    Hi, I am Bala Nagendra Prasad. Anyone who speaks the language can teach the language?

    I believe that one who is proficient in a language can teach a language. One must be motivated
    and passionate towards teacng. It is your desire that makes you a good teacher. Motivation and
    mentality are much more important than a university degree when it comes to teachung. We
    have to exclude criminals and lowcultured metallly sick people are to be excluded from this list.

    From my experience, I took a 30 day Tamil(south indian language) learning course. The
    instructor was pouring in lot of information, but of no use to me. Then I met a friend who is from
    Tamil Nadu. His mother tongue is Tamil. He was not a teacher. He taught me Tamil way better
    than my Tamil instructor. A young inexperienced man with no degree taught me a new language.
    But I we know content and techniques are required for a teacher to present things in an
    understandable way. My Tamil instructor has content but no technique. He lacked proper
    teaching tools and was only able to provide me a half-baked cake.

    All said and done, command over language gives a teacher edge over others. This is the
    content. But sometimes great amount of knowledge of a language may not be necessary to help
    someone learn that language. A mother is a great analogy in this respect. With no proper training
    or a degree, she is able to teach us our mother tongue. It is done at i+1 level.

    At a beginner level such as primary school level, we need someone to kindle the flame, to
    support and motivate a kid, and help him or her in the journey of learning a language. A teacher
    with no better content can do this job. But at an advance level, we need someone with content
    and proper tools, who can deliver the things in proper fashion and pace. A medical practitioner
    can treat a fever but not a heart disease. You need a cardiologist. So, in my opinion, anyone who
    speaks a language can teach that language at a beginner level. And I believe, at advanced level,
    a language teacher should be a professional with proper training and teaching techniques and
    methods.
