Problem statement –

INLET D OUTLET

L
• GIVEN –

1. Length of pipe (L) = 1 meter

2. Radius of pipe (R) = 0.1 meter

3. Velocity of water in pipe = 0.1 m/s

4. Wall temperature, Tw = 300K

5. Gauge pressure = 0 Pa

• TO FIND –
To simulate fluid flow through a pipe in ANSYS Fluent and determine:

1. Pressure Contour
2. Temperature contour
3. Velocity contour
4. Change in velocity along axis of pipe with respect to position
5. Change in temperature along axis of pipe with respect to position
6. Pressure drop
7. Validation from Hagen–Poiseuille formula

• Assumption:
1. Steady State
2. Laminar Flow
3. Constant wall temperature
4. Incompressible
5. Single phase

7. Validation by Hagen - Poiseuille formula –

8𝜋𝜇𝐿𝑄
∆𝑝 =

Here, μ = Dynamic Viscosity = 0.001003 kg/m-s

L = Length of pipe = 0.1 m
Q = Volumetric flow rate = 0.000314 m3/s
A = Cross section of pipe = 0.00314 m2

Solving, Δp = 0.080960 Pa
