Worksheet 2

Q1:- Fill the following table:-

Ind. Dep.
DE Type Order Linear Degree
Var. Var.
(𝒙 + 𝒚)𝟐 𝒚′ + 𝒆𝒙 𝒚 = 𝟑𝒙^𝟐
(𝑾𝒕𝒙𝒕 )𝟐 + 𝟐𝒕 𝑾 = 𝑾𝒙𝒙
(𝒚′′′ )𝟑 + 𝐬𝐢𝐧(𝒚) (𝒚′ )𝟒 = 𝐜𝐨𝐭⁡(𝒙)𝒚
Q2:- Construct the differential equations of the following general solutions :-
1) 𝑦 = 𝑐1 𝑒 −𝑥 + 𝑐2 𝑒 2𝑥
2) 𝑦 = 𝑐𝑥 2 − 𝑥
3) 𝑦 = 𝑐1 𝑒 𝑥 𝑐𝑜𝑠(3𝑥 + 𝑐2 )
4) 𝑦 = 𝑐1 tan(𝑥 ) + 𝑐2 sec(𝑥 )
Q3:- Construct the following mathematical models :-
1) A spherical raindrop evaporates at a rate proportional to its surface area. Write
a differential equation for the volume of the raindrop as a function of time.
2) Write a differential equation for the velocity of a falling object of mass 𝑚 if
the magnitude of the drag force is proportional to the square of the velocity
and its direction is opposite to that of the velocity.
3) A boy standing at point 𝐵 on a dock holds a rope of length 𝑙 attached to a boat
at point A. As the boy walks along the dock, holding the rope taut, the boat
moves along a curve called a tractrix. The segment from a point P on the
curve to the x-axis along the tangent line has constant length 𝑙. Write the
differential equation describing this curve.
