Introduction
The unofficial Guide to No Man's Sky is a complete guide to this vast, exploration-focused game. The
information contained in this guide should prove to be very helpful in exploring the cosmos and reaching
the center of the universe, which will complete the main objective of this production. The initial pages of
this guide include, among other things, a number of useful tips and information on how to leave the first
planet or name the things we discover.
No Man's Sky is a new production from the small team at Hello Games, studio founded by industry veterans.
The production allows for unlimited exploration of a gigantic universe made up of trillions of planets. The
player can explore celestial bodies of varying atmosphere compositions and climates, catalogue the life forms
living on them, fight the mysterious Sentinels, discover the secrets of ancient civilizations, as well trade and
travel in order to reach the center of the universe. The size of the production makes it a title that can provide
almost infinite amounts of gameplay, and the only limitation here is the player's desire to explore.

Basic information
General tips & hints
• Do not go AFK for too long. Spending time on a planet's surface consumes the power supply of our life
support system, which must be regularly recharged. If we deplete your energy reserves, our character
will die. Furthermore, weather conditions on the planets can vary, for example, at night the
temperature can drop significantly, and during the day we will face vicious storms that significantly
reduce the time our character may spend outside the ship. If we want to leave the game for a while, it
is safer to do so with the character sitting in the cockpit of our spaceship.

• Every planet has significant deposits of carbon, zinc, iron and any one of the fuels available in the
game, making it virtually impossible for us to get stuck on a planet that because of poor resource
management - in the worst case, we will be forced to take a long walk on foot to resupply.

• Hoarding resources other than fuel isn't really worth it - what we procure on the surface of a planet
(and what we do not need on the spot to improve or repair something) is better sold for any kind of
profit than left to occupy our precious inventory space until it may or may not be useful or sold for 3
percent more cash. Sooner or later we'll stumble upon this resource once again. And even if we don't,
we can always buy it for credits - assuming we empty our cargo hold regularly, we will soon collect
enough money not to fret at the thought of purchasing this or that resource on the market.

• The Scanner is a source of some very valuable information. By looking at the color of the marker we
are able to determine what can be found in a particular location. The red markers indicate isotopes
(i.e. various types of fuels), yellow ones - oxides (usually containing zinc), blue - silicates (most often
with platinum), and the white ones lead to one of the much rarer elements, usually highly-valued on
the market, such as aluminum or gold, or perhaps to a gift box. The purple color symbolizes
Knowledge Stones that allow us to learn a single word of an alien language, while the darkgreen
markers usually lead to camps where we can find transmitters or buildings.

• We should also use the Scanner when off-world. Very often, it enables us to discover mineral deposits,
trading outposts, wrecks or even factory located somewhere on the planet's surface, and save time on
searching for a suitable place to land.

• When we go planetside, it is good to first decide on a suitable landing spot instead of choosing one at
random. If we can land in the vicinity of a building that enables us to trade, we can save time on trips
into space and back.

• Sometimes we can come across a wreckage of some other spacecraft. This is a free opportunity to
swap our current vessel for a better one, but you should keep in mind that the "new" vehicle will have
most of its components damaged and restoring the ship to a usable condition can be very time
consuming - sometimes it is outright more cost-effective to purchase a new, fully operational vessel
on a space station.

• The easiest way to solve the problem of shortage of space in our inventory is to proceed through the
game's plot until we acquire the AtlasPass v1 access card. The card will enable us to buy additional
inventory slots on the space stations (which are found in every system) we visit. While it is a one-off
purchase on each station, after visiting several star systems, our problem of lack of space will become
much less annoying. If we do not yet have an AtlasPass, we have to carefully explore the planets -
sometimes the opportunity to increase our cargo capacity awaits at landmarks.

• Atlaspass w2 and w3 access cards can only be acquired by searching through buildings and speaking
with aliens in search of new technologies. The plans you receive after completing dialogue puzzles are
random, but there's always a small chance that you will receive the "right one". Manufacturing
facilities and abandoned buildings are a good starting point for search.

• Incorrect answers for puzzles during an interaction with an alien, a terminal, or a monolith will cause
you to lose your chance - you won't be able to repeat the process. You can, however, bypass this
limitation by loading the last saved game.

• Never let the mining beam to overheat. When the heat bar becomes red you just have to let the
trigger go for about a second and you will be able to resume the mining operation afterwards. This will
allow you to save a lot of time needed for the device to cool down after overheating.

• Monoliths are a valuable source of equipment upgrades and knowledge about the language of the
aliens. Those monoliths that present you with a puzzle to solve always reward you with a plan for a
new technology, or even a new multitool.

• Refrain from selling Atlas' stones if you are following its path. During your visit at the last Atlas
Interface you will need 10 of those stones to create a new star in the galaxy.

• Analyzing some of the flying creatures with the visor might prove to be impossible. In that case you
just have to shoot down the said animal and analyze its body.

• When you are located on a planet rich in very rare elements, you should fill up your suit inventory and
your ship storeroom with those said elements. This will allow you to earn a small fortune on the
closest space station or trade facility.

