SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter consists of the following restatement of the problem, summary of

findings, conclusion, and recommendations of the study about the perceptions of the

selected farmers and agriculturists on the Benefits associated with asexual propagation

of Nephelium lappaceum L. (Rambutan).

RESTATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

METHODOLOGY

This study aimed to investigate the condition of the perceptions of the

selected farmers and agriculturists on the Benefits associated with asexual propagation

of Nephelium lappaceum L. (Rambutan).

Specifically, this study intends to answer the following questions:

1. To what extent do farmers perceive the benefits associated with asexual propagation

of Nephelium lappaceum L. (rambutan) considering the following:

1.1 Convenience and ease of propagation;

1.2 Selection and maintenance of clones;

1.3 Quick maturity;

1.4 Rapid flower precocity;

1.5 Uniformity in appearance; and

1.6 Repair of damaged parts of trees.

2. Is there a significant difference in the perception of the farmers and agriculturists on

the perceived benefits associated with asexual propagation of Nephelium lappaceum L

(rambutan)?

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

This study investigated the perceptions of the selected farmers and agriculturists

on the benefits associated with Nephelium Lappaceum L. (Rambutan). Given below are

the findings of the study.

1. To what extent do farmers perceive the benefits associated with asexual propagation

of Nephelium lappaceum L. (rambutan) considering the following:

1.1 Convenience and ease of propagation;

The results show that the asexual propagation is easier, more convenient,

more economical and more practical means of producing rambutan has the highest

rating with a mean of 2.72. Followed by the quick result in large plant with a mean of

2.70, the most widely used in fruit growing with a mean of 2.57, the fastest way to

reproduce rambutan with a mean of 2.55, lastly, the best method with a mean of 2.48.

Overall, with the verbal description of strongly agree. To the average mean of 2.60 and

with the overall verbal description of strongly agree.

1.2 Selection and maintenance of clones;

The results show that the bear the same type has the highest rating with

the mean of 2.78, followed by the clones of mother plant with mean of 2.73, require the

connection of a “scion” with the mean of 2.70, characteristic of a mother plant with the

mean of 2.63, inarching and grafting with the mean of 2.52, and followed by the

genotype with the mean of 2.47. Overall, with the average of 2.64 and with the overall

verbal description of strongly agree.

1.3 Quick maturity;

The results show that the years of fruit growing has the highest rating

mean of 2.60, followed by the reproductive maturity with the mean of 2.53, growth

phase with the mean of 2.42, and lastly, the hamper of the flowering with the mean of

2.35. The overall total average of 2.48 and with the verbal description of strongly agree.

1.4 Rapid flower precocity;

The results show that the distinction between male and female has the

highest rating with the mean of 2.72 and verbal description of strongly agree, followed

by the factors with the mean of 2.65, the primary means with the mean of 2.58, followed

by the variability with the mean of 2.30 and with the verbal description of agree, and

lastly, the high flowering with the mean of 1.90. Overall, with the average of 2.43 with

the overall verbal description of strongly agree.

1.5 Uniformity in appearance;

The results show that the advantages of grafting has the highest rating

with the mean of 2.43 with the verbal description of strongly agree, followed by the

genetic uniformity of the plantation with the rating mean of 2.27, and the same length in

terms of orchard growing with the same mean of 2.27, with both verbal description of

agree. The overall total average of 2.32 and with the overall verbal description of

agrees.

1.6 Repair of damaged parts of trees.

The results show that the healing graft union has the highest rating with

the mean of 2.65, with the verbal description of strongly agree, followed by the injured

rambutan with the rating mean of 2.50, followed by the healing process with the mean

of 2.48, the callus from the stock with the mean of 2.47, the callus cells with the mean of

2.43, the method commonly used with the mean of 2.42, and followed by the repairing

of damaged parts with the mean of 2.30 with the verbal description of agree. The overall

average mean of 2.46 and with the overall verbal description of strongly agree.

2. Is there a significant difference in the perception of the farmers and agriculturists on

the perceived benefits associated with asexual propagation of Nephelium lappaceum L

(rambutan)?

The result of the study shows that there is no significant value in terms of

convenience and ease of propagation, selection and maintenance of clones, quick

maturity, rapid flow precocity, and uniformity in appearance which only means that both

of the selected farmers and agriculturists have the same perception in asexually

propagating Nephelium lappaceum L. (Rambutan) plants. Looking at the table 8.1, it is

explained further that the mean rank between the selected farmers and the agriculturists

doesn’t have big differences regarding on the benefits stated. On the other hand, there

is a significant value in terms of repair parts of damaged parts of trees. As shown in

table 8.1, the selected farmer’s shows high mean rank compared to the agriculturists.

This explains that the perception of the selected farmers in terms of the benefits

associated with asexual propagation of Nephelium lappaceum L. (Rambutan)

(Rambutan) is higher than the perceptions of the agriculturists.

CONCLUSION

Based on the summary of findings, the researchers came up with the following

conclusion:

The respondents who are the selected farmers and agriculturists at Valencia,

Negros Oriental rated each condition under the extent of their perception on the benefits

associated in asexual propagation of Nephelium lappaceum L.(Rambutan). First

condition is the convenience and ease of propagation with an extent of perception

“highly beneficial”. Second is the selection and maintenance of clones with an extent of

perception which is “highly beneficial”. Third is quick maturity with an extent of

perception, “highly beneficial”. Fourth is the rapid flower precocity with an extent of

perception, “highly beneficial”. Fifth is the uniformity in appearance with an extent of

perception, “beneficial”. Lastly, is the repair of damaged parts of trees with an extent of

perception which is “highly beneficial.” The data gathered was based on the

respondents abstract ideas in which majority are the farmers.

Furthermore, the data showed that there is no significant relationship between

the perceptions of the farmers and the agriculturists in Valencia, Negros Oriental.

RECOMMENDATION

In this study, the respondents strongly agree on the benefits associated with

asexual propagation of Nephelium lappaceum L. (Rambutan) as perceived by the

selected farmers and agriculturists. The respondents also agree on the advantages of

asexual propagation as an easy way to propagate Nephelium lappaceum L. (Rambutan)

plants. The researchers found out that most farmers nowadays are practicing the kinds

of asexual propagation. The researchers highly recommend that:

 If planning to graft Nephelium lappaceum L. (Rambutan), it is advisable to attend

trainings or seminars first to have a better idea about the right process and

method of grafting Rambutan plants.

 In growing or grafting Nephelium lappaceum L. (Rambutan), it is best to buy of

say 3 years of age, as they would start fruiting within the next couple of years.

 If setting up an orchard, employ spacing of 30 feet to 40 feet (9m-12m) between

plants for maximized production, depending on the degree of general vegetative

growth in the region. Also, keep the trees at a max height of 20 feet.

 Apply fertilizers once or twice every year, if required. Also apply moderate

irrigation during the peak dry summers.
