ZAP-70 UPGRADE INSTRUCTION

Introduction

This instruction describes the steps necessary to convert a P Q - 2 0 0 0 or P Q - C T system


currently running 4.2 or higher series software to Z A P - 7 0 or a P Q S s y s t e m currently
running 1.0 series or higher software to Z A P - 7 0 . Kit variations c o v e r e d by this instruction
include:

179740 ( P Q - C T , p r e - X A P upgrade, no Z A P to Z A P - 7 0 ) .
179740-A ( P Q - C T , p o s t - X A P upgrade, no Z A P to Z A P - 7 0 ) .

Prerequisites

1. Q P R O I I has been previously installed or is installed at the time of this upgrade.


2. A D S a n d A R D A S upgrades must be installed ( P Q - 2 0 0 0 , P Q - C T ) .
3. All air flow sensors should be functional.
4. T h e G P U Board must be a 5 1 2 K B b o a r d (P/N 1 7 4 3 6 3 or P/N 174439). For system
S/N 4 1 2 4 and system S/N 4 1 2 2 and below a n e w board m a y be required if Z A P - 1 6
is not installed. If a 2 5 6 K B G P U (P/N 171796) is installed or supplied with this kit,
contact Service Engineering ( P Q - 2 0 0 0 , P Q - C T ) .
5. T h e updated P M D C (P/N 171943-A or P/N 177821) must have been installed.

Microcontroller as per the appropriate Upgrade Kit listed in a a n d

2. R e m o v e the console front cover. R e m o v e o n e airflow strip to allow installation of the


X A P board(s).

3. R e m o v e one of the array processor boards f r o m the c o n s o l e a n d replace it with a


new X A P board (P/N 177390). Slots d e s i g n a t e d for array processor boards are 04,
0 5 , 17 and 18.

4. Repeat this procedure for each of the remaining AP b o a r d s in the s y s t e m .

5. If applicable, install the remaining X A P board in the slot w h e r e the airflow strip w a s
removed.

6. P a c k a g e the AP boards in the X A P shipping boxes, attach the shipping label a n d


mail the p a c k a g e back to Picker.

EXPANSION BOARD INSTALLATION ( P Q - C T S y s t e m s only)

For P Q - C T s c a n n e r s without Z A P - 1 6 , an additional BP expansion board (P/N 174227) is


required to a c c o m m o d a t e spiral scanning.

1. Ensure p o w e r is removed from the s y s t e m .

2. R e m o v e the BP expansion board from its shipping box a n d install into the card cage
next to t h e existing BP Expansion board.

NOTE

T h e BP Expansion boards must be located next to o n e


another in the card cage. Both BP Expansion boards must be
next to the BackProjector board a n d all three boards must be
in slots 1 0 , 1 1 a n d 12 or 1 1 , 12 a n d 13 on the left side of the
card cage. S o m e shifting of other boards may be necessary.

3. Power up the s y s t e m . Run site_cnf. Verify X A P and BP Expansion boards are


enabled, if not, enable t h e m a n d save the configuration.

VIM B O A R D INSTALLATION

Introduction

For P Q - 2 0 0 0 a n d PQ-CT, the new 2 5 6 M B V I M board must be installed.

1. Ensure p o w e r is removed from the s y s t e m .

2. R e m o v e the cover f r o m the console a n d locate the M P M in the L O W E R S L O T (slot


09).

CIRCUIT BOARDS.

3. If s y s t e m already has Z A P - 1 6 (2 M P M s . ) : R e m o v e the M P M that is located in the


L O W E R S L O T (slot 0 9 ) . If n o n - Z A P s y s t e m : Install V I M in slot 09 a n d the M P M in
slot 19.

4. R e m o v e the V I M board (P/N 177875-B) f r o m its p a c k a g e . Ensure that pins 1 a n d


2 of J 3 4 are j u m p e r e d . This enables the reset button on the b o a r d . S e e Figure 1.
Install the V I M w h e r e the M P M w a s r e m o v e d . S e n d the old M P M board back to
Picker in the V I M shipping p a c k a g e using the provided shipping label.