• You should focus on increasing the amount of space of your suit inventory. This will allow you to
spend more time on gathering expeditions and this in turn will offer greater profits when visiting a
trade terminal.

• In the galaxy map widow you can perform a scan that will show you all of the systems and planets
discovered by other players in the nearby area, as well as the discoveries made by you. This will in
turn allow you to revisit those places.

• Atlas' path is a little longer when it comes to the distance, but at the same time easier and will allow
you to reach the galaxy core quicker thanks to the resources it supplies you with.

• While docked at the space stations you should check the prices of different elements, note the ones
that sell well above the galactic average and, without leaving the system, head to nearby planets to
acquire them. Additionally, you can earn some money without leaving the space station - you just
have to purchase those elements from aliens and sell them with profit at the nearby terminal.

How to start the game in No Man's Sky?

It may look like one, but this is not a loading screen!

When we first launch No Man's Sky, we will see, after some time, a white screen that says "Initialise..." right
in the middle. Many players take that as an information that the game is still loading and wait for the proper
fun to begin. Actually, at this point the game has already loaded and is ready to start. The player must hold
the key/button visible on the screen (square on the PS4 controller, E key on PC) to start the initialization of
the suit and proceed to the game.

The first minute or so of the game is a cut-scene

After the initialization screen is gone, there will be a short delay before we can actually take control of our
character. That's the time it takes for our exosuit to boot up various subsystems; in the meantime, we can
enjoy the landscape. Once all elements of the UI are visible on the screen, and the camera stops looking
around by itself, we can truly begin our adventure.

Our guide and the game's central computer - Atlas

Our first step should be to thoroughly search our "camp". We'll find some resources and information
concerning some new components we can craft. Another key element to be found on our landing site is Atlas
- a red, spherical crystal, and the pillar of No Man's Sky's plot (figures, as it's the guy from the game's logo
as well).

How to leave the first planet in No Man's Sky?

Your first step should be to repair the scanner

Before we get the opportunity to explore the boundless cosmos, we must first patch up our spaceship and
equipment. The first step should be to get the Scanner up and running, as it will be very helpful in locating
the elements required for other repairs. To know what exactly we need, we have to open the inventory by
pressing the corresponding button (Touchpad on PS4, TAB key on PC) and select our Scanner. The window
says that to fix the scanner we need twenty-five units of carbon. Fortunately, carbon is a very common
element, present in almost every plant. We close the panel and start looking around. Good chances are that
the first tree or bigger bush we see will contain the carbon we need. To collect it, just use the mining beam
(R2 on PS4, LMB on PC) while aiming at the plant - after a short while, we will acquire a sufficient amount.
Now, all that remains is to re-open the inventory, find the Scanner once again and hold the appropriate
button (X button on PS4) to perform the repairs. We proceed in the same manner with all the other repairs;
the only thing that changes are the required components.

As soon as we fix the scanner, we will be able to see nearby mineral deposits by pressing the button assigned
to it (L3 on PS4, C key on PC). Our next step should be to repair the Analysis Visor, another very useful tool
for resource prospecting. In contrast to the Scanner, the Visor won't be showing us resource icons directly; it
works like a binoculars, except it's also able to analyze the elements, fauna and flora we discover. To repair
the Visor, we need iron (which will also be required to repair the ship). Sadly, the Scanner will be unable to
help us locate it; fear not though - finding iron is as simple as splitting one of the rocks scattered in
abundance around us.

In No Man's Sky life is money

Scanning new species of animals and plants will be rewarded with Units, making for a simple yet decent
method of earning money. Furthermore, scanning newly discovered sites (such as outposts or wreckages)
will permanently place them on our radar, enabling us to easily navigate between them. Undiscovered
species and elements are initially marked with a red disk inside a white circle. Once they've been scanned,
the disk will change its color to green, allowing for simple identification of the things we already have in our
data base.
Having gathered the most critical research tools, we can proceed to repair our spaceship. First, we
need to fix the launch thruster, then the pulse engine, and finally acquire some fuel supplies. Broken
components of the ship will be highlighted by an exclamation mark and framed in red.

To repair the launch thruster we need carite sheets, and to craft them we need iron. Once we acquire the
iron, we open the inventory panel and... select one of the empty fields this time. By holding down the
appropriate button (square on PS4, E key on PC), we open the list of craftable items, then we select carite
sheet and craft the new component. Repeat the process until we have the required amount of sheets, then
repair the thruster, same as we did earlier with the Scanner.

A heridium deposit

Having a working launch thruster, it's time to fix the pulse engine, used for conventional flight. This time, our
"repair shopping list" is somewhat longer - aside from the already acquired carite sheets, we will also need
zinc and heridium. This is where the Scanner comes in handy - as soon as we use it, the screen will explode
with numerous icons, showing the location of various elements; one of the markers should lead us to a
heridium deposit.

Sometimes, the marker can lead us to a deposit located fifteen or so minutes away, but this does
not mean that the resource can't be found somewhere closer. It's best to head in the direction
indicated by the scanner while looking around for a massive rock that glows blue, just like the one on the
screenshot above. Once we find it, we simply follow the procedure of acquiring any other element, be it
carbon or iron - we shoot the object and pick up what we need. Zinc, in turn, requires even less work - we
use the Scanner and head for the yellow markers. There we will find yellow flowers, from which we can
obtain about a dozen resource units a piece.

