S.W.O.T ANALYSIS

STRENGTH
Here at Solar Car Company we have a strong, hardworking, intelligent staff and the fact it is on
trend, people now a days want efficient cheap vehicles that are safe for the environment. Our
company is able to offer this through turning solar energy into a powerful automotive vehicles.

 No Emissions. Because solar-powered cars have electric motors, they burn no fuel and
produce no emissions. ...
 Preservation Of Natural Resources. ...
 No Fuel Costs. ...
 Driving Comfort.

WEAKNESS
Due to the fact our product needs a lot of sunlight, it makes it difficult to use its technology in
Northern or Southern areas. The solar panels are only meant for places with 8 or more sunny
months. This causes our company to lose some profits because of its inability to work in mainly
overcast areas. In months where there is little sun the solar panel will be less effective. This will
make it difficult to sell cars in these areas. The vehicle will also have to be left outside almost
always so it can charge which some people may not like.

JSPM’S BhivraBai Sawant Polytechnic, wagholi. ( Department of E&TC)

Solar Based Transportation 2020

 Cost. The initial cost of purchasing a solar system is fairly high. ...
 Weather Dependent. Although solar energy can still be collected during cloudy and rainy
days, the efficiency of the solar system drops. ...
 Solar Energy Storage Is Expensive. ...
 Uses a Lot of Space. ...
 Associated with Pollution.

OPPORTUNITIES
Our company could make deals with automotive companies so some cars would come stock with
the solar panels. We could work with the municipalities to make solar panels for emergency
vehicles as well. Due to this our company will be able to expand quickly.

 Growth opportunities and latent adjacency in Solar Vehicle Market

 EV Charging Connector Market.
 Hybrid Vehicle Market.
 Electric Vehicle Market.

THREATS
Other companies may make a better Eco friendly vehicle which could ruin SCC. Solar panels
are expensive, people may just buy electric cars. Another threat is climate change, because if a
place that is usually sunny starts to get a lot of rain it may no longer charge the car enough. Also
with the increase in gas prices people will want to switch over to free car fuel.

SUMMARY OF THE SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEURS

TESLA

Musk had long been interested in the possibilities

of electric cars, and in 2004 he became one of the
major funders of Tesla Motors (later renamed
Tesla), an electric car company founded by
entrepreneurs Martin Eberhard and Marc
Tarpenning. In 2006 Tesla introduced
ntroduced its first car,
the Roadster, which could travel 245 miles (394
km) on a single charge. Unlike most previous
electric vehicles, which Musk thought were stodgy
and uninteresting, it was a sports car that could go
from 0 to 60 miles (97 km) per hour in less than
four seconds.

In 2010 the company’s initial public offering

raised about $226 million. Two years later Tesla
introduced the Model S sedan, which was
acclaimed by automotive critics for its performance and design.

The company won further pra ise for its Model X luxury SUV, which went on the market in
praise
expensive vehicle, went into production in 2017.
2015. The Model 3, a less-expensive

Musk expressed reservations about Tesla being publicly traded, and in August 2018 he made a
series of tweets about taking the company private, noting that he had “secured funding.” The
following month the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Musk for securities
fraud, alleging that the tweets were “false and misleading.” Shortly thereafter Tesla’s board
rejectedd the SEC’s proposed settlement, reportedly because Musk had threatened to resign.
However, the news sent Tesla stock plummeting, and a harsher deal was ultimately accepted. Its
terms included Musk stepping down as chairman for three years, though he was allowed
a to
continue as CEO.

INRTODUCTION

Energy is one of the most vital needs for human survival on earth. We are dependent
on one form of energy or the other for fulfilling our needs. One such form of energy is
the energy from fossil fuels. We use energy from these sources for generating
electricity. Running automobiles etc. But the main disadvantages of these fossil fuels
are that they are not environmental friendly and they are exhaustible & Limited in
Nature.

To deal with these problems of fossil fuels, we need to look at the Non-Conventional
Sources of energy. With regard to this idea we have searched about Automobile that
runs on soar energy.

This project a lot depends on solar panel because it using influencing if the soar
vehicles can drive.

Knowledge about solar array also important because the array is made up of many
photo-voltaic solar cell that convert sun energy into electricity the cell types & the
dimensions of the array depends on the vehicle size and chassis.

So, our topic for research & development is Solar Automobiles/ Solar Transportation.
We are going to study about the emerging trends in electronics, which have been
implemented in real life and are in working conditions.

The challenges of this project are as follows:

1. To study design use photovoltaic source of power.

2. To study fabricates & assembly of Real-World model.
3. To study the principles of Solar Energy.
4. To study the working of solar panels.
5. To study the Process of conversion of sun power into electric power
and driving the automobiles.

LITERATURE SURVEY

Solar powered vehicles the first solar powered vehicles invented, was a tiny
15- inch vehicles created by William G. Cobb of General Motors. Called the
Sun mobile, Cobb showcased the first solar powered vehicle at the Chicago
Powerama convention on August 31, 1955. The solar powered vehicle was
made up 12 selenium photovoltaic cells and a small Pulley electric motor
turning a pulley which in turn rotated the rear wheel shaft. The first solar
powered vehicle in history was obviously too small to drive.

Now let's jump to 1962 when the first solar powered vehicle that a person
drive was demonstrated to the public. The International Rectifier Company
converted a vintage model 1912 Baker electric car to run on photovoltaic
energy in 1958, but they didn't show it until 4 years later. Around 10,640
individual solar cells were mounted to the rooftop of the Baker to help propel
it.

In 1977, Alabama University professor Ed Passereni built the Blue-bird solar

powered vehicle, which was a prototype full scale vehicle. The Bluebird was
supposed to move from power created by the photovoltaic cells only without
the use of a battery. The Bluebird was exhibited in the Koxville, TN 1982
orkd's Fair.

Between 1977 and 1980 (the exact dates are not known for sure), at Tokyo
Denki University , Professor Masaharu Fujita first created a solar bicycle, and
then a 4 wheel solar powered vehicle. The car was actually two solar bicycle
put together.

In 1979 Englishman, A lain Freeman invented a solar powered vehicle. His

road registered the same vehicle in 1980. The Freeman solar powered vehicle
was a 3-wheeler with a solar panel on the roof.

Solar Based Transportation 2019

At the engineering department at Tel Aviv University in Israel, Arye

Braunsteinand his colleagues created a solar powered vehicle in 1980 . The
solar powered vehicle had a solar panel on the hood and on the roof of the City
car comprised of 432 cells creating 400 watts of peak power.

The solar powered vehicle used 8 batteries of 6 volts each to store the
photovoltaic energy .The 1,320 pound solar electricity cars said by the
engineering department to have been able to reach up to 40 mph with a
maximum range of 50 miles.

In 1981 Hans Thoktrp and Larry Perkins built a solar powered race car. In
1982, the pair became the first to cross a continent in a solar powered vehicle,
from Perth to Sydney, Australia. Tholstrup is the creator of the World Soar
Challenge in Australia.

