide nose pads
For luxury considerations the best nose pads should be placed on the frame. Also for the prototype, an
anti-slide temple should be used. (for the inner temple a comfortable, washable rubber on the inner side
should be used to prevent sliding down of the frame on the face.)
g. Spring-loaded Hinges
These hinges are superior to the standard eyewear hinges and should be included in the prototype.
h. Low Nose Bridge
This feature is commonly more needed by the Asian community making it difficult for them to find a
frame that can fit on their nose without sliding down their face.
4. Block diagram
Below displays the overall block diagram of the electronic design. All electronic features are
controlled by a micro controller. The choice of component is give in the next section.

5. Main Components
Below describes some of the main components that are going to be used in the design. The complete
schematic and BOM can be made once the project starts and an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) is
agreed on. The main components are the followings. It should be noted that during the development phase
any better solution would replace the followings and the followings are the initial choice of components.
a. Microcontroller
b. Bone Conduction Technology
c. Bluetooth 5.0
d. Geolocation
e. Biometrics
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a. MICROCONTROLLER: STM32L476
The STM32L476xx devices are the ultra-low-power microcontrollers based on the high-performance
Arm® Cortex®-M4 32-bit RISC core operating at a frequency of up to 80 MHz.

Due to its high technical performance, it would be the initial choice for the above product. For example,
i. The STM32L476xx devices embed several protection mechanisms for embedded Flash
memory and SRAM: readout protection, write protection, proprietary code readout
protection and Firewall.
ii. The STM32L476xx operates in the -40 to +85 °C (+105 °C junction), -40 to +105 °C (+125 °C
junction) and -40 to +125 °C (+130 °C junction) temperature ranges from a 1.71 to 3.6 V VDD
power supply when using internal LDO regulator and a 1.05 to 1.32V VDD12 power supply
when using external SMPS supply. A comprehensive set of power-saving modes allows the
design of low-power applications.

d. GEOLOCATION: GY-GPS6MV2
e. Biometrics
i. HEART: e-Health Sensor Shield V2.0 (We need only the sensors enabled on this shield, no need
of full shield)
The e-Health Sensor Shield V2.0 allows Arduino and Raspberry Pi users to perform biometric and
medical applications where body monitoring is needed by using 10 different sensors: pulse, oxygen
in blood (SPO2), airflow (breathing), body temperature, electrocardiogram (ECG), glucometer,
galvanic skin response (GSR - sweating), blood pressure (sphygmomanometer), patient position
(accelerometer) and muscle/electromyography sensor (EMG)