The yellow marker, the one looking like a gold ingot, will show us the way to the zinc deposit

Eventually, our spacecraft is once again fully operational. Before it is ready to rise into the sky, however,
there is still the matter of fuel - we need plutonium for the launch thruster and Tam9 for the pulse
engine. Fuel is also necessary to power the mining beam, life support systems, shields and many other
components, so it is always wise to carry a slight surplus of this resource.

We activate the Scanner and head for the nearest red marker (isotopes) - each planet contains quite a bit of
them. Plutonium takes the form of red crystals, abundant in various underground caves, but they can also be
found on the surface. Tam9 can be harvested from red plants growing sparsely on the planet's surface, the
Scanner will enable you to locate them without any trouble though.

Sentinels often swarm around wrecks and outposts

On more than one occasion during our travels, we will encounter flying Sentinel drones - they will be our
first opponents on the planets we visit. We can avoid fighting them by evading their field of view; if we
do get scanned, however, all other nearby drones will be alerted and will come to attack us. While our mining
beam is enough to deal with them, we can dispatch them more effectively if we use the offensive functions of
our multi-tool, which we can research from the very beginning. Destroyed drones can provide various
elements, but also high-value components and weapon blueprints, dropped in the form of canisters that
have to picked up from the ground where the drone was destroyed.

If need be, we can easily recover our health or shields by finding the right plants. The ones that glow yellow
will recharge our shields, the purple ones will heal us. To activate the effect, we simply have to interact with
the plants.

Once we're properly prepared, it remains to return to the ship, fill her up and hold down the start button (R2
or W key). It's time to conquer the universe!

How to leave the first system in No Man's Sky?

A space station can be found in each system

The gravity of the planets no longer holds us in its grip, but this isn't enough to reach the center of the
galaxy. Before you can think about such journey, first you must obtain technology that allows traveling
between the systems. Only after that you can start the main journey.
Just after leaving the starting planet, you should visit the closest space station, marked with an orange icon
on the screen. If the station is far away, simply lock on it and activate the pulse engine (L1 + L2 on PS4 or
Space on PC). You will be using the pulse engine whenever you need to travel between far points in current
system. In order to use it to reach precisely where you want, simply set the crosshair on selected planet or
object icon - the ship will safely take you there. The ship automatically avoids collisions with objects in
space and it has an autopilot. After selecting the destination and activating the pulse engine, you
don't need to worry about anything else.

All space stations (except for anomalies, but more about them later), no matter the shape or size, have only
one entrance and same interior. Once you reach the station, at first you can go only in one place - the only
open door located on the right from the landing zone. Behind the door you will always find two things -
an alien life form that serves the role of receptionist, and a galactic trading terminal on the wall.
By speaking with the alien you can obtain valuable information, new technologies or items. At first the
conversation will be more about guessing alien's intensions, but after some time your vocabulary will become
richer and it will become easier for you to communicate.
After a short conversation (a fruitful one if you're lucky) you will go to the trading terminal in order to
sell the surplus of items obtained on the planet. Here you can sell items from your inventory and the
ones from the ship. In addition to the terminal, you will also find other things in the room, but it depends on
the station what items will it be. There might be a terminal that analyzes your multi-tool and gives you new
technologies. Except for that, the only common thing found always in this room is locked door to which you
don't have the key yet (more about it further in the guide).

The transmission will be received after leaving the first planet.

Once the visit at the station is over, you will return to exploring the space. Your first destination will be the
received transmission that will lead you to a buoy. Visiting it will start your next objective, obtaining the
hyper drive. It is a mandatory objective, so the signal will appear on your screen automatically. If you used
the option of unlocking additional content (from the pre-order) and you used it to change your ship, then this
part of the game will be skipped since the bonus ship already has this technology. Now you must lock the
signal (the blue icon) and activate the pulse drive.

The autopilot will take you to the source of the signal - all that you must do yourself is land near the buoy
(square on PS4, E on PC). After landing on the surface of the planet you must activate the buoy. This will
guide you to another point on the planet which you must visit. For now, focus only on the current task - the
faster you complete it, the quicker you can freely roam through the galaxy.

The signal from the buoy will lead you to the life form that lives in a small building on the planet. What life
form you encounter will be based on what aliens are living in the planet system you start the game in. After a
short conversation (which you don't need to understand) the alien will give you - for free - blueprints for
building your own hyperdrive. Building this device will require having a dynamic resonator and
heridium. If you don't have enough of that silicate element with you, then you must search for it on the
surface of the planet, similarly as at the beginning of the game.

It will also be a perfect opportunity to search for other valuable elements since soon you will need
about 30 000 units to buy the resonator. With a bit of luck you can find gold or emeril deposit. The latter
is a good source of income - it is more valuable than gold and always can be found in large quantity. Look on
the planet surfaces for large deposits of this ore. It is very similar to gold, but has slightly more green color.