In 1984, Greg Johansson and Joel Davidson invented the Sun-runner solar race
car. The Surunner set the official Guinness world record in Bellflower,
California of 24.7 mph. In the Mojave Desert of California and final top speed
of 41 mph was officially recorded for a. "'Solely Solar Powered Vehicle"
(didn't use a battery). The 1986 Guinness book of world records published the
official records.

The GM Suraycer in 1987 completed a 1,866 mile trip with an average speed
of 42 mph. Since this time there have been many solar powered vehicles
invented at universities for competitions such as the Shell Eco Marathon .
There is also a commercially available solar powered Vehicle called the
Venturi Astro lab. Time will only tell how far the solar powered vehicle makes
it with today's & tomorrow's technology.

Solar powered vehicles combine technology typically used in the aerospace,

bicycle, alternative energy and auto-motive industries. The design of a solar
vehicle is severely limited by the amount of energy input into the car. Most
solar powered vehicle have been built for the purpose of solar train races.
Exceptions including solar powered cars and utility vehicles.

3 JSPM’S BhivraBai Sawant Polytechnic, wagholi. ( Department of E&TC)

Solar Based Transportation 2019

Solar trains are often fitted with gauges as seen in conventional cars. In order
to keep the car running smoothly, the driver must keep an eye on these gauges
to spot possible problems. Cars without gauges almost always feature wireless
telemetry, which allows the driver's team to monitor the car's energy
consumption, solar energy capture and other parameters and free the driver to
concentrate on driving. Solar trains depend on PV cells to convert sunlight into
electricity.

In fact, 51% of sunlight actually enters the Earth's atmosphere. Unlike solar
thermal energy which converts soar energy to heat for either house hold
purposes, industrial purposes or to be converted to electricity,, PV cells directly
convert sunlight into electricity . When sunlight (photos) strikes PV cells, they
excite electrons and allow them to flow, Creating an electrical current.

PV cells are made of semiconductor materials such as silicon and alloys of

indium, gallium and nitrogen. Silicon is the most common material used and
has an efficiency rate of 15-20%. Of late, several consulting companies, such
as Phoenix Snider Power, have started offering technical and financial services
to institutes and teams developing solar powered vehicles worldwide

During the 1990s, regulations require in approach to "zero emissions" from

vehicles increased interest in new battery technology. Battery systems that
offer higher energy density became the subject of joint research by federal and
auto industry scientists. Solar powered vehicles were first built by universities
and manufacturers.

The sun energy collector areas proved to be too large for consumer cars,
however that is changing. Development continues on solar cell design and car
power supply requirements such as heater or air-conditioning fans.

July 2007 marks the 24th anniversary since Joel Davidson and Greg Johansson
n set The First Guinness World Record for a 100% solar powered vehicle (no
batteries). In 1986, the vehicle was retired and taken apart, but the solar array is
still producing electricity for an off-grid home.

HISTORY OF PHOTOVOLTAIC CELL

Photo voltaic system converts sun light into electric ity. The tem "photo" is
astem from the Greek "photos," which means "light." "Volt" is named for
Alessandro Vota (1745-1827). A pioneer in the study of electricity. "Photo-
voltaic," then, could literally mean "light-electricity." Most commonly known
as "solar cells".

PV systems are already an important part of our lives. The simplest systems
power many of the small calculators and wrist watches we use every day. More
complicated systems provide electricity for pumping water, powering
communications equipment, and even lighting our homes and running our
appliances. In a surprising number of cases, PV power is the cheapest form of
electricity performing these tasks.

Photo voltaic cells converts lighter energy into electric ity into atomic level.
Although first disco vered in 1839, the process of producing electric current in
a solid material with the aid of sunlight wasn't truly understood for more than a
hundred years. Through the second half of the 20th century, the science has
been refined and the process has been more fully explained. As a result, the
cost of these devices has put the m into the mainstream of modem energy
producers. This was caused in part by advances in the technology. Where PV
conversion efficiencies have improved considerably.

French physicist Edmond Becquerel first described the photo voltaic (PV)
effect in 1839, but it remained a curiosity of science for the next three quarters
of a century. At only 19, Becquerel found that certain materials would produce
small amounts of electric current when exposed to light. The effect was first
studied in solids, such as selenium, by Heinrich Hertz in the 1870s. Soon
afterward, selenium PV cells were converting light to electricity at 1% to 2%
efficiency.

As a result, selenium was quickly adopted in the emerging field of photography

for use in light- measuring devices. Major steps toward commercializing PV
were taken in the 1940s and early 1950s, when the Czochralski process was
developed for producing highly pure crystalline silicon.

5 JSPM’S BhivraBai Sawant Polytechnic, wagholi. ( Department of E&TC)

Solar Based Transportation 2019

In 1954, scientists at Bell Laboratories depended on the Czochralski process to

develop the first crystalline silicon photo voltaic cell, which had an efficiency
of 4%. The term “photo-voIaic" comes from the Greek pis (phös) meaning
"light", and "voltaic", meaning electric, from the name of the Italian physicist
Volta, after whom a unit of electro- motive force, the volt, is named.

The term "photo-voltaie" has been in use in English since 1849.The

photovoltaic effect was first recognized in 1839 by French physicist A E.
Becquerel. However, it was not until 1883 that the first photovolta i.e cell was
built, by Charles Fritts, who coated the semiconductor seknium with an
extremely thin layer of gold to form the junctions. The de vice was only around
1% efficient.

In 1888 Russian physicist Aleksandr Stoktov buit

the first poto- electric cell (based on the outer Photoelectric effect discovered
by Heinrich Hertz earlier in 1887). Albert Einstein explained the photoelectric
effect in 1905 for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921.
Russell Ohl patented the modem junction semiconductor solar cell in 1946,
which was discovered while working on the series of advances that would lead
to the transistor.

The modern photo voltaic cell was developed in 1954 at Bell Laboratories. The
highly efficient solar cell was first developed by Daryl Chapin, Calvin
Southern Fuller and Gerald Pearson in 1954 using a diffused silicon p-n
junction. At first, cells were developed for toys and other minor use s, as the
cost of the electricity they produced was very high in relative terms, a cell that
produced 1 watt of electrical power in bright sunlight cost about $250,
comparing to $2 to $3 for a coal plant.

Solar cells were rescued from obscurity by the suggestion to add them to the
Vanguard I satellite. In the original plans, the satellite would be powered only
by battery, and last a short time while this ran down. By adding cells to the
outside of the fuse large, the mission time could be extended with no major
changes to the spacecraft or its power systems. There was some skepticism at
first, but in practice the cells proved to be a huge success, and solar cells were
quickly designed into many few satellites, notably Bell's Own Telstar.

