Executive Summary
In recent years due to technological development and rapid growth of economy of Bangladesh, a
market has grown for mobile, computers, consumer electronic products and home appliances.
This growing market results an increase in the amount of local consumer products in the market
and a significant amount of electronic products needs to be disposed off after several years of use
which ultimately cause a new environmental challenge. In Bangladesh, the e-waste is reused,
broken down for parts or disposed off completely. The present informal practice of recycling is
not carried out safely and it becomes danger to human health and the surrounding environment.
Not only the people of Bangladesh are not yet concerned about the hazards of e-waste but also
there is lack of awareness in the government and private organizations. According to Bangladesh
Electronic Machinery Marketing Association (BEMMA), Bangladesh consumes around 3.2
million tones of electronic products each year. Of this amount, only 20 to 30 percent is recycled
and rest is dumped as obsolete or disposed of in open places, which is hazardous to health and
environment. So we are gorging to take this opportunity and convert these environmental
challenges into business a model. Our business plan is to collect e-waste from consumers
through E-commerce Platforms such as using (Mobile Apps and websites) and then sell it to the
authorized E-waste Recycler. Since our collection process requires used materials, less energy,
less raw materials, it is a cost effective process. For this reason we have advantages over other,
E-waste Recycler in the market since the idea is completely new in the Bangladesh waste
management market. Another aspect of advantage is that eco friendly. Our business will operate
as a private limited company under the business name Recycle Bin.

Chapter One: Business Overview

1.1 Business Description:

Bangladesh still lacks a proper mechanism for the safe disposal of electrical waste (e-waste). So
our plan is to collect e-waste from users and then sell it to the authorized Recycler, the Common
sources of e-waste include televisions, air conditioners, computers, mobile phones, IT
equipment, fridges, and electric fans. Such items contain precious metals such as gold, silver,
copper, iron, and some other heavy metals. According to a recent study by Bangladesh
University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh produces around 400,000 metric tons of
this e-waste each year. The study also showed that only 3% of the total generated waste is being
sent for recycling. The most common disposal method is by burning it in a pit under the open
sky, but as this releases toxic substances into the ecosystem which is dangerous for human health
as well as the ecosystem. To prevent this we are coming up with a solution by collecting e-waste
from users through Mobile Apps and website so that the e-waste do not go to the hand of
unauthorized buyers who have no idea how to recycle the products without harming the
environment and sell it to the authorized seller . By using our mobile application users can easily
sell their used electronic products to us at a competitive fair market price. Basically we are using
a C2B and B2B business model in our business plan. To sell any used electronic products first a
customer has to create a profile by using their Gmail id into our mobile apps. Once a customer
create his/her profile into our apps or website he/she will face several options such as Products,
Brand, Usage time, Initial Buying Price, Description of Current condition, Attached a Photo or
Video File. The seedling process starts with selecting the product weather you want to sell your
mobile, TV, Fridge etc. The second option is selecting the brand like what is the name of your
product brand such as Samsungs, Noakia, and Apple etc. In third option you have to input your
initial busying price of the products into our apps. After that a description of current condition of
the product is to be written within 150 words. And the Final option is to upload a Photo or video
file of the product within 5MB. Once a user complete all the steps and click on the next button
immediately a sell request will be sent to our operation team and after judging all the options that
the user input to our system an AI based automation price will be shown in the Apps which the
users will receive if he/she wishes to sell their product to at the automation price. After seeing
Page|2

the price if the customer wishes to sell he/she will have to click on the confirmation and then
automation sms will be sent to the user’s mobile number. After that our delivery man will pick
up the product form the users within 24 hours. In terms of a buyer point of view who wishes to
buy e-waste from us, the desire company must register to our websites or apps with their trade
license. After that they can see our categories of product, Brands, Inventory. Once a buyer
chooses all the options and based on his demand he can send a Purchase request to our operation
team by using our app or websites. After confirming the purchase our operation team will
directly contract with the buyer and rest of the procedure will be discussed in a personal meeting.
The buyer can also buy our products by directly contract with us without using the apps or
websites. But for international buyers there will be an auction system in our website. We will
also export our product directly by arranging a business deal with foreign buyer.