No matter what elements (in large quantities) you obtained on the planet, your next step is to return to the
space station. Now you should sell your goods in the trading terminal and then buy the dynamic resonator
that is available there. It should cost about 30 000 units. Now you must build the hyperdrive for your ship. In
order to do it you must select free slot on the ship and install the technology. You're close to the finish, but
you still need special fuel for the hyperdrive - warp cell.

After leaving the station you will see your next destination - the abandoned manufacturing facility (green
icon). This part of the mission will be mandatory for everyone no matter whether he has the bonus or the
basic ship - either way he will have to get the fuel for the drive. Similarly as previous, you must locate the
icon of the facility and activate the jump engine.

After landing near the facility you will receive new instructions which you must fill in order to get inside.
Abandoned facilities are frequently locked and your mining beam might not be enough to get inside. You
must install offensive weapon in your multi-tool - the Boltcaster. It will require 25 units of iron and
plutonium. Both can be found near the building. After installing the Boltcaster all that's left for you to do is
use it to destroy the heavy armored door. When you start attacking the door, an alarm will be triggered and
three drones will come at your position. If you destroy them all, three new will be called when you resume
attacking the door. Because of that, it is better to leave one drone alive - it shouldn't be hard since the
drones frequently appear behind the building and are unable to attack you.

After entering the building you must interact with the terminal located inside. After a while you will receive
blueprints for technology that allows producing antimatter. Antimatter is an ingredient for the warp cells. In
order to create warp cell, you will need one more item - suspension fluid. Sadly, at this point of the game you
probably won't have the blueprint for manually creating it.

In order to obtain the suspension fluid you will have to return to the space station. Here you can buy it for
about 20 000 units.

Now all that's left is to craft the first warp cell. Creating a warp cell takes a few steps requiring different
ingredients:

• Electron vapor is created from suspension fluid and 100 units of plutonium
• Antimatter is created from electron vapor, 50 units of heridium and 20 units of zinc
• Warp cell requires antimatter and 100 units of Tam9.

Most of these resources can be easily obtained on the planet surfaces or bought in terminal. However, there
are no guarantees that the trading terminal will have enough quantities. Tam9 can be rarely found on
planets, but there is an easier way for obtaining large number of it. Simply fly out of the station and shoot
down a few space asteroids that are rich in this element.

After crafting the warp cell you can tank your hyperdrive. Now you are ready to leave your current system.
Open the map of galaxy (down on the PS4 or M on pc), set your direction towards the center of the galaxy,
confirm and (this time for real) you can start the conquest of the stars!

How to name a newly-discovered planet, system

or species?

Naming the objects you have discovered is very simple

Each planetary system, planet or landmark, as well as animal and plant species that we encounter as the first
ones among the community, will be marked as discovered by us. After we submit it to the online database,
all successive explorers who will reach the same place will know that we were the ones to discover it. Our
findings can be freely named (as long as we avoid words prohibited by the words filter). To do this, open
the options panel (OPTIONS button on PS4 or ESC on PC). In the DISCOVERIES panel we will find every
single object we have discovered. To send them to the database, simply hover over them with the cursor to
confirm the transmission of data (square on PS4, E key on PC) or to change the name and then send the data
(triangle on PS4, X key on PC). Once a name has been confirmed and submitted, it can not be
changed! For every discovery we receive a symbolic amount of money.

Exploration
The galaxy

You have already learned the basics of navigation, mining, trade and production. Now, it is time to start your
exploration of the galaxy. In No Man's Sky, it is easy to miss some facilitations and pointers, or focus on
time-consuming actions that offer little in return. Of course, there is more than only one "correct" way to
your destination. In this part of the guide I would like to present effective methods of exploration that will
allow you to achieve your goals faster.

Let's start with navigation around the galaxy. I have already mentioned that, after you access the galaxy
map, you can access three basic tabs: path to the galactic core, free exploration mode and path to the
navigational point (i.e. Path of Atlas). The first two remain in this view regardless of the choices that you
have made so far.
The path to the galactic core is determined on the basis of your current location, and on the performance of
your ship. Taking this path will undoubtedly lead you to the center of the galaxy, but apart from the pointer
towards the destination, it provides you with no other benefits.
The free exploration mode (as the name itself suggests) allows you to pick your route in any direction - e.g.
towards planets that have been discovered by other explorers. This way, you can also divert from your
current route to visit the systems that you have already discovered. However, this carries the risk of getting
lost in the space, if you keep exploring on your own for too long, which may be considered the game's
additional advantage, by some.
The third path (which displays only in the case of those who have selected to be guided by Atlas) is the
easiest one. Not only does this path lead you to the very center of the galaxy, but also aids you in your
journey, thanks to the Atlas Interfaces scattered all along it. Undoubtedly, this route will allow you to reach
your destination the fastest.
The fourth tab appears only when you have set your own navigational mark, by selecting any system and
selecting the appropriate option in its menu. Unfortunately, to make things more difficult, as of now, there is
no option to remove your own navigational mark and additionally, such a path is identical with the Path of
Atlas. Fortunately, you can only view it from the fourth tab in the galaxy map, which is why you only have to
be careful in order not to confuse these two.

