the new lesson - Please stand up for our opening prayer.
- Greetings: Good morning/afternoon, class!
- How are you today?
- May I first check the attendance. Class monitor, who is absent
today?
- What is our lesson last meeting?
- Very Good! Why is values important to you as a person?
- Very good.

M O T I V A T I O N
- Before we start our lesson, I have a story about 4 persons
represented by four bottles.
- The first person, Jane, is a person who wanted to find true love, one
that she had dreamed about since she was a little girl. One day, she
met Joe at a birthday party. Joe is a boy who is already in college and
he seemed like a good person.
At first, they became friends, but as weeks pass by, Joe started to
show his interest in Jane. But Jane wanted to take it slow, she was
taught about courtship at school and she believed in it. But Joe, on the
other hand is a modern guy, he said that if you like somebody, why
would you waste your time in courtship?
Out of pressure, Jane began to have second thoughts. She began to
realize that maybe courtship is irrelevant.
They met at a café, and talked about their

B. Establishing a - Sexually transmitted infection (STI) is a communicable disease that

purpose for the is spread by a pathogen causing (disease-causing organism) from one
lesson person to another person through sexual contact. Despite the efforts
of government and civil society, the incidence of STIs particularly
HIV and AIDS continue to increase. Thus, it poses a serious threat to
Filipinos especially to young people like you.
- Why do you need to learn the Sexually Transmitted Diseases?
- Very good! Sexually Transmitted Infections are transmitted through
an exchange of body fluids during sexual intercourse. What do you
think is the cause of these infections?
- Very good! Since it is caused by bacteria and virus, some of it can
be treated successfully. But STIs such as HIV or aid have no cure.
The good news is all Sexually Transmitted Infections can be
prevented.

C. Presenting - How will you know if you have STI?

examples/instances of - Very good, If you had a sexual intercourse with a person you just
the new lesson met or a person infected with STI, you can determine that you are
infected and in need of medical care if these symptoms appear:
discharge from the genitals, warts, blisters, or sores from the genital
area, a rash, painful urination or flu-like symptoms.
- If you think you have these symptoms, what should you do?
- Very good. But, sad to say, some STIs don’t have any signs or
symptoms. In fact, 1 out of 10 people can have STIs but be
asymptomatic. These people are carriers and are very dangerous
because they can transmit an infections without even knowing it.
D. Discussing new - What ways do you have in mind to prevent the spread of STIs?
concepts and - Very good, the only certain way to prevent and to keep from
practicing new skills catching these diseases is by abstinence.
#1 - Why do you think is abstinence the only certain way to prevent
STIs?
- Very good.
E. Discussing new - Teens are the age group which is most likely to get STIs that is why
concepts and it is important that you learn more about these infections.
practicing new skills - (The teacher will present five pictures showing different viruses)
#2 - Here are five pictures. What do you think are these organisms?
- Very good. In other words they are pathogens, or organisms that
invades the body and is the reason why a person get sick.
- (The teacher will refer to the first picture)
- Let’s examine the first organism, what do you think it is? A
Bacteria or a Virus?
- Very good. It is an infection caused by bacteria. In fact this bacteria
is called Chlamydia Trachomatis Bacterium. If left untreated, what
will be the complication of this STIs in Women?
- Very good. (The teacher will show an illustration of an ectopic
pregnancy and will explain a little about it)
- Can chlamydia effect men? How?
- Very good. Also this can cause blindness to a newborn baby from a
mother who is infected of chlamydia.
- Who can guess what kind of organism the next picture is?
- Very good. This virus is called Herpes Simplex-2 Virus. What STIs
can be developed by this virus?
- Very good. Unfortunately there has no cure for herpes but there are
antiviral drugs that can be taken by a person with this illness to
control its replication.
- How can Herpes affect a person?
- Very good. Shall we proceed to the next organism?
- (The teacher will proceed to the next organism.)
- Very good. It’s called Neiserria Gonorrhoea Bacterium.
Gonorrhea is the disease caused by this bacteria. How do gonorrhea
affect an infected person?
- Very good. What do you think is the next organism?
- Very good, it’s called Treponema Pallidum Bacterium. This
bacteria causes Syphilis. If this disease is left untreated, what
would be it’s the complications to a person?
- Very good. Shall we proceed to the next organism?
- What do you think it is?
- Very good. In fact this Virus is known as Human
Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV. If left untreated what will be the
final stage of this infection?
- Excellent. I think that you have somewhat heard about Acquired
Immune Deficiency Syndrome caused Human Immunodeficiency
Virus. What have you heard/learned about this disease?
- Let’s take a look at a video that explains HIV/AIDS. (The teacher
will play a video.
- Is there a known cure for AIDS or HIV?
- Can HIV be transmitted without sexual intercourse? How?
- Yes. Very good. Is there a cure for HIV
- Unfortunately, there is no known cure. But there is an antiretroviral
medicines that an HIV infected individual can take to control the
spread and reproduction of HIV inside the body. If left untreated,
what will be the complications of HIV?
- Very good.
F. Developing Mastery - What are the two common organisms or pathogens that causes
(Leads to Formative STI’s?
Assessment 3) - Very good. How can you cure STIs caused by bacteria?
- Very good. How about viral infections such as Herpes and HIV, is
there a cure?
- How can it be controlled?
- Very good. There is a lot of ways to prevent STI’s what are those?
- Very good. Out of all of those ways to prevent STIs the only
effective way is Abstaining from sexual intercourse and taking
intravenous drugs. That’s why it is important to only have sexual
relations to the person you’re married with which is also free from
STIs. Understood?
- Now, we’re going to have a group activity, but before that, I want
you to watch and learn from the visual representation of why is it
hard to cure HIV?
G. Finding practical - I think that you’re ready for a group activity. Group yourselves into
application of two.
concept and skills in - What you’re going to do is to check or put a tick mark in YES or
daily living NO column if you think that the statements are the ways of
acquiring HIV. After that, you’re going to report your answer and
provide information that you’ve learned to support your answer.
- You only have 10 minutes to answer and I will only give 5 minutes
to each presenter to defend their answer.
- (Presentation)
H. Making - Who can share their learning today?
generalizations and - Very good. Now that you have learned
abstractions about
the lesson