Chapter Three: Environment and Industry Analysis

3.1 SWOT Analysis:

Recycle Bin engaged the services of a core professional in the area of collecting e-waste and
structuring to assist our organization in building a well structured e-commerce based -waste
collecting business that can favorably compete in the highly competitive waste collecting
industry in Bangladesh and the world at large.

A SWOT analysis will give us the overall strategic position of the business and its environment.
Its key purpose is to identify the strategies that will create a firm specific business model that
will best align an organization’s resources and capabilities to the requirements of the
environment in which the firm operates. SWOT analysis of Recycle Bin are given below

Strengths:

Our core strength lies in the power of our team; our workforce. We have a team of certified and
highly trained and experience technicians, operators, a team with excellent qualifications and
experience in various niche areas in the waste collecting industry.

Aside from the synergy that exists in our carefully selected workforce, our collecting process
will be guided by best practices in the industry. Mover our business model is environment
friendly and focuses on the sustainable development for the society.

Weakness:

As a new e-waste collector by apps in Bangladesh, it might take some time for our organization
to break into the market and gain acceptance especially from top profile clients (Large Corporate
companies that uses huge numbers of electronic goods) .Lack of consumer awareness about e-
waste and its effect on environment perhaps the our major weakness of our business. Another
weakness is that we may not have the required cash to pump into promoting our business the
way we would want to.

Opportunities:

No doubt, the opportunities in the waste collecting industry is massive considering the number of
individuals and Recycle companies who are now switching over to alternative source of raw
Page|9

materials basically to save cost and energy. As an e-waste collecting company, we are ready to
take advantage of any opportunity that is available in the industry. Moreover our business will
create employment opportunity for the tech savvy youth.

Threats:

Aside from unfavorable government policies, one of the major threats that we are likely going to
face is economic downturn. It is a fact that economic downturn affects purchasing / spending
power. Another threat that may likely confront us is the arrival of new waste collecting
companies in same location where our target market exists and who may want to adopt same
business model like us.

3.2 Porter’s five forces model:

Threat of new entry: Threat of new entry means whenever our business gets profit a new
competitors can enter the market to compete with our service, although our business concept is
very new in Bangladesh but there is always a threat of competition from the potentials
competitor exist in every business. Initially we would not face that much competition but
eventually when we will make profit faster than traditional west collector definitely a lot of
potential competitor will be attracted by our success .So we should always aware of the new
entry and try to keep a balance between Purchasing and selling price.

Bargaining power of: Buyer power is high in recycle industry that is because each and every
buyer has the power to control the market due to their high purchasing power. So our business
should keep the price moderate so that we could attract a lot of new buyer in country and outside
of the country.

Bargaining Power of suppliers: In waste collecting industry our major supplier will be large
corporate house and users of electronic goods. In terms of large corporate supplier they might
posses some negotiating power while sell their usable goods to us. But single individual supplier
will be posses less negotiation power than large corporate suppliers but they have the power to
switch the brand. So our business manager will try to keep contract with many suppliers to keep
the purchasing price as moderate as possible.
P a g e | 10

Competitive rivalry: Competitive rivalry means same type company with same type products,
to avoid competitors, our business will always bring new products/different types products with
low cost. And our business will do market research to know about the competitors. Initially we
won’t face that much competition but as time grows we will face competition.

Threat of substitutes: Substitutes mean same products with same facilities. Substitute’s
products are always threat for any business. So we have also the threat of substitute’s .So our
business will try to keep away the substitutes by purchasing and selling the e-waste at a moderate
price.

Chapter Four: Sustainability Analysis

4.1 Feasibility Analysis:

Feasibility analysis determines whether the business idea makes sense. Thorough feasibility
analysis provides a lot of information necessary for the business plan. For our business we need
to develop an AI based mobiles app as well as website and there is a number of developers in
Bangladesh who are expert in developing high quality mobile apps and websites so we can
measure that technically and financially our business is feasible.