The system

Navigational marks revealed by the scanner on the orbit

Now, let's focus on the exploration of the system itself. Right after you have made a warp jump, you end up
by the space station orbiting around the main planet in the system. But what next? Here, you can use the
scanner. Activation of the scanner reveal on the ship in the outer space (it does not work in stations)
reveals new navigational points, which make a good start for the exploration of the nearby planets. Each
instance of scanning the system reveals one navigational mark only, so you have to use the scanner multiple
times to reveal more points. Usually, the scanner reveals the most valuable locations on planets, such as
production facilities, operation centers, intelligent life forms on the planet, etc. Points that are revealed this
way are displayed a bit away from the planet, which makes it easier to lock on them and activate the warp
drive/autopilot.

The space around the planets is not merely a stop between the planet surface and jumps into another
system. This space is not empty. What you, predominantly, find here are asteroids that are rich in all sorts of
elements. Thanks to your cannons, you can start mining for them, but you have to remember that such
elements are automatically transferred to the cargo bay of the ship, which is why you have to make room for
them. The key and the most common of elements that you find on orbits is Tam9 which serves as fuel for
your warp drives. Thanks to obtaining this element, you make sure that you do not get stuck between
planets without the option to make a warp jump resulting from insufficient fuel. Occasionally, from asteroids,
you can obtain such elements as nickel, aluminum, or iridium. These deposits are not too sizeable, and it is
difficult to make a fortune from them (rare elements come in trace amounts) but with time, orbital mining
will allow you to save some time and effort on searching for the more common elements.

You can be attacked by pirates in any point more distant from civilization

Also, staying in the outer space for too long is not devoid of dangers. Often, your ship will be scanned and
then attacked by pirates. There are only two ways to handle such situations - fight or flight to the nearby
station or planet. If you decide to escape remember that enemy ships jam your warp drive engine and
can also disengage it if you are currently using it. As a result, escaping may only be possible if there are
nearby planets or space stations. This is why, it is a good idea to invest in not only the holding capacity of
your cargo bay, but also in ordinances
Staying in the outer space for longer is not devoid of any dangers. Often, your ship will be scanned and
attacked by pirates. There only are two things you can do in such situations is either fight or flee. If you
decide to escape, you have to remember that enemy ships disable your warp drive and they can
disengage the engine altogether, if you have been currently using it. As a result, escape may be effective
only if there is a planet, or space stations, nearby. This is why, apart from the cargo capacity of your ship's
hold, you should also invest in ordinances and armoring. Death in outer space is not permanent, yet it can be
painful. If you lose, you will wake up on the nearest orbital station, not only with your pride crushed, but also
with your hold empty, and usually with an element damaged. The only thing you can do, at that point, is
either load the last game save, or clench your teeth, go back to the location where you have been shot down
and retrieve your lost materials.

The S.O.S signal from the attacked fleet

Apart from random pirate attacks, you can occasionally pick up a distress signal from one, or several, cargo
ships. If this happens, you can help the attacked fleet, thanks to which you win reputation points with the
attacked race. You simply have to get to the source of the signal and engage the small ships attacking the
large cargo vessels. However, you should be very careful here and not damage the hull of such a vessel,
even by mistake. Space battles follow the "no leniency" rule and it only takes a single misaimed
shot to have the fleet, which you were going to defend, turn on you. Distress signals are not the only
form of interaction with cargo vessels/warships. If you will, you can also become a pirate. Each of the large
vessels has several weak points that you can attack - mainly cargo containers, which you can seize
afterwards, and cannons. Remember, however, that attacking such a ship ends in losing reputation points
with the race that you have attacked. The same goes for attacking smaller friendly ships.

The planet

A new navigation point

After you have had enough fun on the orbit, it is time for you to come down to the surface of the planet to
explore it. Just like in the outer space, you should use the scanner here. Of course, you can look hard for
yourself to find ruins, shipwrecks and buildings, but this method is not the most effective one. Using the
scanner reveals points of interest within the radius of a dozen-or-so kilometers. Each of such
points (as long as it hasn't been discovered in any other way) will be displayed as a green question mark on
the screen. Only after you land and approach the point, will you be able to identify it. Of course, the more
advanced players will only need to fly over the point to perform a positive visual identification.

Signal scanner on the left, a beacon on the right

An even more effective way to search the planet is using the signal scanner or the beacon, scattered all
around the surface. Scanners are the easiest to locate. You can recognize them by their orange beam going
up, from afar - especially at night. To use it, you will require a bypass chip that you have to build in your
inventory. To build one, you will require 10 iron and plutonium that you can find on any planet. Once you
have the chip, you can use the scanner to locate the following on the planet:

• Monoliths/alien ruins
• Colonial outposts (production facilities, operation centers, etc.)
• Transmissions (beacons, shipwrecks, intelligent life forms)
• Shelter (everything that can be categorized as a building; both occupied and abandoned)

each instance of scanning for a given type of object will reveal only one such object at a time. To search out
more of them, you will have to build and use more bypass chips. Using scanners is the most effective way of
finding what you are currently looking for.
Another type of scanner is a beacon, which is not as common but it will usually lead you to the most
important locations on the surface. You can recognize a beacon by the tall antenna above the surface.
However, due to the lack of lighting of such an antenna, it is easier to find it during the day. Often, you will
find a beacon thanks to using the signal scanner. It is thanks to beacons that you will be, most often,
finding shipwrecks that can be repaired and taken, or alien trade facilities.