6 JSPM’S BhivraBai Sawant Polytechnic, wagholi. ( Department of E&TC)

Solar Based Transportation 2019

Improvements were slow over the next two decades, and the only widespread
use was in space applications where their power-to-weight ratio was higher
than any competing technology. Howe ver. this success was also the reason for
slow progress; space users were willing to pay anything for the best
possibilities, there was no reason to invest in lower-cost solutions if this would
reduce efficiency.

Instead, the price of cells was determined largely by the semiconductor

industry; their move to integrated circuits in the 1960s led to the availability of
larger bolus at lower relative prices. As their price fell, the price of the
resulting cells did as well. However these effects were limited, and by 1971
cell costs were estimated to be $100 a watt.

SOLAR PANEL – WORKING & FUNCTION

 What is Solar Pane1?

Essentials solar panels are groups of silicon cells used to convert light energy
into electricity. Solar pane k are thin silicon cells that are grouped together into
a simple frame with some wire works. The pane s harness daylight and process
it for human use by absorbing electrons from the sun's rays. These electrons
help to extract energy from the silicon, which is unstable due to a chemical
combination of boron and phosphorus combined in each cell. When the silicon
he acts up from the sun, it reacts with the other chemical additives and
becomes unstable. Then the electros in the sun are absorbed by the silicon and
the unstable silicon elements are forced thro ugh the wires established in the
panel this becomes D.C.energy.

 Function of Solar Cells

Not only sun is the source of heat& light it is also source of electricity too!
Solar cells also called photovoltaic cells are used to convert sunlight to
electricity. Solar cells are used to provide electricity all kinds of equipment,
from calculators and watches to roadside emergency phones and recreational
vehicles. Solar cell is most commonly made from silica, the same material used
to make computer chips.

Silicon is one of the Earth s most common elements, and is a major component
of sand and many kinds of rocks. A solar cell is built like a sandwich, with two
layers of silicon separated by a thin layer of insulating material. All three layers
work together to convert sunlight into electricity.

When sunlight falls on to the solar cell, it produces a small electric charge.Like
a battery. the charge is positive one, one side of the cell, and negative on the
other. A wire connects the two sides of the cell, allowing electricity to flow.
This flow, or current, of electricity can be used to power a small light bulb, turn
ON electric motor, or recharge a battery.

8 JSPM’S BhivraBai Sawant Polytechnic, wagholi. ( Department of E&TC)

Solar Based Transportation 2019

Solar cells are often used in locations where there isn't any electricity and
where electricity is needed in small amounts. In such cases, solar cells are
usually connected to batteries, allowing electricity to be stored for use during
times when the sun isn't shining.

A single solar cell is able to produce only a small amount of electricity. But
solar cells can be connected together on a multi-cell panel to produce larger
amounts of electricity. As with batteries, the more cells that are connected to
one another, the greater the current of electricity that can be produced. Soar
panels can produce enough electricity to power satellites, recreational vehicles,
and equipment for other applications where electricity is used in large amounts.

TYPE OF SOLAR PANELS

Most of the solar panel options currently available in one of three types:

1. Mono-crystalline solar panel

2. Poly-crystalline solar panel
3. Thin-film sol solar panel

These solar panels vary in how they’re made, appearance, performance, costs,
and the installations each are best suited for. Depending on the type of
installation you’re considering, one option may be more suitable than the
others.

The major types of solar panels There are three major types of solar panels:
mono-crystalline, poly-crystalline, and thin-film. Each type has its own unique
advantages and disadvantages, and the solar panel type best suited for your
installation will depend on factors specific to your own property and desired
system characteristics.

CRYSTALLINE SILICON

Almost 90% of the World’s photovoltaic’s today are based on some variation
of silicon. In 2011, about 95% of all shipments by U.S. manufacturers to the
residential sector were crystalline silicon solar panels. The silicon used in PV
takes many forms.

The main difference is the purity of the silicon. The more perfectly aligned the
silicon molecules are, the better the solar cell will be at converting solar energy
(sunlight) into electricity (the photoelectric effect). Crystalline silicon forms
the basis of mono- and polycrystalline silicon solar cells

MONO-CRYSTALLINE
CRYSTALLINE SILICON SOLAR CELLS

Solar cells made of Mono

Mono-Crystalline silicon (mono-Si), Si), also called single-
single
crystalline silicon (single
(single-crystal-Si),
Si), are quite easily recognizable by an
external even coloring and uniform look, indicating high high-purity
purity silicon, as you
can see on the picture below:

Fig. Mono-Crystalline-Silicon panel

Solar Based Transportation 2019

POLY-CRYSTALLINE SOLAR PANEL

The first solar panels based on Poly-Crystalline silicon, which also is known as
polysilicon (p-Si) and multi-crystalline silicon (mc-Si), were introduced to the
market in 1981. Unlike Mono-Crystalline-based solar panels, polycrystalline
solar panels do not require the Czochralski process. Raw silicon is melted and
poured into a square mould, which is cooled and cut into perfectly square
wafers.

Fig. Poly-Crystalline-Silicon panel

STRING RIBBON SOLAR CELLS

String Ribbon solar panels are also made out of polycrystalline silicon. String
Ribbon is the name of a manufacturing technology that produces a form of
polycrystalline silicon. Temperature-resistant wires are pulled through molten
silicon, which results in very thin silicon ribbons. Solar panels made with this
technology looks similar to traditional polycrystalline solar panels.

Evergreen Solar was the main manufacturer of solar panels using the String
Ribbon technology. The company is now bankrupt, rendering the future for
String Ribbon solar panels unclear.

THIN-FILM SOLAR CELLS (TFSC)

Depositing one or several thin layers of photovoltaic material onto a substrate

is the basic gist of how thin-film solar cells are manufactured. They are also
known as thin-film photovoltaic cells (TFPV).

The different types of thin-film solar cells can be categorized by which

photovoltaic material is deposited onto the substrate:

1. Amorphous silicon (a-Si)

2. Cadmium telluride (CdTe)
3. Copper indium gallium selenide (CIS/CIGS)
4. Organic photovoltaic cells (OPC)

they capture and distribute solar energy or convert it into solar power.
Active solar techniques include the use of photovoltaic systems,
concentrated solar power and solar water heating to harness the energy.
Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the Sun,
selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light-dispersing properties,
and designing spaces that naturally circulate air.
The India large magnitude of solar energy available makes it a highly
appealing source of electricity.

So, basically India is the Country where enough sunlight is available.

Due to the availability of sunlight energy the generation of electricity can be
switch to renewable resources, so basically renewable resource based on
sunlight is solar energy,

So by setting up a solar plant which will Manufacture the Solar Panels&

Chassis, Automobiles i.e Solar Vehicles. We can turn the nation into an
emission free nation, by running the solar powered vehicles. As the sunlight if
free so no cost or charges are applied. By Switching the Transportation
method from Fossil fuel to renewable resources. A healthy environment can be
created an all of the Application can be easily done because a good quantity of
sunlight is available.

The solar plant requires an high initial Cost but once it is installed the Energy
can be used up to 5-10years, without fail.