4.2 Prototyping:
Our test marketing will be run for six months. During these times we will advertise our service a
lot. We will choose local market because from there we can take information whether our service
meet the acceptability by the local market or not. Is our service meeting the expectation of our
buyer and seller against the demand? If we can create a minimum level of acceptance in the mind
of supplier and buyer then we will run our business permanently.
P a g e | 11

Chapter Five: Marketing Plan

5. Marketing Strategy:

The marketing strategy is the core of the main strategy:

• Emphasize high value, and quality services to the suppliers and Buyers.
• Build a relationship oriented business.
• Focus on municipalities, manufacturers, landscapers, and the federal government as key
initial markets.

5.1 STP Analysis:

Segmentation, Targeting, and positing are the full from of STP. In our business plan, STP
analysis plays an important role

5.1.1 Segmentation: Segmentation means dividing a board target market into subsets markets
.As our business concept is developed based on collecting e-waste form users and then sell it to
the authorized seller. So our segmentation depends on the supplier of e-waste. In our business
plan we have decided that we will collect e-waste from three different groups. So we have
divided the whole market into three segments

The market can be segmented into three distinct groups:

• Students: These are people currently in academia and are accustomed to fast connections
and are willing to sell their used electronic products at a fair price. This are the people
who frequently update their electronic goods based on updated demand and they are
heavy users of the Internet as our business is based on e-commerce platform so they will
be on top of priority table.

• Professionals: These group of people conducts a fair amount of business over the
Internet, whether banking, e-commerce, or communications as a result they are consider
one of the primary supplier of e-waste
P a g e | 12

• Corporations: Large corporations who have multiple set up offices based on different
location within Dhaka city and who are required to use electronic goods to conduct their
daily operations will be one of our top suppliers.

5.1.2 Targeting: Our business is a partnership business with the theme to become a Green
Bangladesh, so we are targeting two types business to sell our e-waste they are
• Government authorized e-waste recycler who have the license to recycle e-waste in
Bangladesh
• International recycling companies.

5.1.3 Positioning:

Recycle Bin main focus in marketing will be to increase supplier awareness in the surrounding
community about the environmental issue regarding e-waste. How dumping e-waste can affect
our health, so that supplier are willing to sell their used products to us. We will straight all of our
plans and programs toward the goal of explaining who we are and what we are all about. We will
purchase e-waste at a fair price and also sell it to the authorized seller at a good price to keep the
business a profitable one. We will also try to keep our standards high, and execute the concept so
that “Green Bangladesh” will be our main marketing force.

5.2 Marketing Mix Analysis:

5.2.1 Product: The products that we will collect form our suppliers are listed below:

• Mobile Phones ,iPod etc

• TV, Fan, Oven
• AC
• Fridges
• Computer parts
• Printer
• Other electronic utility
P a g e | 13

5.2.2 Price: Our business concepts is based on buying form supplier and then sell it to authorized
recycler, so we will buy e-waste from supplier at a lower price and then sell it to the recycler at a
moderate price.

5.2.3 Place: We will collect e-waste from local market through our highly developed apps and
websites and then store it in our distribution storage centers based on Dhaka city. After collecting
we will sell our e-waste thorough the app and website or direct selling to all over the Bangladesh
where a government authorized recycle plant is situated as well as international recycle
companies by exporting.

5.2.4 Promotion:

• Publicity: We will send news releases to all of the major newspapers in Dhaka city.
Publication of news articles about Recycle Bin and effect on e-waste in our environment
will lend great credibility and be an excellent way to let all target markets know about
this new, innovative business and the solutions it provides for municipalities and users of
electronic goods. We will similarly seek publicity in the form of news stories from local
radio and television stations.
• Advertising: We will utilize direct mail and face-to-face promotional strategies to raise
awareness about the e-waste in the target markets. Newspaper advertising may also be
used. Radio and television ads are not certain; we will evaluate their effectiveness before
further implementation.
• Internet: We will have a content heavy website geared toward educating potential
customers about the benefits of selling e-waste to us. All literature, business cards, etc.
will include our website and e-mail address information.
• Alliances: We intend to form alliances with Recycle companies to buy our product and
use it in their recycle plant to make the society free from harmful effect on e-waste.

5.3 Sales Strategy:

After collecting e-waste from our target supplier, we will sell it to the local authorized recycle
companies. Either by direct selling or also the buyer can purchase through our app. We also
focus on exporting our e-waste globally where the demand for e-waste exists.
P a g e | 14

Chapter Six: Competitor Analysis

As we are new in the business it’s very important to know about our competitors .Because
competitor can play a big role in our business operations.

