CENRO GENERAL SANTOS CITY SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTS

SIMULTANEOUS COASTAL CLEAN-UP ACTIVITY

The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)

General Santos City has successfully conducted the Simultaneous Coastal Clean-up
Activity last August 30, 2019 as part of the strengthening of the City Coastal Law
Enforcement Team (CCLET), together with the assistance and support of partner
Local Government Units (LGUs) and other agencies.

Various kinds of trash have been collected during the activity wherein the
participants involved are the members of the coastal barangays in General Santos
City, namely Brgy. Buayan, Brgy. Bula, Brgy. Dadiangas South, Brgy. Dadiangas
West, Brgy. Calumpang, Brgy. Bawing, and Brgy. Tambler. Agencies and
organizations within the city also extended their support and assistance including the
City ENRO, Waste Management Office (WMO), Coca-Cola, Joint Task Force (JTF)
Gensan, Maritime, and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

The activity aims to highlight one of the ten (10) point agenda of the DENR
Secretary, Roy Cimatu, which is Solid Waste Management, and to promote a healthy
environment especially within the coastal barangays of the city. Through continuous
monitoring and similar activities, the agency hopes to raise the level of awareness of
the community within these coastal areas on the effects of trash in our seawater and
marine ecosystem, as well as to involve them in our fight against pollution. The result
of the participants’ collective effort will certainly contribute to the common intent of
the city to ensure the cleanliness of our coastal areas and promote the protection of
our marine mammals from debris and trash. (MJAZulita-CENROGSC)
