7th Grade Music Appreciation

Course Syllabus

Welcome to 7th Grade Music Appreciation! I am looking forward to an exciting 12 weeks


working with you as we explore a variety of topics including music notation, music
history, and the music industry. If you ever have any questions about this course or
other music offerings, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Class Expectations
● Listen carefully and follow instructions
● Come to class on time and prepared
● Work quietly
● Raise your hand if you have a question
● Be respectful of school property
● Be respectful of others and their opinions
● No food or drinks

Failure to comply with these expectations will result in appropriate repercussions at Ms.
Hollis’ discretion. Students have been informed of the classroom expectations, and no
warnings are necessary before further action may be taken.

Class Supplies
● Chromebook
● Pencil or pen
● Folder with at least two pockets (specifically for this class)
● Notebook Paper (for taking notes, assignments, etc.)
● School Planner

Grading Policy

The Music Department at Jackson Local Schools has established that Product Grades
will account for 85% of a student’s Total Grade for any given music course. The
remaining 15% of a student’s Total Grade consists of Process Grades. Students can
typically expect the following:

● Tests – Product Points


● Projects – Product Points
● Quizzes – Product Points
● Listening Journals/Classwork/Homework – Process Points (varies by
assignment)

Late work will be accepted no more than one school day late. Work must be completed,
but will only be eligible for up to 50% credit.

Retakes will be determined at the discretion of the teacher. Students are strongly
encouraged to be prepared for class.