6.1 Existing competitors:

Core: As we are not alone as a supplier of e-waste to the recycle companies as raw materials
there are a many unauthorized local shops in our country that are supplying e-waste to the
recycle companies. Faisal Enterprise is one of them who currently supply all kinds of waste
items to the recycle companies so in case of business to business they are our core competitors.
But as an e-commerce platform we have fast mover advantages in this business. No other waste
collecting companies has e-commerce platform in Bangladesh.

Significant: Consider to our collecting e-waste. Big recycling company like Azizu recycle
company might be our significant competitors because they can purchase e-waste directly from
supplier.

Indirect: Big electronic manufacturing companies like Walton who can buy e-waste from
supplier directly and use it in their production system so they might be our indirect competitor.

6.2 Potential competitors:

As we come out with a unique concept and there are less legal issues to start online based waste
collecting in our country so it is possible to have competitors in a short time. They can come
easily in the market with some new ideas which can banish us from the market by. Other
competitors can also come with our concept. They can provide more facilities then us.
P a g e | 15

Chapter Seven: Financial Plan

7.1 Financial Overview:

The company will start operations as a partnership company, where there will be 4 partners. The
financing of the company will come from both equity financing and also debt-financing. Each of
the partners will contribute Tk. 1000000. An additional loan of tk. 300, 0000 would be taken.
This loan will be paid off in 5 years. Since we are a new company, we cannot rely on our
goodwill to easily get a loan. Also, we cannot offer any collateral, since we are a new company.
AS a result, the loan we will get will have a higher interest rate, than normal.

7.2 Assumptions:

There have been several assumptions that have been made, for the convenience of budgeting and
constructing the financial statements.

• Tax rate is 30%

• Depreciation would be calculated using the straight line method
• We have used percent of sales method while calculating some of the expenses.
• No credit sales will be allowed

Below is the financial management plan, where the pro forma income statement, balance sheet
and cash flow statements have been constructed. This would help us see whether the venture
would be a profitable one or not.

7.3 Projected Income Statement:

In order to create the pro forma income statement, the first task is to forecast the sales. This was
done using market research and industry analysis, and it was found that there is fair demand as
the industry is in growth stage. The expenses include salary & wages expenses, rent, and
depreciation. There are other expenses also. Utilities include all the costs related to water, gas,
electricity, and so on. One irregular item we have in the first year is that of a large advertising
expense. Since we are new, we will start with a huge campaign, using lots of billboards, as well
P a g e | 16

as TVC ads. Although, in this industry, the weight associated for advertising is very low, they are
hardly a key success factor, still it is imperative we do it. Finally at the end we have shown the
amount of net profit that will be ploughed back into the company for further growth, in the
following years.

7.4 Projected Balance Sheet:

The projected balance sheet for first year gives a very positive feedback. First year estimated
balance sheet indicates that, our net asset, the total worth, will grow over the next following
years at a very satisfactory rate. Although we are left with a large amount of cash. But this puts
us in a very good liquidity position. We will be able to deal with situations where there will be
cash needed. This is good, since we do not have several other liquid assets. Inventory is the least
liquid asset of all, and if we look at the amount of inventory in hand each year, it is a fairly low
amount. We will try to have efficient inventory management, since we do not have enough
space, we cannot stock up on large inventory, as this also increase warehousing costs and so on.
We have some investment in money market also. Each year, we assume that, our assets will
grow, in the form of increased cash at hand. This increase in assets is financed by the retained
earnings. Depreciation of all the assets of the company is calculated using straight-line method
over the life of the asset.

Chapter Eight: Conclusion

8.1 Conclusion:

While the problem of e-waste and the current waste management practices were widely
discussed, there was an urgent need to conduct in-depth studies in Bangladesh. Our business will
help the society form the threat of e-waste. Our plan is developed on creating awareness among
the users of electronic goods about the bad effect of e-waste so that they can aware of the danger
and motivate them to sell their used products to us while we accomplish our business goal. If we
continued to be succeed we will introduced a waste-collector vending machine throughout Dhaka
city.