Introduction

For P Q S systems with no Z A P , a 128 M P M (P/N 177997) is required to a c c o m o d a t e


spiral scanning.

1. Ensure power is removed from the s y s t e m .

2. R e m o v e the cover from the console a n d locate the L O W E R M P M S L O T (slot 09).

NOTE

Slot 09 starts at the right side a n d counts d o w n to slot 0 0 .


T h e next slot is 19 a n d c o u n t s d o w n to slot 10 at the left side.

3. R e m o v e the 128 MB M e s s a g e Passing M e m o r y (P/N 177997) from its p a c k a g e a n d


install it in slot 09, pressing firmly until it is completely seated. Tighten the t w o
captive mounting screws at the top a n d bottom of the P C B . S e e figure 2.

4. Power up the s y s t e m . Run site_cnf. Verify that the M P M board is enabled; if not,
enable it a n d save the configuration.

HARD DISK DRIVE I N S T A L L A T I O N :

A 1.0 GB HP or Fujitsu hard drive (PQS) or 2.0 GB HP hard drive (PQ-2000, PQ-CT)
m a y be installed in the Operator's Console as a v o l u m e disk.

1.0GB, 2 . 0 G B H a r d D r i v e I n s t a l l a t i o n

1. Ensure p o w e r is r e m o v e d f r o m the s y s t e m . R e m o v e the front cover from the


Operator's Console. R e m o v e the drive from the shipping package.

2. Attach the brackets to the hard drive. S e e Figures 3 or 4.

3. Ensure that the brackets will fit easily into the console frame. T h e drive's rear
connector's should face t o w a r d the front of the console. S e e Figure 2. Do not
m o u n t the drive in the console at this time.

4. Ensure the S C S I T e r m i n a t o r Resistor (jumper for 1 GB and 2 GB HP) is r e m o v e d

5. Locate an o p e n (unused) p o w e r connector a n d associated ground connector from


the wiring harness. Cabling from the factory is well tied back, and removal of s o m e
tie w r a p s m a y be necessary. Plug the power connector into the back of the hard
drive a n d attach the g r o u n d cable.

6. Insert the drive into the console above the card rack, aligning the bracket e n d s into
the slots t o w a r d the rear of the console. Install the front t w o retaining screws.

NOTE

T h e s a m e j u m p e r configuration is used for both the 1 and 2 GB


H P S C S I Hard Drives.

T h e hard drive is to be used as a v o l u m e drive a n d therefore must


be installed at S C S I address 4.

Introduction

T h e gantry blowers will be modified to operate continuously on P Q - 2 0 0 0 a n d P Q - C T .

Procedure

1. Ensure power is r e m o v e d from the system.

2. Lift the gull wing at the rear of the gantry a n d r e m o v e the lower gantry cover.

3. Loosen the two captive screws and remove the gantry AC control cover.
4. C h a n g e blower operation to continuous high by removing the tow larger black blower
wires f r o m terminal #2 and connect t h e m to terminal #1 of the S S R 3 1 3 relay. T h i s
will leave the single, smaller black wire (card rack fans) alone on terminal # 2 . S e e
Figure 5.

5. R e a s s e m b l e the system a n d verify that the blowers operate continuously at high


s p e e d , by performing a scan.

Introduction

T h e s e instructions describe the steps n e c e s s a r y to upgrade a PQ-2000 or PQ 5 0 0 0


system to Z A P 100 functionality. T h e instructions cover non-ZAP PQ-2000 s y s t e m s (both
pre a n d post XAP), ZAP-16 a n d ZAP-70 PQ-2000 or P Q 5 0 0 0 systems, a n d ZAP-70
PQ 2000S systems. Five kit variations:

179685: PQ-2000, non-ZAP, pre X A P to ZAP-100.


179685-A: PQ-2000, non-ZAP, post X A P to ZAP-100.
179685-B: PQ-2000/5000, ZAP-70 to ZAP-100.
179685-C: PQ-2000, ZAP-16 to ZAP-100.

