Instructions for the Teacher
Please note that different methods work for
different teachers, it all depends on your level of
noise tolerance and program expectations. There is
no one “right way” to manage centers, you must
choose what is best for you, your students, and
your program.

When deciding which center management method to

use, first you must take into consideration your
situation:

• Do you have a full-time assistant in the

classroom?
• How many students do you have?
• How many centers do you have?
• What ages are the children you teach?
• What are your expectations during centers?
• What do you consider an acceptable noise level? Is
this expectation appropriate for the age of the
children you teach?
• Do you teach in a full or half-day program?

Instructions for the Teacher
There are several different ways these posters can
be used. Please read the instructions carefully to
determine which of these methods will work best
for you and your students.

Option C

Option A
Option A allows for three students per center. This
option works well with smaller classes.

First, print the center rotation signs of your choice

on cardstock and laminate for durability. Some
centers have more than one image to allow you to
choose the posters that best meets your needs
and those of your students.

Then, type your student’s names on the cards, print

on cardstock, laminate, and cut out.

Next, add a piece of sticky Velcro to the back of

each name card and attach the corresponding dot
to the bottom of sign. OR print the name cards on
Avery magnetic paper and place the signs on metal
cookie sheets from the dollar store. Now the name

cards can be moved around easily from sign to sign.

Option A: How Does it Work?
Option A: How Does it Work?
Start by creating a map of your classroom. You can use a
free program like Scholastic or Lakeshore to create your
map.

Next, draw one line from the top to the bottom of your
map in the middle, and another from left to right across
the middle. Then, assign one color to each of the
quadrants on your map – red, yellow, green, or blue.

Now, print the center rotation signs in the correct colors

for each of your centers. Laminate and place the signs in
each center area.

Then, group your students into 4 different color groups

and create name cards for each group.

Each day, each color group of students is assigned a

different color quadrant in the classroom. For example,
“Today, the blue group will visit the yellow centers.”

Students in each group can freely choose among the

centers located in their color quadrant. They can clearly
see the colors on the charts and name cards.
