. These are older people, mostly those over 60 years. The second group of people that are at a high risk are people with underlying medical
conditions like asthma, diabetes, heart disease, etc. it has been found that the younger ones without any pre-existing illness would only
experience mild illness according to authorities but this is changing lately especially the obese. More than 2million people have been
infected with virus across 200 countries with Unites States having the highest number cases of more than 800,000 cases. This new
coronavirus spread through infected air and fluid droplets and as such are easily transmitted by sneezing and coughing. Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) summarizes how a person can be infected as follows; air through coughing and sneezing, close
contact with an infected person and contact with objects that have the virus on them. People catch the virus when they touch their infected
hands to their mouth, nose or eyes. Everyday more people are at risk of catching the virus and there is currently no approved vaccine for
COVID 19. The fast spread of this new virus is that even people who are infected but without symptoms can transmit it to others. In order to
curb or reduce the spread, CDC recommended the following precautions: Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based
hand rub or wash them with soap and water; this is to help to viruses that may be on your hands. Also maintaining at least 1 meter (3 feet)
distance between yourself and anyone can help in reducing the spread of the virus. The reason is that when someone coughs or sneezes
they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets,
including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing or sneezing has the disease. Another precaution is to avoid touching eyes, nose and
mouth with hands because hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your
eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter someone’s body and can make that person sick. Practicing good respiratory hygiene
like covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
And lastly, self-isolation that is stay at home if you begin to feel unwell, even with mild symptoms such as headache and slight runny nose,
until you recover, this is to avoid contact with the public and also not to overwhelm hospitals so that they can effectively help and protect
people with severe symptoms. The Trump administration declare public health emergency in January and several federal agencies have
been involved in the U.S. response to the outbreak. As the federal government leads the national response to COVID-19, state and local
health departments stand on the front lines. United States has recorded more 1million cases nationwide and more than 50000 deaths due
to this pandemic. The high number in cases and deaths shows the poor response of federal government and state government to the
pandemic. I can’t but think of the lives that might have been saved, had it been United States responded the way other countries like South
Korea, did. America recorded the first case of COVID 19 in January, it was not until about 40 days after that major actions were taken by
the government. It was then various rules and regulations were put in place to encourage social distancing. Regulations like closing
schools, businesses, parks, churches, etc. before then the U.S. government only banned foreigners from entering from China when the
outbreak of the virus started in Wuhan in December but did not effectively monitor Americans returning from the country. One of the flaws of
government’s response to the virus outbreak was the absence of national regulations which allowed Americans to move freely from state to
state, thereby spreading the virus. Even though many States and localities ordered businesses, schools, workplaces and also reduce the
number of people that can gather in public. But the measures were not effective because it was not uniform throughout the country due to
the absence of national order, such and Americans can still travel from one area to another, potentially carrying COVID 19 from hot zones
such as New York and Seattle to low risk areas
