Read the two scenarios and answer the question that follows.

1. Ms. Amnell is a language arts teacher, and when she is teaching creative writing to her students,
she finds they sometimes have a hard time thinking of original ideas. To help them along, she
brings in short clips from films the students have probably never seen. Sometimes the clip is of a
brief conversation between two people, sometimes it is an explosion or an alien ship landing on
earth . All clips are humorous in some way . They must use the clip as the beginning of a
narrative piece. She finds that when they are given a beginning, especially a funny beginning
they wouldn't have thought on their own , student show a lot of imagination.

Determine what strategy in addressing emotions is used by Ms. Amnell.

I think the major strategy Ms. Amnell used in this situation is the technique that targets
emotions. She did this by promoting positive emotion using Humor in the form of short clips
that the student finds humorous. And by presenting unusual information the students showed a
lot of imagination.

2. Ms. Lane’s science class has been studying the evolution of man’s understanding of dinosaurs.
They have been learning about the discoveries of more and more species, how closely dinosaurs
were related to birds, and, just recently, a way to tell the color of the fur or feathers of a
dinosaur. She announces, “For our final exam on this topic, each of you will provide an in-depth
look at how our thinking of a particular dinosaur has changed.” She gives them some options in
terms of how they want to deliver their presentations. They can (A) write an essay , (B) give an
oral report, (C) conduct an interview with an expert on the topic, or (D) present a debate on the
topic of whether or not our renderings of this species are now correct.

How did Ms. Lane incorporate the concept of IMPORTANCE in this lesson?

Ms. Lane incorporated the concept of importance in the lesson by encouraging application of
knowledge, as evidenced by the options she gave on how the students will deliver their final
exam. Ms. Lane gave the students options whether they will write an essay, oral report,
interviewing an expert or presenting a debate about the topic which will make them further see
the value of the knowledge they acquired.