SOLAR TRANSPORTATION

SOLAR TRANSPORTATION

A solar vehicle is an electric vehicle powered completely or significantly by

direct solar energy. Usually, photovoltaic (PV) cells contained in solar panels
convert the sun's energy directly into electric energy. This Energy is used to
Run the Automobiles i.e Car ,

The Power Dissipated from the sun rays are absorbed by the Panels and then
converted into electrical form of energy, this energy can be stored in Batteries
and then once charged it can drive the vehicle up to next discharge of battery.

The term "solar vehicle" usually implies that solar energy is used to power all
or part of a vehicle's propulsion. Solar power may be also used to provide
power for communications or controls or other auxiliary functions.

Solar vehicles are not sold as practical day-to-day transportation devices at

present, but are primarily demonstration vehicles and engineering exercises,
often sponsored by government agencies. However, indirectly solar charged
vehicles are widespread and solar boats are available commercially.

Now-a-days solar transportation is in Trend the Various applications have been

designed and published as well, like The electric bicycle , The E-Bus, The E-
Bike, The E-Rail, E-Rickshaws, The E-Bags which contains a battery which
can been used to charge mobile as well as run some other applications and
many more…………..

MODES OF TRANSPORTATION

 LAND -

a) SOLAR CARS

Solar cars depend on PV cells to convert sunlight into electricity to drive

electric motors. Unlike solar thermal energy which converts solar energy to
heat, PV cells directly convert sunlight into electricity.[1] For example, the
recently launched Hyundai Solar Car , which has solar panels mounted on the
rooftop of the car. The PV panels on the car would generate electricity to
charge the batteries in the car.The design of a solar car is severely limited by
the amount of energy input into the car. Solar cars are built for solar car races
and also for Commercial use.

b) SOLAR BUSES

Solar buses are propulsed by solar energy, all or part of which is collected from
stationary solar panel installations. The Tindo bus is a 100% solar bus that
operates as free public transport service in Adelaide City as an initiative of the
City Council. Bus services which use electric buses that are partially powered
by solar panels installed on the bus roof, intended to reduce energy
consumption and to prolong the life cycle of the rechargeable battery of the
electric bus.

c) SINGLE-TRACK VEHICLES

The first solar "cars" were actually tricycles or Quadracycles built with bicycle
technology. These were called solarmobiles at the first solar race, the Tour de
Sol in Switzerland in 1985. With 72 participants, half used solar power
exclusively while the other half used solar-human-powered hybrids. A few true
solar bicycles were built, either with a large solar roof, a small rear panel, or a
trailer with a solar panel. Later more practical solar bicycles were built with
foldable panels to be set up only during parking.

17 JSPM’S BhivraBai Sawant Polytechnic, wagholi. ( Department of E&TC)

Solar Based Transportation 2019

Even later the panels were left at home, feeding into the electric mains, and the
bicycles charged from the mains. Today highly developed electric bicycles are
available and these use so little power that it costs little to buy the equivalent
amount of solar electricity. The "solar" has evolved from actual hardware to an
indirect accounting system. The same system also works for electric
motorcycles, which were also first developed for the Tour de Sol.

d) E-Rail

Railways presents a low rolling resistance option that would be beneficial for
planned journeys and stops.

PV panels JPods PRT concept with photovoltaic panels above guide ways was
tested as APUs on Italian rolling stock under EU project. PVTRAIN .

Direct feed to a DC grids avoids losses through DC to AC conversion.DC grids

are only to be found in electric powered transport: railways, trams and
trolleybuses. Conversion of DC from PV panels to grid alternating current
(AC) was estimated to cause around 3% of the electricity being wasted.

PVTrain concluded that the most interest for PV in rail transport was on freight
cars where on board electrical power would allow new functionality:

1) GPS or other positioning devices, so as to improve its use in fleet

management and efficiency.
2) Electric locks, a video monitor and remote control system for cars with
sliding doors, so as to reduce the risk of robbery for valuable goods.
3) ABS brakes, which would raise the maximum velocity of freight cars to
160 km/h, improving productivity.

 WATER

a) Ships-Boats-Ferry-Yot. Etc.

Solar boats are electrical boats, with independent, quiet and clean engines, whose
batteries store free energy from the sun.

On the seas and inland waters as well as along their banks there are only a few
connections to public electricity mains. People who live on inland waterway crafts,
sailing boats, space stations and houseboats, are dependent on batteries, just as the
owners of electrically propelled boats. But batteries sometimes discharge and must be
replenished. One of the most elegant solutions for this is solar electricity. Solar
modules on a ship can charge the batteries on the spot - cleanly and efficiently with
free energy from the sun.

Solar electricity plants are reliable and durable. There are ever more areas of
application for solar electricity, due to lowering prices and improving technologies.
Right now we have Photovoltaic modules which are set in the roof of the ship.

 SPACE

In outer space there is an uninterrupted availability of huge amount of solar

energy in the form of light and heat. So the use of satellites primarily aimed at
collecting the solar energy and beam it back to the earth is being considered.

In geosynchronous orbit, i.e. 36,000 km (22,369 miles), a Solar Power Satellite

(SPS) would be able to face the sun over 99% of the time. No need for costly
storage devices for when the sun is not in view. Only a few days at spring and
fall equinox would the satellite be in shadow. Unused heat is radiated back into
the space. Power can be beamed to the location where it is needed, need not
have to invest in as large as a grid.

Electrical power accounts for much of the energy consumed. On the one hand,
the major loss of power occurs during transmission, from generating stations to
the end users. The resistance of the wire in the electrical grid distribution
system causes a loss of 26% to 30% of the energy generated. Therefore, the
loss implies that our present system of electrical transmission is 70% to 74%
efficient.

SCIENTIFIC STUDIES.

The sun constitutes of hot plasma interwoven with magnetic fields. The energy
is generated by nuclear fusion of hydrogen nuclei into helium. The surface
temperature attained by sun is 5762 K (Kreith F, Kreider JF, 1978). The sun’s
total energy output is 3.8 x 10²º MW, a small quantum of which, 1.7 X 1014
kW of the total emitted radiation is intercepted by earth.

Nevertheless, world energy demand for one year is only 30 min of solar
radiation falling on earth. Entire solar radiation emitted by sun is not reached
on earth due to atmospheric absorption, diffraction and scattering. Thus, a solar
constant is defined by the solar irradiance that the sun deposits per unit area,
that is directlySolar energy technologies transform the energy in sunlight into
electrical and thermal (heat) energy.

The earth’s surface receives approximately 1000 watts of power from the sun
for every square metre facing the sun.Solar energy is a rapidly growing way to
generate electricity, and it is estimated by the International Energy Agency that
solar energy power, and some experts think it will contributeto 50% of the total
world’s energy exposed to sunlight and perpendicular to it is 1.368 kW/m²
(Kalogirou S.A, 2004).

