Assignment # 01: Constitution of Pakistan


The Constitution of Pakistan 1973 is a document of rights and guarantees to the citizens of Pakistan who
come under this social contract. It is the protection of the rights of the people of Pakistan. The
federation and its constituent parts run the affairs of this country under this constitution. It provides
guarantees to the Muslims to live their lives according to the fundamentals of Islam and also an
assurance to the minorities regarding the protection of their fundamental rights. In a nut shell, it is an
organic document running the state according to the dynamic requirements of a modern natn state.

i) What Article / Provision / Portion of the Constitution has impressed you the most and why?

Article 3: Elimination of Exploitation

The state shall ensure the elimination of all forms of exploitation and the gradual fulfilment of the
fundamental principles, from each according to his ability to each according to his work.

point of view?

Article 19 Freedom of speech

In the Article 19 Freedom of Speech, the phrases "reasonable restrictions" is ambiguous and prone to
arbitrary interpretation therefore these restrictions may be clearly defined instead of the keeping the
term ambiguous. Moreover, the contempt of court may also be removed from this article as the people
should have the right to speak about the various decision of the court more critically so as to evolve into
a better society lead by consensus of opinions learnt at least from the not so good judicial decisions.

Article 19: "Every citizen shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression, and there shall be
freedom of the press, subject to any reasonable restrictions imposed by law in the interest of the glory of
Islam or the integrity, security or defence of Pakistan or any part thereof, friendly relations with foreign
States, public order, decency or morality, or in relation to contempt of court, 1[commission of] or
incitement to an offence."
