Spolarium – Eraserheads

Many reviews of the song are saying that that was all about a rape case of the late
sexy actress Pepsi Paloma, but I will diverge to that idea pretending that I know nothing
about what really happened behind the song.
Based on what I understood in the song Spolarium, it had a very heavy atmosphere to
listen to, the song has the mood being in the state of depressed or extreme tragic event. From
the first stanza saying “Dumilim ang paligid, may tumatawag sa pangalan ko labing isang
palapag, tinatanong kung okay lang ako sabay abot ng baso…” based on what I understood it
speaks to the listeners the setting of the event where it all happens. They are trying to offer
the main character a drink maybe for them to exploit him/her. The chorus of the song “At
ngayon, ‘di pa rin alam kung ba’t tayo nandito” Is trying to tell us that, the person had no idea
of the scheme of the people who invited him/her. The song is clearly made for someone who
is a victim of a very tragic happening which leads him/her to depression, “Pwede bang itigil
muna ang pag-ikot ng mundo.” What I understood in that line is that the victim or the subject
is begging for something that will take or save him/her out because he/she didn’t understand
anymore what is happening. The pre-chorus of the song changes to the suspects’ perspective
as the lyrics of the song goes “Ewan mo at ewan natin, sino’ng may pakana” after the tragic
event they have done, they are passing the dirt to each other and they don’t want to admit
which fault it is. The third stanza of the song really is the controversial one since sir Ely
Buendia dropped the names of Enteng and Joey, well known men in the showbiz, which leads
to more conspiracies I have thought of, I believe those two characters mentioned earlier
played a crucial role of the song storyline they could have been the suspects which as the
stanza says: “Anong sinulat ni Enteng at Joey diyan sa gintong salamin, di ko na mabasa
pagkat merong nagbura” I have understood in the stanza is that there is something shady
about the event that happened since these individuals mentioned are too powerful to be put
down they can do what ever they want to the powerless victim.
All in all, the song Spolarium by EHeads played a crucial role in whatever the author
is finding out. Sir Ely Buendia said that it is up for the listeners to construct their own
understanding of the song. They did not drop anything for those who are in power will
choose to ignore them. For me the song is all about an unexpected event that led to a very
tragic one. This song serves as my insight that not everyone you see in the media has a very
clean image.
