Assignment NO – 2

Problem - 1
Design a section by Kennedy’s theory, given B/D = 5.7, S = 1/5000 and N =
0.0225. Also determine the discharge carried by the channel.
Problem - 2
Design an irrigation channel for the following data using Kennedy’s theory:
Full Supply Discharge (F.S.Q) = 14.16 cumec
Slope, S = 1/5000
Kutter’s rugosity coefficient, N = 0.0225
Critical velocity ratio, m =1
Side slope, z = ½

Problem - 3
Design an irrigation channel with the following data:
Discharge of the canal = 24 cumec
Permissible mean velocity = 0.80 m/sec.
Bed slope = 1 in 5000
Side slope = 1:1
Chezy’s constant, C = 44

Problem – 4
Design an irrigation channel with the following data:
Full supply discharge = 6 cumec
Rugosity coefficient (n) = 0.0225
C.V.R (m) = 1 Bed slope = 1 in 5000
assume other reasonable data for the design

Problem – 5
Design an irrigation channel with the following data:
Full supply discharge = 10 cumec
Mean diameter of silt particles = 0.33 mm
Side slope = ½:1
Find also the bed slope of the channel
Problem – 6
Find the hydraulic gradient and the head at point D of the following structure
for Static condition. The water percolates at A and exits at B. Also, find the bed
thickness at D and compare it with the bed value given in the problem.
Using Blight Creep theory