Solar energy harnessing system is broadly classified into two categories viz.
Solarthermal and Solar Photo Voltaic (PV). Thermal system captures the solar
energy and utilizes it for thermal applications like space heating and cooling,
water heating, desalination etc., whereas PV system converts the sunlight
directly into electricity without intervening engine.

Ghaffour Noreddine et al., (2014) presented a Renewable energy-driven

integrated desalination system. Since Solar PV generates high grade energy, it
is not recommended to degrade it into low grade energy utility such as heating
of water, desalination, distillation etc. Tech-Socio-Commercial suitability of
Oceans environment for solar energy harnessing includes

1) Cooling by air and seawater promotes higher PV conversion efficiency

(Skoplaki E and Palyvos JA., 2009).
2) Abundant water for cleaning of the panel.
3) The modular and scalable system from microwatt to megawatt.
4) Reduces water evaporation and growth of algae by shading the water.
5) Buoyancy may be utilized in best way with a supporting a simple
structure design.

SOLAR ENERGY - BASIC PRINCIPLES

Solar energy is created by light and heat which is emitted by the sun, in the
form of electromagnetic radiation. With today's technology, we are able to
capture this radiation and turn it into usable forms of solar energy - such as
heating or electricity.

Solar energy is the sun's nuclear fusion reactions within the continuous energy
generated. Earth's orbit, the average solar radiation intensity is 1367kw/m2.
Circumference of the Earth's equator is 40000km, thus we can calculate the
energy the earth gets is up to 173,000 TW.

At sea level on the standard peak intensity is 1kw/m2, a point on the earth's
surface 24h of the annual average radiation intensity is 0.20kw/m2, or roughly
102,000 TW of energy. Humans rely on solar energy to survive, including all
other forms of renewable energy (except for geothermal resources)

Although the total amount of solar energy resources is ten thousand times of
the energy used by humans, but the solar energy density is low, and it is
influenced by location, season, which is a major problem of development and
utilization of solar energy.

SOLER POWERED CHARGING POINTS

Fig. Solar Powered Charging Points

An electric vehicle charging station, also called EV charging station, electric

recharging point, charging point, charge point, electronic charging station
(ECS), and electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is an element in an
infrastructure that supplies electric energy for the recharging of plug-in electric
vehicles—including electric cars, neighborhood electric vehicles and plug-in
hybrids.

For charging at home or work, some electric vehicles have converters on board
that can plug into a standard electrical outlet or a high-capacity appliance
outlet. Others either require or can use a charging station that provides
electrical conversion, monitoring, or safety functionality. These stations are
also needed when traveling, and many support faster charging at higher
voltages and currents than are available from residential EVSEs. Public
charging stations are typically on-street facilities provided by electric utility
companies or located at retail shopping centers, restaurants and parking places,
operated by a range of private companies.

Charging stations provide a range of heavy duty or special connectors that

conform to the variety of standards. For common DC rapid charging, multi-
standard chargers equipped with two or three of the Combined Charging
System (CCS), CHAdeMO, and AC fast charging has become the de facto
market standard in many regions.

Solar Based Transportation 2019

1) Residential charging stations: An EV owner plugs into a standard

receptacle (such as NEMA connector in the US) when he or she returns
home, and the car recharges overnight.[2] A home charging station usually
has no user authentication, no separate metering, but may require wiring a
dedicated circuit to have faster charging.[3] Some portable chargers can
also be wall mounted as charging stations.
2) Charging while parked (including public charging stations) – a private or
commercial venture for a fee or free, sometimes offered in partnership with
the owners of the parking lot. This charging may be slow or high speed and
often encourages EV owners to recharge their cars while they take
advantage of nearby facilities.[4] It can include parking for an
organization's own employees, parking at shopping malls, small centers,
and public transit stations.[5][6] Typically, AC Type1 / Type2 plugs are
used.
3) Fast charging at public charging stations >40 kW, capable of delivering
over 60-mile (97 km) of range in 10–30 minutes. These chargers may be at
rest stops to allow for longer distance trips. They may also be used
regularly by commuters in metropolitan areas, and for charging while
parked for shorter or longer periods. Common examples are J1772, Type 2
connector, Combined charging system, CHAdeMO, and Tesla
Superchargers.[7]
4) Battery swaps or charges in under 15 minutes. A specified target for CARB
credits for a zero-emission vehicle is adding 200 miles (approx. 320 km) to
its range in under 15 minutes. In 2014, this was not possible for charging
electric vehicles, but it is achievable with EV battery swaps. It intends to
match the refueling expectations of regular drivers and give crane mobile
support for discharged vehicles where there is no charging station.

SPARC STATION
The SPARC (Solar Powered Automotive Recharging Station) uses a single
custom fabricated monocrystalline solar panel capable of producing 2.7 kW of
peak power to charge pure electric or plug-in hybrid to 80% capacity without
drawing electricity from the local grid. Plans for the SPARC include a non-grid
tied system as well as redundancy for tying to the grid through a renewable
power plan. This supports their claim for net-zero driving of electric vehicles.

CASE STUDY INNOGY DUISBURG SOLAR FAST CHARGING

STATIONS

Fig. INNOGY Solar Charge Point Principle

The 150 kW fast charging station is equipped with a 180 m2 27.5 kW solar
rooftop and a 210 kWh battery storage facility. The project is a result of
innogy’s research and development teams. The battery storage minimises the
pressure on the electricity grid by buffering peak load periods with green
electricity from the solar panel when several vehicles are using ultra ultra-fast
chargers on full power at the same time. In addition, it maximises the use of the
solar electricity which can be stored when vehicles are not charging or the sun
is not shining: the charging station can even operate completely off off-grid at
times. When solar power is not available, grid green power is sourced to supply
the additionally needed kWh. While the local grid capacity is often not
sufficient
ficient to connect the fast charging station, with this innovative project,
innogy facilitates the integration of a fast charging station into the grid with
green electricity.

Solar Based Transportation 2019

THE WHOLE MANUFACTURING PROCESS &

DESCRIPTION
A. COMPONENTS
Unlike primary batteries that have a limited lifetime of chemical reactions that
produce energy, the secondary-type batteries found in electric vehicles are
rechargeable storage cells. Batteries are situated in T-formation down the
middle of the car with the top of the "T" at the rear to provide better weight
distribution and safety. Batteries for electric cars have been made using nickel-
iron, nickel-zinc, zinc-chloride, and lead-acid.

Weight of the electric car has also been a recurring design difficulty. In electric
cars, the battery and electric propulsion system are typically 40% of the weight
of the car, whereas in an internal combustion-driven car, the engine, coolant
system, and other specific powering devices only amount to 25% of the weight
of the car.

Other technologies in development may provide alternatives that are more

acceptable to the public and low (if not zero) emissions. Use of the fuel cell in
a hybrid automobile is the most promising development on the horizon, as of
1999. The hybrid automobile has two power plants, one electric and one
internal combustion engine. They operate only under the most efficient
conditions for each, with electric power for stop-and-start driving at low speeds
and gasoline propulsion for highway speeds and distances. The electric motor
conserves gasoline and reduces pollution, and the gas-powered portion makes
inconvenient recharging stops less frequent.