A game save point that can be found in nearly any location

Using the game save point not only saves your progress (which is obvious) but also names you the
discoverer of the location. You can name such a location and send information to the server, thanks to which
everyone who comes here in the future knows that you were here first. Also, remember that the game is
saved each time that you leave the ship, but it does not allow you to discover a given location.

Also, special terminals near major installations deserve a mention. By using a bypass chip, you can use
such a terminal to summon your spaceship, regardless of where you left it. This becomes especially
useful in case you find such a terminal after a longer walk, or when... you simply do not know where you
have left the ship. Sometimes, such terminals may look like glowing buoys - they are most common around
production facilities.

An alien T-Rex

Just like in the outer space, on planets themselves there are many dangers. Apart from unwelcoming
weather conditions, radiation and omnipresent drones, you can also find aggressive animals and man-eating
plants! Their arrival is always signaled by the red icon of paw print, provided with an arrow pointing towards
the direction they are coming from. Some inconspicuous-looking animals are capable of draining your shields
out in no time at all (especially ones that travel in packs). Therefore, you should always keep an eye out and
be prepared.

A furball digging up an iridium crystal

Fortunately, the majority of animals do not pose any threat, which does not meant that their only purpose is
decorative. The non-aggressive species are usually quite timid, but you can tame them with some food (i.e.
one of the elements that is usually common on that planet). After you feed such an animal, a smiley
emoticon appears above its head and the animal will take you to a deposit of a material (you will find
out by the magnifying glass icon). Sometimes, the animal will dig out a lump of rare element for you and it
then will be marked with a green exclamation mark.

Atlas' Path
Path of Atlas introduction

After the first interstellar journey that you take, your radar will receive a signal from Atlas, which takes you
to the monolith. This signal will not be received by those of the players who decided to turn down
the help from Atlas. but you can still return there - simply put, this will take more time. To learn more
about the return to the path of Atlas, see the last part of this chapter. Just like in the case of other "storyline"
locations, you do not have to scan the space to have this marker appear on the radar.

This monolith will not require you to solve any puzzles

After you have arrived by the monolith that Atlas directed you to, you only have to interact with it and "trust
the promise". At the same time, it is also a good idea to take some time to use all of the knowledge stones
surrounding the monolith, thanks to which you learn several new foreign words. After you have visited the
monolith, return to the ship and fly away. Of course, it is a good idea to obtain some elements on the planet,
etc.

The next step to take is to return to the orbit. There, you will learn that you should access the galaxy map
where there is a new blue tab (at the top of the screen). This is the Atlas path, which takes you to the
center of the galaxy, along the "storyline" path. Although they are easy to miss, in No Man's Sky there also
are storyline missions that will set you on the right path, as long as you accept help from Atlas.

Follow the blue path and soon you will reach your destination - the Atlas Interface. This is a space station
that resembles a monolith. However, what it hides inside is different from what is in the rest of the stations
that you have so far visited. After you reach the system that the station is located in, dock in the station and
head towards the familiar shape.

Big Brother - Atlas

Right in front of Atlas (that seems to have grown a little) you will notice a terminal that you should use to
talk to the being. Again, accept help which provides you with access to another interface, as well as several
other interesting things. Before you walk away from the terminal, note the two spherical artifacts nearby.
Use them to receive two additional warp cells, which will make traveling much easier. This is only one of
the many facilitations that you receive from your cooperation with Atlas.

This is not all, yet. As long as you are in the station, it is also a good idea to take a closer look at the semi-
spherical lights in the floor. Often, after you approach them, you can learn several new foreign words. After
they have been used, the lights go out and they do not serve any other purpose. After you have explored the
station, board your ship and fly away.

After you have left the station, access the galaxy map again and you will see the continuation of the path of
Atlas, towards the next interface. What is even more, from now on, you can find a Space Anomaly among
stars, from which you can benefit. I managed to find one after the very first jump, after I left the Atlas
Interface. Other players say that it took them more than ten. It all depends on luck and (presumably,
although this has not yet been confirmed) several hidden conditions that you have to meet- such as locating
of monoliths. Of course, you do not have to (and you even shouldn't) haste too much while taking the jumps
across galaxy in search of Anomalies. Otherwise, you may simply run out of Hyper-drive fuel. Do not forget
to explore, earn units, discover new technologies and replace your ship with a new one.

Space Anomaly

When you finally get lucky after you leave hyperspace (which is traveling between systems), you can find an
unique space station marked with a violet icon. What this is, is a Space Anomaly. Just like in the case of Atlas
Interface, anomalies are unique stations that play vital role during your journeys. I have already mentioned
that players who rejected Atlas's help may sooner or later change their minds about that. You can
do that thanks to Anomalies. Secondly, you obtain here a key that will make the game easier and will
save a lot of your time.

