Reflection of Light

 Under ordinary circumstances Light travels along a

straight line .This property is called Rectilinear
propagation of Light
 The law of Reflection states that’ The angle of
incidence is equal to the angle of reflection’.
 Images formed by a Concave mirror depend on the
object location.
Object location Image location Nature of
Image
Beyond C Between C and F Real,
(So > 2f) f < Si < 2f Diminished
Between C & F Beyond C Real,
F < So < 2f Si > 2f Magnified
Between F and Found by mirror Virtual,
mirror equation Magnified
1/f = 1/So + 1/Si

Images formed by convex mirror are virtual, erect and

diminished.
Read your text book from page 199-210 and enjoy the
exercise below.
1. The image of an object located at a very large distance
from a concave mirror is located at
A) Center of curvature B) Between C and F
C) Focal point (F) D) Behind mirror
2. The image formed by plane mirror is
A) Magnified B) Diminished C) Same size
3. Which of the following is an application of a convex
mirror?
A) Shaving mirror B) Rear view of mirrors of a car
C) Head lights of a car D) Search lights
4. Where must be an object must be placed in front of a
concave mirror to obtain a real image with the same size
of the object?
A) At the focal point B) At the center of curvature
C) Very far from the mirror D) None
5. An object 12cm high is placed 6cm in front of a convex
mirror of focal length 2cm.Determine the size and
location of the image formed
a) Using ray diagram
b) Using formula
Challenge of the week