Fuel cells have a chemical source of hydrogen that provides electrons for
generating electricity. Ethanol, methanol, and gasoline are these chemical
sources; if gasoline is used, fuel cells consume if more efficiently than the
internal combustion engine. Fuel cell prototypes have been successfully tested,
and the Japanese began manufacturing a hybrid vehicle in 1998. Another future
hope for electric automobiles is the lithium-ion battery that has an energy
density three times greater than that of a lead-acid battery. Three times the
storage should lead to three times the range, but cost of production is still too
high. Lithium batteries are now proving to be the most promising, but limited
supplies of raw materials to make all of these varieties of batteries will hinder
the likelihood that all vehicles can be converted to electrical power.

Solar Based Transportation 2019

B. RAW MATERIALS
The electric car's skeleton is called a space frame and is made of aluminum to
be both strong and lightweight. The wheels are also made of aluminum instead
of steel, again as a weight-saving method. The aluminum parts are poured at a
foundry using specially designed molds unique to the manufacturer. Seat
frames and the heart of the steering wheel are made of magnesium, a
lightweight metal. The body is made of an impact-resistant composite plastic
that is recyclable.

Electric car batteries consist of plastic housings that contains metal anodes and
cathodes and fluid called electrolyte. Currently, lead-acid batteries are still used
most commonly, although other combinations of fluid and metals are available
with nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries the next most likely power source
on the electric car horizon. Electric car batteries hold their fluid in absorbent
pads that won't leak if ruptured or punctured during an accident. The batteries
are made by specialty suppliers. An electric car like the General Motors EV1
contains 26 batteries in a T-shaped unit.

The motor or traction system has metal and plastic parts that do not need
lubricants. It also includes sophisticated electronics that regulate energy flow
from the batteries and control its conversion to driving power. Electronics are
also key components for the control panel housed in the console; the on-board
computer system operates doors, windows, a tire-pressure monitoring system,
air conditioning, starting the car, the CD player, and other facilities common to
all cars.

Plastics, foam padding, vinyl, and fabrics form the dashboard cover, door
liners, and seats. The tires are rubber, but, unlike standard tires, these are
designed to inflate to higher pressures so the car rolls with less resistance to
conserve energy. The electric car tires also contain sealant to seal any leaks
automatically, also for electrical energy conservation. Self-sealing tires also
eliminate the need for a spare tire, another weight- and material-saving feature.

The windshield is solar glass that keeps the interior from overheating in the sun
and frost from forming in winter. Materials that provide thermal conservation
reduce the energy drain that heating and air conditioning impose on the
batteries.

Solar Based Transportation 2019

C. DESIGN
Today's electric cars are described as "modern era production electric vehicles"
to distinguish them from the series of false starts in trying to design an electric
car based on existing production models of gasoline-powered cars and from
"kit" cars or privately engineered electric cars that may be fun and functional
but not production-worthy. From the 1960s-1980s, interest in the electric car
was profound, but development was slow. The design roadblock of the high-
energy demand from batteries could not be resolved by adapting designs.
Finally, in the late 1980s, automotive engineers rethought the problem from the
beginning and began designing an electric car from the ground up with heavy
consideration to aerodynamics, weight, and other energy efficiencies.

The space frame, seat frames, wheels, and body were designed for high
strength for safety and the lightest possible weight. This meant new
configurations that provide support for the components and occupants with
minimal mass and use of high-tech materials including aluminum, magnesium,
and advanced composite plastics. Because there is no exhaust system, the
underside is made aerodynamic with a full belly pan. All extra details had to be
eliminated while leaving the comforts drivers find desirable and adding new
considerations unique to electric automobiles. One eliminated detail was the
spare tire. The detail of the rod-like radio antennae was removed; it causes
wind resistance that robs energy and uses energy to power it up and down. An
added consideration was the pedestrian warning system; tests of prototypes
showed that electric cars run so quietly that pedestrians don't hear them
approach. Driver-activated flashing lights and beeps warn pedestrians that the
car is approaching and work automatically when the car is in reverse.
Windshields of solar glass were also an important addition to regulate the
interior temperature and minimize the need for air conditioning and heating.

Among the many other design and engineering features that must be
considered in producing electric cars are the following:

Batteries that store energy and power the electric motor are a science of their
own in electric car design, and many options are being studied to find the most
efficient batteries that are also safe and cost effective. An electric motor that
converts electrical energy from the battery and transmits it to the drive train.
Both direct-current (DC) and alternating current (AC) motors are used in these
traction or propulsion systems for electric cars, but AC motors do not use
brushes and require less maintenance.

35 JSPM’S BhivraBai Sawant Polytechnic, wagholi. ( Department of E&TC)

Solar Based Transportation 2019

A controller that regulates energy flow from the battery to the motor allows for
adjustable speed. Resistors that are used for this purpose in other electric
devices are not practical for cars because they absorb too much of the energy
themselves. Instead, silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs) are used. They allow
full power to go from the battery to the motor but in pulses so the battery is not
overworked and the motor is not underpowered.

Any kind of brakes can be used on electric automobiles, but regenerative

braking systems are also preferred in electric cars because they recapture some
of the energy lost during braking and channel it back to the battery system.

Two varieties of chargers are needed. A full-size charger for installation in a

garage is needed to recharge the electric car overnight, but a portable recharger
(called a convenience recharger) is standard equipment for the trunk so the
batteries can be recharged in an emergency or away from home or a charging
station. For safety, an inductive charger was created for electric cars with a

D. THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS

The manufacturing process
required almost as much design
consideration as the vehicle
itself; and that design includes
handcrafting and simplification
as well as some high high-tech
approaches. The assemblers
work in build-station
station teams to
foster team spirit and mutual
support, and parts are stored in
modular units called creform
racks of flexible plastic tubes
and joints that are easy to ffill and
reshape for different parts. On the high
high-tech
tech side, each station is equipped with
one torque wrench with multiple heads; when the assembler locks on the
appropriate size of head, computer controls for the machine select the correct
torque setting for
or the fasteners that fit that head.

E. BODY SHOP
The body for the electric car is handcrafted at six work stations.

1) Parts of the aluminum space frame are put together in sections called
subassemblies that are constructed of prefabricated pieces that are
welded or glued together. The glue is an adhesive bonding material, and
it provides a connection that is more durable and stiffer than welding.
As the subassemblies for the undercarriage of the car are completed,
they are bonded to each other until the ent
entire
ire underbody is finished.
2) The subassemblies for the upper part of the body are also bonded to
make larger sections. The completed sections are similarly welded or
glued until the body frame is finished. The body is added to the
underbody. The adhesive uused
sed throughout staged assembly of the frame
is then cured by conveying the body through a twotwo-stage
stage oven.
3) The roof is attached. Like other parts of the exterior, it has already been
painted. The underbody and the rest of the frame are coated with
protective
ive sealants, and the finished body is moved to the general
assembly area.