Nada and Polo, found in Anomalies

After you dock in, make it over to the only room in the station. Here, you find two key characters: monk
Nada and a Gek Polo. Talk to the monk first.

In Nada's dialogue window, there are three options: return to the path of Atlas, a shortcut to the center of
the galaxy and help in exploration. Returning to the path of Atlas is the only opportunity to use it, for
players who left the path. The shortcut into the center of the galaxy will make it easier for you to locate the
black hole, thanks to which you will reach your destination much faster. The last option, i.e. help in
exploration, will increase your health.

Each time you reach another interface you will need to meet one of the requirements in order to acquire
Atlas' guidance - the appropriate level, represented by your milestones. You are interested in the single
milestone which is the summary of all of the rest and can be found at the bottom of the list in the "Travel"
tab. If you haven't reached the required milestone, you should stay in the same system where the interface
can be found, do activities mentioned on the list and get back to the interface when you've reached the
required level. Different types of milestones will also be required during conversations with Palo in Cosmic
Anomalies.

Reaching the last Atlas' Interface is not the end of your journey, although you are getting closer. During your
visits at the interfaces you will get a single Atlas Stone - remember to not sell those stones. You will acquire
10 of those stones and at the last interface you will learn what you can do with them. By agreeing with Atlas'
guidance for the last time, you will be able to create a new star at the edge of the galaxy, coupled with the
whole system of planets. A new traveler will soon land on one of those planets to start his own adventure.

The Atlas' path ends here, but in return you will be given the coordinates of a nearest Black Hole. Flying into
it will transport you millions of light years into the center of the galaxy, shortening the route towards the
galaxy core. The path to the Black Hole will be marked with a blue line, similarly to the rest of Atlas' path.
What is more, from this moment onwards you will learn about the locations of all of the other Black Holes on
your way. After going through the first Black Hole marked by Atlas you will be on your own - further path
towards the galaxy core must be done with your own strength.

Atlaspass v1
Your conversation with Polo is much less complex, which is not to say it is any less important - quite the
contrary. Polo is very much interested in the contents of your database. You only have to share with him
your findings and he will provide you with a recipe for Atlaspass v1. During your travels, you have already
encountered doors that require these. What you find there will speed up your progression considerably.

Atlaspass v1 is a valuable item that is worth allotting a slot in the inventory

To build the access card, you require common materials: 25 units of iron and 10 units of Herridium. What is
even more. Atlaspass is an item that you have to produce only once and have on your at all times. In the
game, there also are two other cards: Atlaspass v2 and v3. You will have to obtain recipes for
those on your own, by checking out production buildings, talking to alien life forms, etc. Each activity
thanks to which you can obtain a new piece of technology gives you a chance of obtaining one of the cards. It
goes without saying that ransacking of the abandoned outposts and command centers, as well as learning
the alien language are worth the effort, because access cards provide you with access to many useful rooms.

The room behind a door that you open with Atlaspass v1

You can find a door that can be opened with your newly-obtained card on any space station. It is
the door to the left of the runway, i.e. opposite the room with the receptionist. Behind the door, there is a
terminal that you can use to increase the number of slots in your inventory. Also, there are different
terminals here, and they can provide you with information on multitool upgrades, etc. In both basic rooms in
space stations, there also are doors that you can only open with Atlaspass v3. Atlaspass v2 opens many
doors of buildings on the surface of planets.

Freedom - a milestone in your journey

After you reach this point in the game, you can say for the first time that the galaxy is open for you. You are
limited in your journey to your final destination only by your inventiveness. Right now, the only thing left to
do is push forward, explore new worlds, mine for resources, trade, build new pieces of technology and obtain
more and more powerful ships. Starting from now, you will visit many Atlas Interfaces and Space Anomalies,
which will speed up your journey into the center of the galaxy even more. Remember that there is no need to
hurry - there are so many things in the universe waiting to be discovered. Good luck in your journey!

Ship and equipment upgrades

Suit

The suit is both your protection against the hostile environment of visited planets, enemies living there, as
well as your inventory. At the beginning of the game you will have access to a suit with 12 slots, with 3 of
them taken by the pre-installed technology - life support system, shields and jetpack.
As you progress in the game, you will learn new schematics, allowing you to create more advanced tools that
can be installed in your suit. The only limitation is the amount of free slots. Every upgrade, even those that
are associated with the first three technologies installed in the suit require more and more space. What is
more, the space is shared with the storage for collected resources, artifacts and so on. Unfortunately, there's
no way of upgrading, for instance, shields without using up the precious space.
Life support system installed in your suit requires power to function and from time to time you will have to
recharge it with, for instance, plutonium. Shields are regenerated automatically (they will be instantly
replenished after getting on board of a ship), but the process can be boosted by using different oxides.

Landing capsule.

