Width Calculation

Basic maneuvering lane,

WBM = 1.5B (moderate)

Additional width for straight channel section,

Wi1 = 0.1B (low prevailing cross current)

Wi2 = 0.2B (Average Aids to Navigation)

Additional width for two-way traffic,

WP = 1.4B (moderate vessel speed)

Width for Bank Clearance,

WBR or WBG = 0.5B (Sloping channel edges and shoals, moderate vessel speed)

Maneuvering lane in a bend = 3.7B (Deflection Angle 26°)

Stopping Distance = 5L

Diameter of turning basin = 4L (without tug assistance)

Required Width,

W = 2WBM + 2∑Wi + WBG + WBR + WP

= 2 (1.5B) + 2(0.1B + 0.2B) + 2(0.5B) + 1.4B

= 3B + 0.6B + B + 1.4B

= 6B (Straigh0t Portion)

W = (2x3.7B) + 0.6B + B + 1.4B

= 7.4B + 3B = 10.3B (Angle of deflection 26°

W = (2x4.4B) + 0.6B + B + 1.4B

= 8.8B + 3B = 11.8B (Angle of deflection 26°

Depth Calculation
Target Vessel Static Draught = 2.5m

Trim of Vessel = 0.3m (rule of thumb)

Squat of Vessel = 0.02

Depth allowance = 0.6m

Over depth Allowance = 0.3m

Required depth = 3.72m

Take 4m.