Prerequisites

1. QPROII has been installed prior to installing this kit.


2. Rhino or Mark III Х-Ray tube is installed.
3. A D S and A R D A S u p g r a d e s must be installed (PQ-2000).
4. All air flow s e n s o r s should be functional.
5. The G P U Board must be a 5 1 2 K B b o a r d (P/N 1 7 4 3 6 3 or P/N 174439). For system
S/N 4 1 2 4 a n d s y s t e m S/N 4 1 2 2 a n d below a new board may be required if ZAP-16
is not installed. If a 2 5 6 K B G P U (P/N 171796) is installed or supplied with the kit,
contact Service Engineering (PQ-2000, PQ-CT).
6. The updated P M D C (P/N 171943-A or P/N 177821) must have been installed.

2 5 6 M B V I M board (PQ 2 0 0 0 S ) must be installed.

For systems upgrading from a 2 5 6 M B V I M (ZAP-70 for


example) see page 7 for the 1 2 8 M B daughterboard
installation to the existing V I M board.

2. Locate the old display board a n d remove the cables from the board. R e m o v e the
board f r o m the console. R e m o v e both boards if R D S is installed.

3. Install the n e w 1 K + display board (both if RDS) into the slot w h e r e the old display
board w a s . Attach the cables.

4. Return the old display board to Picker International using the enclosed shipping
labels.

2. R e m o v e the console front cover. R e m o v e one airflow strip to allow installation of the
X A P board(s).

3. R e m o v e one of the array processor boards from the console a n d replace it with a
new X A P board (P/N 177390).

4. Repeat this procedure for each of the remaining AP boards in the s y s t e m .

5. If applicable, install the remaining X A P board in the slot w h e r e the airflow strip w a s
removed.

6. Package the AP boards in the X A P shipping boxes, attach the shipping label a n d
mail the p a c k a g e back to Picker.

H A R D D I S K D R I V E I N S T A L L A T I O N - 2.05 G B (3.5" HP)

A 2.05 GB hard drive is included if the s y s t e m is not currently running Z A P - 1 6 or Z A P - 7 0 .


Do not m a k e this drive the s y s t e m drive. This drive is intended to be used as the V o l u m e
drive (Spiral Disk) and should be j u m p e r e d at SCSI ID 4.

Skip this section if the system is currently running ZAP-16 or ZAP-70.

2.0GB Hard Drive Installation

1. Ensure p o w e r is r e m o v e d f r o m the system. R e m o v e the front c o v e r from the


Operator's Console. R e m o v e the drive from the shipping package.

2. Attach the brackets to the hard drive. See Figure 3.

3. Ensure that the brackets will fit easily into the console f r a m e . T h e drive's rear
connector's should face toward the front of the console. S e e Figure 3. Do not
mount the drive in the console at this time.

4. Ensure the S C S I T e r m i n a t o r Resistor (jumper for 2 GB HP) is r e m o v e d from the


drive. See Table 1 a n d Figure 3 for disk drive configuration.

5. Locate an o p e n (unused) p o w e r connector a n d associated g r o u n d connector f r o m


the wiring harness. Cabling from the factory is well tied back, a n d removal of s o m e
tie w r a p s m a y be necessary. Plug the power connector into the back of the hard
drive and attach the ground cable.

6. Insert the drive into the console above the card rack, aligning the bracket e n d s into
the slots t o w a r d the rear of the console. Install the front two retaining screws.

G A N T R Y B L O W E R M O D I F I C A T I O N - (For pre Z A P - 1 6 systems)

Introduction

T h e gantry blowers will be modified to operate continuously ( P Q - 2 0 0 0 only).

Procedure

1. Ensure power is r e m o v e d from the s y s t e m .

2. Lift the gull wing at the rear of the gantry a n d remove the lower gantry cover.

3. Loosen the t w o captive s c r e w s a n d remove the gantry AC control cover.


4. C h a n g e blower operation to c o n t i n u o u s high by removing the t o w larger black blower
wires from terminal #2 a n d c o n n e c t t h e m to terminal #1 of the S S R 3 1 3 relay. This
will leave the single, smaller black wire (card rack fans) alone on terminal # 2 . See
Figure 4.

5. R e a s s e m b l e the s y s t e m a n d verify that the blowers operate continuously at high


s p e e d , by performing a s c a n .
