LESSON 2

OBJECTIVE:

Students will be able to make an infographic about a celebration.

1. Answer some questions about Ireland:

- What is a Shamrock for Irish people?

- What is the capital of Ireland?

- Where is it located?

- What is an infographic?
2. Look at the St. Patrick’s Day infographic on page 23, match words with the sentences that
describe them using information form the infographic
3. Listen and complete sentences with information from the listening in track 7.
4. You are going to organize a St. Patrick’s Day Party. Write a dialogue about it. Here you
have some ideas for the party:

- When will it be?

5. Choose a holiday from those pictured and research the origin of the holiday and how
people celebrate it. Make an infographic with your findings. Organize the information you
gathered about the celebration in an infographic. Think about what a party for your
holiday would be like and create an invitation for one.

7. Read and match celebrations collocations. Match illustrations of celebration activities with
the colocations for the activities.
8. Put words in the correct order to form sentences in present continuous on page 25

St. Patrick's Day or simply St. Patrick is a holiday of
Christian origin that is celebrated annually on March 17
to commemorate the death of St. Patrick of Ireland,
patron saint of the entire island of Ireland located in
north-western continental Europe.

Memorial Day is a federal commemoration date that


takes place in the United States of America on the last
Monday of May of each year, with the objective of
remembering the American soldiers who died in
combat. It was initially established to commemorate
the fallen soldiers of the American Union who
participated in the American Civil War.

It begins as a ritual of commemoration and


reconciliation after the civil war, although later, at the
beginning of the 20th century, it begins to be seen as
an occasion to pay tribute to the dead in general. So
much so that citizens visit the graves of their deceased
relatives.

Hi Jessica.

Are you having a nice summer? I´m in Rome with my Italian cousins. It’s a lot of funny! Tomorrow,

we are going to the colosseum and the we are having lunch in piazza navona. Pizza, pizza and

more pizza! Later, my mom is going shopping with my aunt, but I’m taking a tour of the Vatican.

Yes I love sightseeing!

We aren´t visiting any other museums because we don´t have time, but we are taking a bus to see

an ancient Roman villa on Friday. And we are traveling back home next week. I´ll text you!