F. GENERAL ASSEMBLY
General assembly of the operating
components and interior of the electric
car is completed at eight other work
stations.

At the first assembly station, the first sset

of the electric car's complex electronics
are put in place. This includes the body
wiring and seating of the Power
Electronics Bay which holds the
Propulsion Control Module, integrated
drive unit, and a small radiator. The
integrated drive unit consists of the
alternating current induction motor and a two two-stage
stage gear reduction and
differential. These units are all preassembled in their

the vehicle design. It takes six work stati

vehicle. Each station is equipped with one torque wrench with multiple heads;

The interior is outfitted. Flooring, seats, carpeting, and the console and dash are
placed in the car. The process is simple because the instrument panel and
console cover are made of molded, fiberglass reinforced urethane that has been
coated with more urethane of finis
finish quality and with a non-reflective
reflective surface.
These two pieces are strong and don't need other supports, brackets, or
mounting plates. Assembly is straight forward, and performance is superior
because fewer pieces reduce possibilities for rattles and squeak
squeaks.

G. BATTERY WORK
At the third work station,
the air conditioning,
heating, and circulation
system is inserted, and the
system is filled.

The battery pack is added.

The T-shaped
shaped unit is
seated by lifting the heavy
pack using a special hoist
up into the car. The pack is
attached
ttached to the chassis, as are
the axles complete with wheels and tires. With both batteries and the
propulsion unit in place, the car no longer has to be moved from station to
station on specially designed dollies. Instead, it is driven to the remaining w
work
stations. The system is powered up and checked before it is driven to the next
team.

The windshield is installed and other fluids are added and checked. The door
systems (complete with vinyl interiors, arm rests, electronics, and windows)
are also attached,
ched, and all the connections are completed and checked. The
exterior panels are added. Similar to the roof and doors, they have been
prepared and painted before being brought to the work station. The final trim is
attached to complete the upper exterior.

Solar Based Transportation 2019

At the final work station, the alignment is checked and adjusted, and the under-
body panel is bolted into place. The process concludes with the last,
comprehensive quality control check. Pressurized water is sprayed on the
vehicle for eight minutes, and all the seals are checked for leaks. On a
specialized test track, the car is checked for noises, squeaks, and rattles on a
quality-based test drive. A lengthy and thorough visual inspection concludes
the quality audit.

Unique to the electric vehicle is the battery pack. The battery pack is made up
of rechargeable secondary-type batteries that act as storage cells. Batteries are
situated in T-formation down the middle of the car with the top of the "T" at
the rear to provide better weight distribution and safety.

H. QUALITY CONTROL
Industry has proven that work stations are a highly effective method of
providing quality control throughout an assembly process. Each work station
has two team members to support each other and provide internal checks on
their part of the process. On a relatively small assembly line like this one for
the electric car (75 assemblers in a General Motors plant), the workers all know
each other, so there is also a larger team spirit that boosts pride and
cooperation. Consequently, the only major quality control operation concludes
the assembly process and consists of a comprehensive set of tests and
inspections.

Unique to manufacture of the electric car, the operation of the car has been
tested during the final assembly steps. The car has no exhaust system and emits
no gases or pollutants, so, after the battery pack and propulsion unit have been
installed, the car can be driven inside the plant. Proof that the product works
several steps before it is finished is a reassuring quality check.

I. BYPRODUCTS/WASTE
There are no byproducts from the manufacture of electric cars. Waste within
the assembly factory also is minimal to nonexistent because parts, components,
and subassemblies were all made elsewhere. Trimmings and other waste are
recaptured by these suppliers, and most are recyclable.

J. THE FUTURE
Electric cars are critically important to the future of the automobile industry
and to the environment; however, the form the electric car will ultimately take
and its acceptance by the public are still uncertain. Consumption of decreasing
oil supplies, concerns over air and noise pollution, and pollution caused (and
energy consumed) by abandoned cars and the complications of recycling
gasoline-powered cars are all driving forces that seem to be pushing toward the
success of the electric car.

LOANS & BUSINESS FINANCE

7 - STEPS OF BUSINESS FINANCE

1) GETTING A BUSINESS LOAN

The most common option for getting funding is through a loan given by banks
as well as other financial institutions. Nowadays, getting a loan is not as easy
as it was before. The financial-economic crisis that hit several years ago has
made banks restrict lending to small businesses. It is therefore very important
for you to know the necessary steps for getting a business loan from a bank so
you can improve your chance of getting an approval. Here are seven steps to
take when applying for a business loan from the bank.

2) HAVE A PROPER BUSINESS PLAN

In order to secure a loan, many banks need you to have a strong financial plan
which brings out what your business entails. It forms an introduction about
who you are and what your business is all about. A business plan should be
able to state the business' goals, mission and how it will be run in order to
achieve all the objectives stated. Remember a great business plan means that
the business is likely to succeed according to the mind of the lender.

3) STATE HOW YOU WANT TO SPEND YOUR FINANCES

Banks have a tendency to assess how the loan applicant wants to spend the
funds borrowed. If you want to purchase equipment for example, you need to
apply for an equipment loan. On the other hand, if you want funds to keep the
business running before your debtors pay you, it would be advisable to apply
for a short-term loan. Thus, stating what your loan will be used for makes it
easy for the bank to determine whether the amount applied for will meet all
your needs.

4) STATE THE AMOUNT OF MONEY YOU NEED

When applying for a loan, it is good to do a thorough research in order for you
not to underestimate or overestimate the amount of money you require. This is
due to the fact that underestimating could lead to financial problems in the
future. Overestimating on the other hand makes the bank question whether a
thorough research was done before writing the business plan. To avoid all these
doubts, have a good budget with proper financial projections.

42 JSPM’S BhivraBai Sawant Polytechnic, wagholi. ( Department of E&TC)

Solar Based Transportation 2019

5) BE KEEN ON YOUR CREDIT SCORE

Nowadays, all banks have to verify whether every applicant is eligible to be

given a loan. When applying for financial help, it is advisable to check your
personal credit reports and scores. A credit score of 700 and above is excellent.
If your score is below 680, it would be hard for you to get a loan but you may
want to consider a revenue based loan as an alternative. If your score is low,
work hard and raise it before applying for any bank loan.

6) CLEAN UP YOUR CREDIT REPORT

Sometimes there could be errors in your credit report and if you are not careful,
it might negatively affect your credit score. This is why it is always advisable
to monitor your business credit and personal credit files regularly. In case you
notice some errors, contact a credit reporting agency immediately to rectify and
raise the score by removing the discrepancies, otherwise no loan will be
approved by a bank when your credit rating is low.

7) ASSESS ALL YOUR LENDING OPTIONS

After checking your credit report and ensuring that it is okay, it is time to
research and come up with a list of banks that are viable to extend the type of
loan you are in need of. Choose the bank that offers loans at low interest rates
and offers the most flexible approval guidelines.

