Disease is a change from the condition of good health.

In disease, the
normal structure or function of the body is harmed or weakened. Disease is
often called weakness or illness.
A disease may last a brief time or a long time. It may be mild or
severe. Some diseases such as the common cold may go away after a few
days without any treatment. Other diseases require medical treatment to
cure them. Still other diseases may require a lifetime of medical supervision
to manage them.
Favourable standards of living help promote health. Also the body
itself has defences against disease. But now and then the defences give
way and illness occurs. Disease germs may break through the defences.
Parts of the body may begin to function poorly. Tissues in the body may
grow in uncontrolled ways. Something may go wrong with certain chemical
reactions in the body.
There are diseases that are transmitted from person to person by
airborne droplets: chicken pox, influenza, swine. there are diseases that
arise from disorders of the processes in the body: ulcer, diphtheria,
diarrhea, allergy. There are various types of allergy such as an allergy to
plants, smells, on medicines. The person’s organism may react in different
ways. The person’s eyes get swollen and reddish and began to itch,
sometimes they are watery. Sometimes the person can’t get rid of fits of
sneezing. The skin may cover with rash consisting of closely set red spots
or pimples. Influenza is the most common communicable disease. If a
person has caught a bad cold, he is running a high temperature, he is now
cold and now hot. He has a bad cold in the head, his nose is running and
clogged up. He has a sore throat, it is hard to breathe and it hurts to
swallow. He is suffering from severe headache. The head is swimming and
everything reels before eyes. He is constantly sneezing and can’t get rid of
a bad cough. Chickenpox is a very contagious infection caused by virus. It
mainly affects kids, but adults can get it, too. The sign of chickenpox is
itchy skin rash with red blisters. Over the course of several waeks, the
blisters pop.
If you wish to improve your health, you can take a few small steps to
change your lifestyle so that you could develop habits that could keep you
on the right track. There are many simple ways to work to improve your
health. The most effective ways are
1. Get an hour more of sleep per day: Good sleep helps your body
function better. If you aren’t getting 7-9 hours of sleep, try to add an
hour of sleep to your routine. Depending on your age, you will need
to decide on quantity versus quality when it comes to sleep.
2. Set out some easy-to-eat fruit: I struggle because I have a sweet
tooth. One thing that has helped me cut back on candy is to have
grapes, dried mangoes, prunes, clementines (fast and easy to peel)
and other sweet fruits readily available.
3. Slow down at mealtime: Give your body time to register that it is
consuming food and getting full. This way, you will consume fewer
calories, and possibly enjoy your food more. Not to mention you can
enjoy extra time with your family.
There are many doctors. There are doctors of narrow specialties -
cardiologist, cosmetologist, dentist, surgeon, psychiatrist, ophthalmologist.
There are general practitioners, a pediatrician and a therapist.
Therapeutist is the first doctor people address they have any kind of health
problems. The therapeutist either treats the disease himself ( as a matter of
fact the catarrhal diseases such as influenza, quinsy, bronchitis,
pneumonia) or directs him to undergo a thorough examination and then
with the results of examination he sends the patient to the doctor who
specialized in treating of that very kind of disease. Cardiologist is
indispensable when people have heart troubles including the murmur of the
heart and heart attack. His patients usually complain of the sharp pain or
continuous dull ache in the left side of the chest. They feel slack and get
short of breath after a physical strain or a long distance covered on foot.
Surgeon is a doctor who will help you if you have run and neglected a
splinter and an abscess has already formed. He deals with sprains of the
chords, dislocation of the joints and fractures of the bones.
If we caught a cold, feel a splitting headache, have a clogged nose,
cough, are running a high temperature, we must go to the policlinic. First,
we come to the registry. The registry clerk on duty asks our name, address,
age and occupation. He writes out some slips because several specialists
will check up our kidneys, liver, stomach, eyesight, hearing. The others will
make our blood analysis, take our blood pressure and X-ray us.
When I entered the ward? doctor asked me to strip to the waist. He
examined my lungs and throat, took my pulse and temperature, measured
my blood pressure. Finally he said that it was a light case of flu and told me
have complete rest. He wrote a prescription for some gargle and cough
medicine. He also gave me some sulfa pills, a slip for X-Ray and blood
examination. He recommended to apply glass-cups and mustard plasters. I
followed all the doctor's instructions and very soon I felt much better. I fully
recovered in ten days and resumed my studies.
