Leadership Action Plan

The key questions I have about leadership and one of the main reasons for taking this

course is to find out what top characteristics and traits are present in successful leaders.

I believe the weekly introductory videos that features other leaders has been very

valuable. I have also benefited from the assigned readings so far in order to learn about

heuristics and possible bias that might affect becoming a good leader. I have spent

additional time reading and watching videos from leaders like Teresa Amabile and

Mark Furst because they presented their reason with such humility and self-awareness.

As an amateur leader, I have several areas for improvement.

 Becoming a great listener and communicator

 To work on improving my bias

 Working on my confidence and public speaking skills

 Being humble, ethical and transparent

 Develop skills to handle challenging situations

 Nurturing my leadership style and knowledge

I need to establish a foundation of leadership skills that will guide me in the right

direction. The tangible steps I have taken to improve my leadership skills begins with

taking this class. It gives me the opportunity to be exposed to the right literature, videos

and well-known business leaders. At work, I currently work at an assistant medical

director with dedicated administrative time. I have started several projects to improve

the efficiency of our emergency department by analyzing patient flow and ensuring
patient and provider safety during this pandemic. This spring, my medical director also

nominated me to attend the Medical Leaders Training Conference in our Physician

Medical Group. I also took the initiative to register for several leadership seminars later

this summer to continue to nurture my leadership skills. Due to my hectic schedule as a

physician and mother, it is difficult for me to find time to read extracurricular books on

leadership, so I must do what works best for me right now. According to Mark Furst,

you know if you are a great leader if you have followers. I do feel like I am respected in

my role and several physicians rely on me for new information concerning our

department. I also meet regularly with the medical director for quarterly reviews on my

progress and the impacts of my current projects.