8) KEEP PROPER FINANCIAL RECORDS

Getting a business loan from a bank becomes easier when you have proper
financial statements. Banks will always want to check your balance sheet, cash
flow statements and income statements so as to ascertain whether you have the
ability to repay the loan or not. This means that if you have not been keeping
these records, it is time to start since they could be of help in future when
applying for a loan.

SBA Form 2483 (04/20)
Paycheck Protection Program
Borrower Application Form

Purpose of this form:

This form is to be completed by the authorized representative of the Applicant and submitted to your SBA Participating Lender. Submission of
the requested information is required to make a determination regarding eligibility for financial assistance. Failure to submit the information
would affect that determination.

Instructions for completing this form:

With respect to “purpose of the loan,” payroll costs consist of compensation to employees (whose principal place of residence is the United
States) in the form of salary, wages, commissions, or similar compensation; cash tips or the equivalent (based on employer records of past tips
or, in the absence of such records, a reasonable, good-faith employer estimate of such tips); payment for vacation, parental, family, medical, or
sick leave; allowance for separation or dismissal; payment for the provision of employee benefits consisting of group health care coverage,
including insurance premiums, and retirement; payment of state and local taxes assessed on compensation of employees; and for an
independent contractor or sole proprietor, wage, commissions, income, or net earnings from self-employment or similar compensation.

For purposes of calculating “Average Monthly Payroll,” most Applicants will use the average monthly payroll for 2019, excluding costs over
$100,000 on an annualized basis for each employee. For seasonal businesses, the Applicant may elect to instead use average monthly payroll
for the time period between February 15, 2019 and June 30, 2019, excluding costs over $100,000 on an annualized basis for each employee.
For new businesses, average monthly payroll may be calculated using the time period from January 1, 2020 to February 29, 2020, excluding
costs over $100,000 on an annualized basis for each employee.

If Applicant is refinancing an Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL): Add the outstanding amount of an EIDL made between January 31, 2020
and April 3, 2020, less the amount of any “advance” under an EIDL COVID-19 loan, to Loan Request as indicated on the form.

All parties listed below are considered owners of the Applicant as defined in 13 CFR § 120.10, as well as “principals”:

 For a sole proprietorship, the sole proprietor;

 For a partnership, all general partners, and all limited partners owning 20% or more of the equity of the firm;
 For a corporation, all owners of 20% or more of the corporation;

provide your social security number may not affect any right, benefit or privilege to which you are entitled. (But see Debt Collection Notice
regarding taxpayer identification number below.) Disclosures of name and other personal identifiers are required to provide SBA with
sufficient information to make a character determination. When evaluating character, SBA considers the person’s integrity, candor, and
disposition toward criminal actions. Additionally, SBA is specifically authorized to verify your criminal history, or lack thereof, pursuant to
section 7(a)(1)(B), 15 USC Section 636(a)(1)(B) of the Small Business Act (the Act).

Disclosure of Information – Requests for information about another party may be denied unless SBA has the written permission of the

criminal, or administrative in nature. Specifically, SBA may refer the information to the appropriate agency, whether Federal, State, local or
foreign, charged with responsibility for, or otherwise involved in investigation, prosecution, enforcement or prevention of such violations.
Another routine use is disclosure to other Federal agencies conducting background checks but only to the extent the information is relevant to
the requesting agencies' function. See, 74 F.R. 14890 (2009), and as amended from time to time for additional background and other routine
uses. In addition, the CARES Act, requires SBA to register every loan made under the Paycheck Protection Act using the Taxpayer

identification number when you apply for a loan. If you receive a loan, and do not make payments as they come due, SBA may: (1) report the

due to you from the Federal Government, (4) suspend or debar you or your company from doing business with the Federal Government, (5)
refer your loan to the Department of Justice, or (6) foreclose on collateral or take other action permitted in the loan instruments.

and the maturity. Proprietary data on a borrower would not routinely be made available to third parties. All requests under this Act are to be
addressed to the nearest SBA office and be identified as a Freedom of Information request.
Occupational Safety and Health Act (15 U.S.C. 651 et seq.) – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) can require
businesses to modify facilities and procedures to protect employees. Businesses that do not comply may be fined, forced to cease operations,

Solar Based Transportation 2020

CONCLUSIONS AND RECCOMENDATIONS

This study looked at future 2040, 25 model years from now, when it was assumed that
all automobiles will have been replaced by electric (PEVs and PHEVs) vehicles only.
Certain assumptions were needed to be held in order to forecast various types of data,
essential to the process of obtaining related results. Results showed that the annual
cost of operating a PEV or a PHEV, in 2040, is 3 to 4 times as low compared to a
gasoline-powered car, not including battery’s replacement cost. Furthermore, it was
estimated that the cost to fuel California’s automobile fleet in 2040 would be half of
that required had there been only gasoline-powered vehicles on the roads.

The study also calculated the net tailpipe emissions of all automobiles in 2040 for the
two cases where in the first case they are all electric (PEVs and PHEVs) and in the
second they are all gasoline-powered. It was found that if California switches to
electric vehicles it would reduce its CO2 emissions by 40 million metric tons. The
number of power stations needed to be built to meet the electricity demand to power
the State’s automobile fleet in 2040 was estimated by the type of energy source the
plant uses, assuming the State’s power production mix is the same between now and
2040.

However, as the State is expected to increasingly keep moving towards renewable

sources, in order to meet its goal of reducing its emissions by 80% of 1990 levels,
California is likely to reduce even further the projected 40 million metric tons of CO2
emissions. Moreover, should the State decide to resort to using nuclear sources of
energy more widely in the future, not only it will be able to reduce substantially its
CO2 emissions but also will need to build far fewer plants due to the very high
capacity factor nuclear source brings into the mix.

Another great challenge that the State will need to overcome in order to accommodate
the transformation of its future, 2040, automobile fleet into an electric-based one
(consisting solely of PEV’s and PHEV’s) is the construction and instalment of a great
number of charging stations. Specifically, based on the stated assumptions, it was
estimated that the State will need to build on average 42,599 charging stations per year
in the period 2015-2040 a rate 38 times higher to the one between 2014 and 2015.

Solar Based Transportation 2020

However, with developments in charging technology in combination to an increased

demand for electric vehicle technologies the number of required charging stations may
decrease along with the cost of their construction. Through this study, overall, it is
apparent that the benefits that EV’s bring, assumed not only on a personal for the
consumer level but also for the general well-being, are significant.

However, major steps need to be taken towards battery technology and charging
planning and infrastructure. But, since a free market is dictated by the economic laws
of supply and demand, it is equally important that consumers’ view on these
technologies must change in order to propagate such revolutions. On a more individual
level, I believe that it is duty of us all to be as adequately aware of these, and any
developing, technologies in order to be able to make responsible, to ourselves, the
others and the planet, decisions.