However, you can increase the suit space. This can be done with the help of Landing Capsules that can be
found on the surface of every planet. In most cases you will stumble upon them on your own, but an
alternative allows you to use Signal Scanners - more on that topic can be found in the Exploration chapter.
Each capsule can be used once to increase a single slot in your inventory. The first upgrade is free, but the
price of every subsequent upgrade increases by 10,000J.
The maximum amount of slots in your suit is 48 and the price of the last one is 350,000J - total amount of
money you have to spend is 7,030,000J. Each slot in the suit can store from 1 to 250 units of collected
resources, but not all items can be stacked up. The exceptions are the previously mentioned technologies,
items that you create yourself, artifacts and so on. Only the most basic elements can be stacked up.
Alternatively, the amount of space in your suit can also be increased while on space stations, but to do so
you will need the Atlaspass w1 access card - more on that can be found in the "Atlas' Path" chapter.
Plans for new technologies that can be installed in the suit can be acquired through different methods - by
talking with aliens, visiting production centers, interacting with monoliths. Each planet is full of wreckages of
destroyed technologies, giving you access to new upgrades.

Multi-tool

The tool found in the institution.

The Multi-tool is both your weapon and the most basic mining tool. The Multi-tool you start with has 5 slots
for upgrades, with 2 of them taken by mining beam and scanner. Similarly to the suit, new components can
be gained by acquiring new technology blueprints for the Multi-tool - like the Boltcaster (assault rifle-like
weapon), cooling systems and Plasma Launcher. Mining Beam, Boltcaster and Plasma Launcher require a
source of power, coming from one of the elements found in the game, such as plutonium, coal or Tam9.

Acquiring new Multi-tools with higher amount of slots is a process more difficult than in the case of the suit.
Sometimes you can receive such a device for free, by giving the appropriate answer to an alien or a
monolith, or by searching through shipwrecks. Other Multi-tools (available in Cosmic Anomalies and in some
facilities on the surface of planets) will cost you. The maximum amount of slots a Multi-tool can have is 24
and there's no way of increasing that number - other than swapping to a new model of the tool.
When swapping to a new Multi-tool (be it a free one, or the one you've purchased) you will lose the previous
one, as well as the components installed there. This is why you should first disassemble the old tool to at
least receive some of the precious elements. During the switch you should make use of the "compare" option
- this will allow you to see what new components the tool you're going to switch to has installed and how the
stats of both of them look. If you want to acquire the best Multi-tool (the one with 24 slots), you have to
constantly acquire new ones with one or two more slots than the one you're using. You can't jump from a
Multi-tool with 16 slots to a one with 24 in one go - the game will supply you will only slightly better tools as
you progress.
Slots in Multi-tool are reserved only for new technologies.

Ship

Your ship is your house, your means of transport, your extension of inventory and, of course, a fighting
machine. Similarly to the suit, you can store items here and install new technologies by using the shared
slots. At the beginning of the game the ship is able to accommodate only a small amount of those, which is
why you should look for a better machine as quickly as possible.
The ship upgrading process looks very similar to the one with Multi-tool - this can be done only by purchasing
a new machine, or by finding and repairing one of the wreckages left on the planets. Purchasing a new ship is
easy and looks exactly the same as with a Multi-tool, but to do so you will need to be on the surface of a
space station, or on board of a facility where aliens land.

In order to purchase a new ship you must interact with a specific character and from the dialogue option
select the one to make offer on the starship. This is, however, very expensive and completely unnecessary -
but it all depends on your gameplay style. If you focus heavily on trade and mineral extraction, gaining
millions required for the best ship (48 slots) might be an interesting challenge. Another method is completely
free and perhaps even less time-consuming, but requires you to carefully explore the planets you visit.

Searching for the distress signals of the crashed ships.

To locate a new ship on the surface of the planet you can simply look for the smoking wreckages, but this is
not an effective way. Instead, you should look for the Signal Scanner (more on that topic can be found in the
"Exploration" chapter) and looking for "transmissions". Those will show you the way directly to the shipwreck,
or to an observatory or broadcasting tower which will in turn allow you to easily pinpoint its location.

By tracking the S.O.S. signal you should sooner or later be able to reach a new machine. Similarly to the
Multi-tools, the shipwreck you find might have 1 or 2 more slots than the machine you are currently using -
there's nothing you can do about that. Each one of those machines will obviously be unable to take flight
because of damaged systems, such as the starting and pulse engines. If you decide to switch to this ship,
you should start by repairing those components.
As it was mentioned before, each model found with this method will (most probably) be only slightly better
than the machine you were using. This can be easily used to your advantage, allowing you to acquire the
best machine without leaving the surface of the planet. You just have to repair the shipwreck enough so it
will be able to fly, search for another machine crashed on the same planet and repeat the process. After
some time you will find the machine with 48 slots. This is a time-consuming and tedious process, but in the
long run worth the effort. And most importantly - it won't cost you a penny (aside from the time invested).

You should search for a new ship on Gek's planets, as the broadcasting towers found there can be used
multiple times. In other cases once you use a broadcasting tower, it becomes useless and you will have to
look for another one. To make sure what race inhabits a given system and planets located inside of it, you
just have to go to the space station and check what kind of alien is the "receptionist". If you are already
located on the surface of the planet, you have to find one of the wisdom stones scattered in the area - a word
you learn from the language will tell you what race inhabits the planet.
