Unit 19 Task 2

Mateusz Wilk

Client Brief

Create Interactive narrative production including pre-production document that can be viewed on
different digital devices for example smart phones, tablets and PC. Standard of the work should be to an
industry standard and should include interactive elements such as use of hyperlinking page to page with
transitions.

Own Brief

I will research animation, storytelling and design techniques in order to better understand of industry
standard of interactive narrative productions and how to implement features from professional
productions in my work. I will use images from game “King of the Dragon Pass” which I will transform in
Adobe Illustrator into more stylised work.

Market research ideas

I will investigate and research similar productions like Six Ages and how their productions choices
affected the product as well as how their target audience has been selected. I will review responses from
forums and official discussion on the subject.

Brainstorming and Mood Boards

I will investigate different fantasy settings and stories and try to combine the most interesting stories and
ideas to produce high quality product. I will create multiple storyboards and sheets full of ideas for
character, story, clothing and locations.

Sketches

Copyright

Because of how large of a project it is I will have to consider using stock images for the background. I will
try to use only copyright free images which I can use without asking for permission to use. I might use
copyrighted images by incident or out of convince in either situations, I will have to give credit to a
person or company holding rights to the images. I will be using Photoshop to create most of my scenes
including characters and buildings as I have rights to use the software for my project although only at the
college and to fully focus on it, I will have to purchase the rights to use it so I can create my work without
any legal problems.

Ethical issues

Story of my of product is largely based main character traveling the world and meeting different tribes
and civilizations. As the design of my characters is mostly based on different cultures I will have to make
sure that none of cultures may feel offended by the use of their cultures heritage in my work. Although
if any of those cultures felt offended it could result in decrease of popularity of my product and maybe
even banning of showing of my work in their native countries.

Decency

The amount of indecent material will be limited, as I want my work to be approachable from any age
group from teens to older folk in their 60’s. The only indecent material used will be the fighting scenes in
which characters fight. The scene will not include blood.

Libel

All of my characters, locations and overall story is fictional. Therefore there will be no ground for relation
to the real life stories except names of places and characters. To find this information I will research
locations in Europe and names from different culture groups including Nordic and Slavic cultures.

Intellectual property rights

The only intellectual property are environment from Game “King of the dragon pass” which I modified. I
will have to consider changing them if the project will be sold.

Navigation

For navigation I will use sliders on the left and right of the screen as well as simple clickable buttons on
the left and right.

Logo Graphics

I will use simple still image for the menu with the main character.

Screen Icons

Visible icon on the screen will be a shield on black background as a connection to the tribal style of the
work.

Background

I will use one background image for the main menu to make it more interesting it will be new image not
used in the product otherwise.

Texture Graphics

I will not use texture graphics as all my work is done as still images painted with brush and other tools in
Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Client Needs

Client is looking for interactive narrative production which could be open on the mobile devices such as
tablets and smartphones. Client Clients brief allows for creative freedom in terms of subject.

Audience

I will create art style and atmosphere most pleasing for 16+ audience as they are one of the most
engaging age groups on the internet and are far more likely to see my product. My narrative production

will not include blood, but subject of death which will be implied in the story might be to mature for the
younger viewers, as such 16+ audience is old enough and understand what is present on the screen and
make for the better focus group.

Visual Style

I’m creating more of a stylised art which can be sometimes considered cartoonish combined with 2d
illustrations. Colours will be more of a blend between bright and dark tones in most of the scenes, but on
characters I will use brighter colours to indicate that they are important to the story. Below are some of
the examples of which I will based my work. To produce the contrast between dark background and
bright characters I will use effects form Photoshop like shadows and more simple tricks such as creating
black square on the top of the image and increasing its opacity.

Typography

will be using simple font as I want the viewer to focus more on the visual content of the scenes then on
the story. The main menu will use different font, but all of the dialogues and story will be Calibri (body).
Below are some examples of the font I that I will use in my project.
